An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings

Nashville Tea Party!

15 April 2009, 5:36 pm. 28 Comments. Filed under 1st Amendment, Taxes.

Updates: The Capital Police put the number closer to OUR estimations…..TEN THOUSAND!  Also, check down at the bottom for other links I’ll be adding as I find them.  If I haven’t added you yet, put your link in the comments, and I’ll add it, K?

From the little coverage I’ve seen from the local Nashville media, the lies continue.  While the local rag has the numbers around 2500, the idjit box said a few hundred.  Well, in reality, it was closer to between 7500 and 10,000.

The Mr and I headed to Legislative Plaza around 10:30. Since parking seriously sucks in downtown Nashville, we took a cab over, and was greeted by a bus full of folks who evidently didn’t much care for the idea of trying to find a place to park as well.

Since the Party wasn’t suppose to start until noon, we had plenty of time to look for a few friends, say howdy, sign a petition and a stood in line to sign a VERY long state’s sovereighnty declaration.

I’m not going to go into everything the speakers said.  If you are as pissed off as we are, and have been paying attention, you’ll know the topic of conversation.  I’m tired, so, I’m just going post some pictures.

The Mr and bud, Bryan:

While folks were still gathering before:

After the beginning, I realized…..I’m short!  It was difficult to move around, so I didn’t try a whole lot, but these are pretty much from my view where the Mr and I were standing.  Or, in my case, sitting on my cane chair a bit.  Hey, I’m old!  And falling apart!  I needed that sucker today.

I thought this was a pretty cool hat.

A few of the excellent signs:

And my favorite!

term-limits Yep!  TERM LIMITS!  Enough with the career politicians!

A couple of the many folks who were there:

patriotpipes

We were getting really hungry, and the crowd was starting to break up.  While we were worming our way out, we noticed a couple of young women who were yelling nonsense, holding up an Obama t-shirt.  A gentleman kept holding his “Don’t Tread On Me” flag, and one of the women kept trying to yank it out of his hands.  Nice.

After lunch, we wandered back over to the Plaza and there were still people milling around, and cars honking their horns.  One thing you’ll NEVER see after a lefty rally, or even the current president’s inauguration?  A cleaned up area!

after-clean

Some other folks were there who have posts up, and as I come across them, I’ll link them here.  If you have a post, and want to add it here, let me know in the comments.

Great pictures and I just love the homemade signs. People are so creative. Old, young, white, black, Democrat, Republican, Independent, …

Orderly, polite, clean, and ready to wipe the slate clean and start over with new politicians that will listen to us.

  2. Serr8d. 15 April 2009, 8:30 pm

Hey, I missed you! We got there a bit late (around 1 or so) but had a great time. I’ll have to look through my photos to see if you and hubby show up in any of ‘em. Did you carry a sign?

(I was the tall guy with the big lens… )

They are, aren’t they Debbie. I was so impressed by all the variety.

Dadburnit Serr8d! I think I damn near slammed into you! I only remember one very tall guy with a mega lens. Of course, everyone is tall to me, so you might be 5’8″. LOL No, we didn’t have any signs. Wanted to, but the Mr didn’t wanna carry ‘em around afterward since we were having lunch with our friend. Had a hat on exactly the same as the Mr’s though…with teabags hanging off. :)

Fox 17 News at 9 stated there were at least 10,000 people in attendance.

  6. olbroad. 15 April 2009, 10:12 pm

Yeah, we finally heard a more accurate count at 10. Wonder if the Tennessean is going to fix that so called “live blog” they have. :?

  7. TexasFred. 15 April 2009, 10:54 pm

This has been a GREAT DAY for America, the gauntlet has been cast down, the iron is in the fire and that asshole in the Oval Office still hasn’t got a clue…

According to some sources, he has been isolated from ALL information concerning the Tea Parties and protests…

I guess next time we have to get LOUD… And damn do I know how to get real loud!!

I’ll link your post for Nashville coverage. My fingers are too tired and it has been a long time since 3:30 in the morning (the start of my day).

  15. Toni. 16 April 2009, 2:49 pm

Wow Kate, what a great round up. It was fun to see you yesterday and to meet the hubbie and friend. We were so tired after we finished the Franklin TP, I can’t imagine how Judson and all the other volunteer organizers must have felt by the end. Franklin’s TP was awesome and very crowded. I expect there were probably around 3k there. I did find another good sign that was very original – http://bearcreekledger.com/2009/04/16/hes-the-robbing-hoodlum/.

    @Samantha Yer welcome! :)

@BCR Dang it! I forgot you work evenings. :( It’s on the 24th, from 5 till 7 or so. I don’t suppose you have Friday nights off?

Well, thank you. And yes, it was a terrific day…all over the country, with a few exceptions of course. :?

    And yer welcome. :)

  25. Soapbox Jill. 22 April 2009, 4:19 pm

Great set of pics, and list of other sites with pics. Thanks!
I walked around in a partial daze in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, with a lump in my throat from being shoulder to shoulder with about 700 other patriots. The personalized messages of the signs were amazing and rich; homespun and elegant. I somehow managed to snap some pictures despite my unexpected emotional reaction to the event.
This has just got to be the beginning, it’s got to continue!

Love your no-nonsense voice and site.

  26. olbroad. 22 April 2009, 6:40 pm

Thank ya ma’am. I read the FdL Distorter’s take on y’all’s event. :? Reckon that paper has gone even farther down the tubes than they were before we left the area.
