Jack Kemp, Former Quarterback, Congressman and Vice-Presidential Nominee, Has Died

Jack Kemp, the ex-quarterback, congressman, one-time vice-presidential nominee and self-described “bleeding-heart conservative” died Saturday.

His spokeswoman Bona Park and longtime friend and former campaign adviser Edwin J. Feulner confirmed that Kemp died after a lengthy illness.

Kemp had announced in January 2009 that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He said he was undergoing tests but gave no other detail.

Kemp, a former quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, represented western New York for nine terms in Congress, leaving the House for an unsuccessful presidential bid in 1988.

Eight years later, after serving a term as President George H.W. Bush’s housing secretary, he made it onto the national ticket as Bob Dole’s running-mate.

I have been contemplating for some time along the same lines but never offered a comment.
I agree almost one hundred percent except on the term limits. It seem to me that most of our political troubles start with the politicians getting reelected. Once a politician gets elected he/she immediately starts campaigning for their next term. It seems they think of nothing else.
If we had some kind of term limits that would relieve them of getting reelected, maybe they would/could spend their time in office working for us. My thinking is more like one eight year term with a reasonable retirement. I mean a one term that would not require them to continually campaign, therefore that would eliminate the need to take so many bribes, kickbacks etc. I also agree that it would create a problem whereby they may be inclined to set back and not do anything for their constituents….. well that part wouldn’t be a change, would it. Maybe an easy recall would be in order.
I really like your idea. No doubt there would be a lot kinks to work out.
