Obama Tries to Restore Order on Gitmo, After Senate Blocks Closure Funds

President Obama is trying to keep Democratic unrest from derailing his plans to close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp after the Senate voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to yank money for shuttering the prison.

The president is delivering a speech Thursday meant to shed light on how the administration expects to transfer 240 detainees off the island by January 2010.

The address appears overdue, considering the resistance and mixed messages coming from top-ranking Democrats over the issue on Capitol Hill.

Having a “lofty” idea is just peachy……IF you have a way to implement the plan, sensibly. Well, B. Hussein may be a book learned fellow, but he ain’t just real bright.

Sen. Dan Inouye, D-Hawaii, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said the vote to strip the $80 million Obama had wanted should not be seen as a rebuke to the administration but a “wake up call.”

If it was me, I’d say exactly what it was….telling the Obummer he’s clueless, which he is.

“If you were to close Guantanamo and move these people somewhere in the United States, you could not duplicate what is available there,” said Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb. “I would suggest to you that they would receive worse treatment than they are receiving at Guantanamo.”

Let’s face it…no one has escaped from Gitmo. The ‘detainees’ there are unlikely to convert other inmates to their cause. They live better there than they did in their home country. These aren’t petty thieves. They weren’t caught selling pot on the corner. No, these are the people who have decided you and I must either convert to their religion, or die.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t want ANY of them coming to call in the U.S. If B. Hussein wants to close Gitmo, and no one else will take them in…..shoot ‘em! That’s right! I said SHOOT THEM! One bullet, right between the eyes. 240 bullets is a boatload cheaper than clothing, housing and feeding them day in and day out. And we wouldn’t have to buy them Koran’s or prayer rugs either! It also means that there would be NO chance of them ever getting free and vowing revenge for their years of detention.  They want to die as ‘martyrs” to their cause?  Grant their wish.  If ya don’t want to waste perfectly good bullets, wire a building with a LOT of C4…..they seem to like the idea of bodies being blown to smithereens.

Mr Obama, I just solved your problem for you.  Now, let’s move on the other really stupid things you’ve been up to, like destroying the economy, and turning this once great nation into your personal socialist experiment!

Notre Dame Holds First Alan Keyes Fundraiser

How about for next year’s graduation ceremony Notre Dame have an abortionist perform an abortion live on stage? They could have a partial-birth abortion for the advanced degrees.

According to liberals, the right to kill babies was enshrined by the Founding Fathers in our Constitution — and other constitutional rights are celebrated in public.

The right to bear arms is honored in 21-gun salutes, turkey shoots, Civil War re-enactments, firearms demonstrations and, occasionally, at Phil Spector’s house.

Just Cuz

20 May 2009, 2:32 pm. 5 Comments. Filed under Chuckles, Just Cuz.

Bill and Sam, two elderly friends, met in the park every day to feed the pigeons, watch the squirrels and discuss world problems.

One day Bill didn’t show up. Sam didn’t think much about it and figured maybe he had a cold or something. But after Bill hadn’t shown up for a week or so, Sam really got worried. However, since the only time they ever got together was at the park, Sam didn’t know where Bill lived, so he was unable to find out what had happened to him.

A month had passed, and Sam figured he had seen the last of Bill, but one day, Sam approached the park lo and behold–there sat Bill! Sam was very excited and happy to see him and told him so.

Then he said, ‘For crying out loud Bill, what in the world happened to you?’

Bill replied, ‘I have been in jail.’

‘Jail?’ cried Sam. ‘What in the world for?’

‘Well,’ Bill said, ‘you know that cute little blonde waitress at the coffee shop where I sometimes go?’

‘Yeah,’ said Sam, ‘I remember her. What about her?’

‘Well, one day she filed rape charges against me; and, at 89 years old, I was so proud that when I got into court – I plead ‘guilty’.  The damn judge gave me 30 days for perjury.’

Credibility Lost

20 May 2009, 8:15 am. 4 Comments. Filed under Congress, Dhimmicrats, Feckless Weasels, Opinion, Politics.

It’s not bad enough we have a POTUS who may, or may not be, Constitutionally holding the office, and evidently is either totally clueless how the economy works, or is so evil, he WANTS to destroy the country.  It’s not bad enough that his Veep pick is a major gaffe machine.   No, we also have a Speaker of the House who is a liar, working hard to cover her hind end, becoming a complete embarrassment, not only to the Democrats, but to women everywhere.

Pelosi’s chickens home to roost

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is engaged in the fight of her career. The embattled speaker has resorted to attacking the credibility of the CIA over the extent of their disclosure of enhanced interrogation tactics, even as her own credibility melts away. The truth of the matter, though, is that the situation in which Mrs. Pelosi finds herself is one of her own making, and just the latest in a series of irresponsible political moves.

2003 – Rep. Jane Harmon was the only member of the “sole member of the House to write a formal letter of protest to the White House” concerning ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’. Now, the queen is claiming to have endorsed the letter without formally doing so.

2004 – The 9/11 Commission recommended that “the majority party’s representation [on the House Intelligence Committee] should never exceed the minority’s representation by more than one.“  Instead, when Pelosi came into power, packed the “committee by a margin of 13-8 with Democrats“.  Let’s face facts here…..Democrats are not known for their strong stand on national security.

2006 – The queen passed over Harmon as the senior ranking member of the intelligence committee, first suggesting Alcee Hastings, the same guy who, “in 1989, after being acquitted in a criminal trial, Hastings was stripped of his position as a federal judge — impeached by the House in which he now serves and convicted by the Senate — for conspiring to extort a $150,000 bribe in a case before him, repeatedly lying about it under oath and manufacturing evidence at his trial.” (source)  Instead, she chose Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-TX), evidently, not the brightest bulb in the box.

Why would she do this? Well….

The answer is simple: Mrs. Pelosi chose to use the chair for petty and cynical political purposes, wielding her power to punish political rivals and reward her allies.

Pure pettiness!

Mrs. Pelosi recently admitted to placing politics over matters of national security when she admitted she was told about waterboarding but did not object to it in February 2003 because she was too busy with her mission to “change the majority in Congress and to change – to fight to have a new president.”

Does this sound like a person who actually deserves to have the highest seat in the House of Representatives? Third in line to the presidency?  It actually makes me think that, after her, no woman should ever hold that seat again…..and I’m a woman!  The damage she’s done, not just to the C.I.A., which is pretty big, but to the country as a whole.

The cynical use of intelligence and security issues has been a scary behavior Mrs. Pelosi has serially engaged in, and it puts all Americans at risk. Such cavalier disregard for the safety of the American people should give Democrats reason to question the prudence of investing Mrs. Pelosi with the power of the House speaker.

I don’t want immature, petty, children running this country.  Sadly, that’s exactly what we have right now.  There are few grown ups in D.C., and those few who are, are being shut off from important decisions.  Say what you will about Bush, at least HE made real overtures to the opposing party.  This administration goes through the motions on rare occasion, then blows them off.  Other times, they aren’t even included in the discussion, much less the decisions.

It’s past time for Nancy Pelosi to step down.  She doesn’t need to go home, she just needs to go away!  Our enemies are laughing.

Loser Report

19 May 2009, 8:27 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Travel.

Well, I’m still a ‘poor’ person.  Actually, a little more poor than when I started out this evening.  Oh well.  I wasn’t expecting to win big bucks, but it would be nice to get a few bars or even cherries once in a while.  Ok, so it wasn’t that bad, just feels that way.

The most “entertainment” I had was after the lady came up to me and asked if I was hungry.  Well, yeah….after not eating all day, I kind of figured I must be, so she gave me a coupon for a free buffet.   The Mr would be proud, not to mention extremely surprised…..a little bunny food, some lo mein and fried rice, and an itty bitty ‘nanner pudding, and I couldn’t finish any of it.  Well, this isn’t a bad thing, just unusual.

But I gotta tell ya, people are very strange.  The woman behind me, who was also eating alone, spent the entire time on the telephone.  I know ALL about the shot she got today, that made her sweat.  I really didn’t want to know, but as loud as she was talking, I really didn’t have a choice.  Then, there were the 3 woman sitting across from me, to the left.  One was in a wheel chair, and had to wait for one of the others to go get her a plate.  Well, she sat there, waiting patiently, while the larger of the two, sat there blowing her nose, stuffing her face, blowing her nose, stuffing her face.  Finally the other woman went to get it, who I’m guessing was their mother, since there was a strong resemblance, some food. It was a bit disconcerting.  Now I’m thinking, perhaps that’s why I didn’t have much of an appetite.  Nothing puts me off my feed like having to listen to people honking their snouts while in a dining room.

After I left the buffet, I took a trip to the ladies room, which is required after downing a large glass of sweet tea, don’cha know.  Well, I’ll be damned if there were two other women in the stalls, both yapping on their cells phones,  trying to talk over each other.  I know all about someone’s mama, and her stroke.  I know ALL about the other one’s boyfriend, who didn’t show up when he said he would. Jiminy crickets people….a little couth would go a long way….. if ya don’t mind!

So, it’s just after nine, so what am I doing up in my room already?  Welp, I’ve decided it’s just not a whole lot of fun if I can’t go bug the Mr to gimme some more money, battin’ the ol’ eyelashes, saying “Pretty please????”

Maybe I’m just getting old?  Naw…….yeah…but naw….  Well, I suppose the choice between the idjit box, and sticking my nose in a book is my option for the rest of the evening.  Sounds like loads of fun, doesn’t it.  sigh….

I Am Here!

Well, not HERE here, but arrived at my destination.  I have to say, it was a rather interesting drive.  I don’t mind having to take a detour but it would be nice if they’d have more than one sign telling me I’m still going in the right direction.  Naturally, the detour took longer than it would have normally, but eventually, I ended up where I was suppose to be, so that’s ok.  A right purdy drive it was too.  Lots of GREEN trees, very little traffic, and a couple of things I’d rather not see again.

The first was one of these tin cans….

bluesmartcarjpg

…pulling right out in front of a HUGE semi.  It’s a bloomin’ miracle the guy…..(girl?  couldn’t tell) didn’t get creamed!  Honestly, the moron missed the truck by no more than a foot.  And this is the kind of crap ol’ S.F.B. in Chief wants me to drive?  I don’t bloody well think so!

The other thing I saw that got my attention was the fatest alpaca on the planet!  I don’t think it was preggers….I think that sucker was just plain FAT!

alpaca_kisses

Other than the idjit that pulled out in front of me, doing about 10mph while I was doing 55, it was a pretty uneventful drive.

Now, I’m going to turn off the TV, cuz Glenn is over, and I’m gonna go blow some of the Mr’s bucks, doing my part to aid the casino industry!

Pelosi’s Approval Rating Drops

Does this really surprise anyone?

Embattled House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has approval ratings nearly as low as Newt Gingrich when he was the primary lightning rod in Congress, a new poll says.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released this afternoon found that the approval of how Pelosi is doing her job as speaker has dropped from 51 percent in January to 46 percent in March to 39 percent now.

In the new survey, conducted Thursday through Sunday while Pelosi was embroiled in controversy over how much she was told about waterboarding of terrorist suspects, 48 percent of respondents said they disapproved of her performance.

In a news conference on Thursday, she said she had been misled by the CIA — an accusation that prompted officials of both parties to defend the spy agency and that provoked some angry Republicans to say she should put up proof or shut up and apologize.

Gingrich, the former GOP house speaker during the mid-1990s, has called on Pelosi to resign as speaker. He had his approval rating drop into the low 30 percent and as low as 25 percent in March 1997.

Meanwhile, Mike Huckabee, the former presidential candidate turned talk show host, has found another venue to bash Pelosi.

Who knew he was a poet?

The verses posted on his website begin:

Here’s a story about a lady named Nancy
A ruthless politician, but dressed very fancy
Very ambitious, she got herself elected Speaker
But as for keeping secrets, she proved quite a “leaker.”

And the poem later refers to the recent controversy:

She sat in briefings and knew about enhanced interrogation;
But claims she wasn’t there, and can’t give an explanation.
She disparages the CIA and says they are a bunch of liars;
Even the press aren’t buying it and they’re stoking their fires
.

Actually, I am a bit surprised…surprised that the approval ratings aren’t lower than they are.  It is so blatently obvious that she is lying through her teeth.  The problem is that she has been doing this for some time and getting away with it.  This time, she really stepped in it.  It won’t be as easy to spout falsehoods and hope it goes away.  People are finally starting to call her to the carpet.

This woman is a disgrace to this country.  An apology is not enough in this case.  She needs to go away, and go away soon.

Gonna Stimulate The Economy, and Save A Job or Two!

Ok, I’m gonna do my best, at least in Tunica.  Can we afford my little jaunt to a casino?  Well, no, not really.  But the Mr is in Wisconsin, and I’ve gotten rather use to him being around, so it’s kind of lonely around here without him.  True, the cats, Mr Spot and Tazz, are company, but since Mr Spot has taken to biting my ankles, I think I need a break from them too.  :?

Yes, as usual, the laptop is going with me, but I have no intention of sitting in my room to blog.  This is also an escape from B. Hussein’s flapping lips!  Well, as much as possible.  Everytime he bumps his gums, someone, somewhere, is put in more financial pain.  Just trying to help him/her out!  While we still can.

Warning – Horrifyingly Graphic

19 May 2009, 8:47 am. 1 Comment. Filed under Chris From Racine, Crime, Feckless Weasels, Pond Scum.

As I read this, I weep.  When I first read this, I wasn’t sure if I could post on it; it is that horrible.  But it so disturbed me that I couldn’t shake it off, so I had to vent my feelings a bit…

A Bakersfield father is accused of biting out one of the eyes of his small child and similarly mutilating the other eye, leaving the child blind.

After attacking the child, 34-year-old Angel Vidal Mendoza Sr. quickly left his apartment in a wheelchair, entered a backyard of a nearby vacant home and attacked his own legs with an ax, severely injuring himself, Bakersfield police reported.

The child, 4-year-old Angelo Mendoza Jr., later told police, “My daddy ate my eyes.”

Doctors at Mercy Hospital said it is unknown whether the child will regain vision in his right eye.

Child Protective Services cannot discuss the case, CPS program director Brian Parnell said. But in cases of serious abuse, the child is taken into protective custody, he said.

Some foster homes have specialized medical training, but more such people are needed, he said.

The boy’s mother, Desirae Marie Bermudez, 23, was not present during the incident. There is a $15,000 warrant for her arrest for failing to complete a drug treatment program in late 2008, court documents say.

A search warrant report said the father “was displaying symptoms of being under the influence of PCP.”

Both he and Bermudez were charged with being under the influence of PCP in a 2006 criminal case. Both pleaded no contest to child endangerment charges in that case, records say.

So why was the boy still living with the father?

CPS officials say there has to pretty much be serious physical abuse — major bruises or broken bones — before a child is taken away from his parents automatically.

In cases where parents are using drugs, CPS will definitely check on the child, Parnell said. But they won’t necessarily remove the child. That all depends on the extent of the drug abuse or the availability of other care — relatives or neighbors — for the children, he said.

The incident happened in the early evening of April 28 at the apartment the father and son share at 422 Ohio Drive near Terrace Way and Madison Street in southeast Bakersfield.

Police and search warrant reports say:

On the morning of April 28, Mendoza asked neighbor Elizabeth Rodriguez, 36, for a ride to a work-related appointment later in the day.

At 6 p.m., she sent her 12-year-old son to get Mendoza. The boy said Mendoza opened his door slightly and looked nervous, but didn’t let him in. Mendoza said he would be right out.

But a few minutes later, Rodriguez saw Mendoza rolling his wheelchair quickly away.

The 12-year-old boy and another neighbor went to Mendoza’s apartment and discovered the child on the floor.

Meanwhile, witnesses told police a man was yelling and screaming in a wheelchair from the backyard and hitting his legs with an ax.

Mendoza, who remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail, is charged with mayhem, torture, child cruelty and inflicting an injury to a child.

He’s scheduled for a May 20 hearing.

His criminal history dates back to 1998 and includes convictions for drugs, battery, check forgery and a misdemeanor child endangerment.

Whisky. Tango. Foxtrot.  Where to begin?

First, there are those who may say that because the child is so young, he may be able to move past this.  While I certainly hope that is the case for his sake, I tend to doubt it.  If that child can be cognizant of the fact that “daddy ate my eyes”, I doubt it’s something that will ever leave him.  He will have physical scars, he will have emotional scars.  At best, he will only have sight in one eye.  Perhaps not even that.  I can’t even begin to imagine the physical pain that was involved in that torture.  Get past it?  Not likely.

Secondly, why the HELL was that boy still in the custody of those slimeballs they call parents??  Doesn’t CPS stand for child PROTECTIVE services??  I seriously can’t believe that if there is known drug abuse, they will “check” on the child.  Given the record of most of these social services, I’ll wager that this child was not “checked” on for quite some time.  And waiting until there is “serious physical injury”?  Are you kidding me?  Sorry, one doesn’t have to be a trained social worker to understand that those who use and abuse drugs are likely to go off on a violent rampage with no warning whatsoever.  Particularly PCP – trust me on this one.  I know.

This system failed this boy.  It failed society.  Yet nothing ever changes.  Sure, there may be a caseworker or two that gets thrown under the bus, but does the system ever change?  When will these programs actually start to do what they were designed to do…protect the children?

My heart is breaking as I say prayers that this boy eventually has some semblance of a normal life, and can move past the first four years of hell that he has lived through.  No child deserves this.

California: Leading By Example?

19 May 2009, 8:18 am. 3 Comments. Filed under Economy, Moonbats & Other Animals, Taxes.

Well, I gotta tell ya, if California is the example D.C. is following, then they are even more screwed up than I thought, and that’s pretty screwed up!

Avoid California’s Mistakes

Today voters in California will go to the polls to decide the fate of six ballot propositions, four of which would raise taxes on Californians. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has pushed heavily for all six ballot measures which are designed to close the state’s $15 billion budget shortfall. But even though Schwarzenegger’s legacy depends on the passage of these initiatives, he will not be in California tonight to see the results. The Los Angeles Times reports: “His absence in the face of widely forecast defeat drew mockery from his foes.”

Instead Schwarzenegger will be in Washington, DC, where he is scheduled to join President Barack Obama at the White House to celebrate the federal adoption of auto emissions standards that mirror standards previously adopted by California. The Los Angeles Times describes this as “a win for California.” That may be. But it is a loss for the rest of the nation. And it may be just the first of many.

For decades California has been a leader in public policy innovation. A generation ago, California was at the forefront of a taxpayer revolt that eventually helped elect President Ronald Reagan and ushered in three decades of prosperity. California is still exporting its public policy ideas. But this time those ideas spell doom for the rest of the nation. In 2006 Schwarzenegger signed into law the toughest global warming regulations of any state. It is no accident that the author of current federal global warming legislation, Rep. Harry Waxman (D-CA), hails from California. So how is California’s experiment with a “green economy” going?

California  imports more energy than any state in the country and as a result has some of the highest energy costs in the country, including the second highest commercial sector energy prices (only ocean bound Hawaii has higher rates). California’s unemployment rate hit 9.3% in December 2008, up from 4.9% in December 2006. There are now 1.5 million Californians out of work. The state has the fourth-highest housing foreclosure rate in the nation, has lost more businesses than any state in recent years, and is facing a $40 billion deficit. In some small towns unemployment is now running close to 40%.

And at what benefit to the environment? None. All economic pain for zero environmental gain; that is the exact same formula the Waxman-Markey energy tax legislation offers the United States. It’s been a disaster for California. It would be a disaster for the nation.

Shooting at Maplewood graduation kills one, injures two

One man was killed and two other people injured when someone opened fire Monday night minutes after Maplewood High School’s graduation ceremonies ended.

Two hundred Maplewood students were graduating at Tennessee State University’s Gentry Center.

As the crowd of almost 4,000 people began to leave the auditorium, a man shot at Aundreus Taylor, 21, near a side door in the arena lobby area, according to Metro police spokesman Don Aaron.

Taylor ran out the door. Police say a friend of the shooter held the door open as more shots were fired, hitting Taylor in the face and head. He was pronounced dead at Centennial Medical Center.

Before the gun banners get their knickers in a twist:

Police were trying to figure out why the shooter fired at Taylor. Aaron said the victim was known to run with gangs. He was wearing red clothing and the shooter was wearing a dark blue or purple shirt.

The kid was known to have associated with gang members.  Not exactly pillars of the community, are they?  He made a decision to hang out with criminals, who aren’t known for their respect for life.  This decision cost him his own, and put hundreds of others in danger.  Brings to mind that old saying, “when you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas”.

Red and Blue

You’ll never guess which states have most jobless

Unemployment in March was 20 percent higher in so-called “blue states” won by Democratic candidate Barack Obama in last fall’s presidential election than in “red states” won by Republican candidate John McCain, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Let’s see….’blue states’ generally have higher taxes, higher number of labor unions that basically run an overinflated state government. Wonder what the connection might be? Hmmmm…

The baseball statistician and political predictor at FiveThirtyEight.com already has forecast that Obama will need to sustain a 65-percent approval rating to avoid losing the House of Representatives in the 2010 elections in which voters traditionally weigh economic issues particularly strong.

I don’t care if you like the guy, as a person, people really should take a good hard look at what’s he’s done. His words aren’t exactly matching his actions. All those promises for “hope and change”? Just campaign rhetoric way too many bought into. One thing that so many seem to have forgotten, or never learned, it’s not the president that holds the purse strings, it’s the Congress. Congress can either go along with the president’s ‘lofty’ (read that arrogant) ideas, or they can tie them up in committees, do the real research on them, and tell him, “Sorry, we just can’t afford to do this right now!”  Which they could have done with all those ridiculous pork laden bills.
