An Ol' Broad's Ramblings

Late on Friday The Washington Times’ Christian Bourge obtained a copy of Presidential Determination 2009-19, latest in a series of pro forma memos to the Secretary of State entitled “Suspension of Limitations Under the Jerusalem Embassy Act.” This determination is a legally required waiver under said act to continue to delay the May 31, 1999 deadline for moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Nearly identical memos like this have been issued every six months for the last decade. Standard procedure, no big deal, right? Well in the Bush years the memo contained the sentence,
“My Administration remains committed to beginning the process of moving our embassy to Jerusalem.”
The Obama team has edited that passage out. This explains the Friday evening release. Congress should revisit the Jerusalem Embassy Act and remove the loophole that has allowed this charade to continue for ten years. Meanwhile the president should explain exactly what his policy is on this issue, and why he is not committed to beginning the process of moving the embassy.
Real good question. Releasing such a statement at the beginning of the Jewish Sabbath is real interesting in, and of itself.
Personally, I’d like to know why the embassy is Tel Aviv. Jerusalem is the capital, right? Shouldn’t embassies be in the capital city of a country? We saw where it was suppose to be built. Nice spot. So, instead of building an embassy on this prime piece of real estate, it lays there, unused.
After putting it off as long as possible, I finally broke down and went to get my eyes checked. It had been 3 years, and yes, I know….at my age, I should go a bit more often.
Naturally, the ol’ eyeballs aren’t doing as well as they were 40 years ago. sigh…. Yep….stronger prescription, no lazer for me. So, I thought, maybe, I’d try contacts again. Well, because of the way my eyes are, I can’t wear the new fangled bi-focal contacts. Nagdabbit! The mono way doesn’t work so swuft either, so, we’re trying to do the distant thing, with the required ‘reading glasses’. Not so sure this is gonna work out either. But, since it’s been about 5 years since I’ve worn ‘em, I’m going to give it a shot for a week. Ya know, I’ve never had anyone put my contacts in for me before. That was weird.
Got myself some new fancy frames, some sunglasses, and a couple of pokes in the eyeballs. What a wonderful day! Uh huh. Oh, and to top it all off, it seems I’ve got the fuzzy vision cuz we are starting with cataracts!
Then, to top off my wonderful day, I got a text informing me my oldest granddaughter is now legally behind the wheel of a car.
OLD AGE SUCKS!
…..is now at light speed!
“This divine pattern of law for human happiness requires a recognition of God’s suremacy over all things; that man is specifically forbidden to attribute God’s power to false gods; that the name of God is to be held in reverence, and every oath taken in the name of God is to be carried out with the utmost fidelity, otherwise the name of God would be taken in vain; that there is also a requirement that one day each week be set aside for the study of God’s law; that it is also to be a day of worship and the personal renewing of one’s commitment to obey God’s law for happy living; that there are also requirements to strengthen family ties by children honoring parents and parents maintaining the sanctity of their marriage and not committing adultery after marriage; that human life is also to be kept sacred; that he who wilfully and wantonly take the life of another must forfeit his own; that a person shall not lie; that a person shall not steal; that every person must be willing to work for the things he desires from life and not covet and scheme to get the things which belong to his neighbor.”

The Roots Of Liberalism
A near quadrupling of the federal deficit in 2009 alone. The nationalization of the Detroit automakers. The reduction of the biggest banks in the country to mere factotums. Plans to force legislation through Congress this very summer that would amount to a government takeover of health care, which makes up one-seventh of the entire economy.
May I ask a question? Where does President Barack Obama’s agenda come from?
Just a generation ago, you will recall, Reagan revitalized the nation, and then the Soviet Union, long calcified and staggering, at last collapsed. Free markets were good; statism, futile. Didn’t everybody learn that lesson? Didn’t it prove, in some utterly basic way, decisive?
I repeat, where does Obama’s agenda come from?
Charles Kesler knows the answer. Obama’s agenda, he explains, has emerged from a set of beliefs about the proper role of government that date so far back in American history that a lot of people–your correspondent included, though Kesler is too polite to name him–simply overlook them.
President Obama’s admission Thursday of a U.S. role in the toppling of an Iranian government more than half a century ago fell short of the apology that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been demanding for that episode and other “crimes” against Iran.
“In the middle of the Cold War, the United States played a role in the overthrow of a democratically elected Iranian government,” Obama said in his closely watched address in Cairo, directed at the world’s Muslims.
He can’t be bothered to produce documents to prove, or disprove, his eligibility to hold the highest office in the land, but yet, he can spew anything and everything that will cause harm to our nation.
Hundreds of American military personnel have been killed by terrorists linked to Iran, from the early 1980s in Lebanon until the present day in Iraq.
Evidently, those deaths mean diddly to the Clown in Chief. No doubt, his words will cause many more. Will it bother him? Odds are, no. Nothing that damages the U.S., or her citizens, bothers The ONE. It’s all about HIM!
“In 1953 the United States played a significant role in orchestrating the overthrow of Iran’s popular prime minister, Mohammed Mossadegh,” she said. “The Eisenhower administration believed its actions were justified for strategic reasons. But the coup was clearly a setback for Iran’s political development. And it is easy to see now why many Iranians continue to resent this intervention by America in their internal affairs.”
Ok? And so? That was then. This is now. Obviously, Iran hasn’t progressed. If anything, socially, they have regressed. This is the country that has no homosexuals, remember? Why? Cuz they freakin’ hang them!
I don’t know what the “stategic reasons” were that Ike thought were so important. At this point in time, I don’t give a flip. What I do care about is the fact the POTUS is wandering around the world, on our dime BTW, apologizing for anything and everything the U.S. has ever done, thinking this is going to make our enemies like us. Ya know what? I don’t give a flying ……….. flip, whether our enemies like us or not! That’s why they are enemies. They want to do us major harm! All he’s doing is proving how incompetent he really is, and the rest of the world is starting to recognize this…..why can’t we???
How can they do this?
Claiming that it has a “discriminatory effect” on minorities, the Department of Justice has blocked a state from implementing a measure—passed by its legislature and approved by federal courts—to verify that voters are U.S. citizens eligible to cast ballots.
After discovering that non citizens had voted in state elections and thousands more had fraudulently attempted to register, Georgia lawmakers passed a law requiring voters to present a government-issued photo identification card at the polls. Among the accepted forms of ID are Social Security cards, driver’s licenses and special identification cards issued by the state for free.
Minority rights groups, such as the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), sued to block the law’s implementation but in late 2008 a federal judge denied the motion and directed the state to continue the verification process.
A few days ago the Department of Justice stepped in and nixed the voter ID law, claiming that it puts an undue burden on blacks, Hispanics and Asians to prove their citizenship when trying to vote. In a letter to Georgia’s Secretary of State, the DOJ concludes that the measure has a “discriminatory effect” on minority voters.
In a strongly worded statement, Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel said that the Justice Department’s intervention of an already implemented citizenship verification process—approved by two federal courts—shows a “shocking disregard for the integrity of our elections.” She explains that the law was created after evidence that non citizens have voted in past Georgia elections and that more than 2,100 individuals with questionable citizenship have attempted to register.
The Obama Administration’s move on this matter is hardly surprising since the president was highly critical of voter verification laws during his lengthy campaign. Nearly two dozen states have enacted voter ID laws to prevent fraud and last spring the Supreme Court upheld Indiana’s law, rejecting the argument that requiring photo identification will deter poor and minorities from voting in elections.
In its 6-3 decision (Crawford v. Marion County Election Board) the court said that Indiana’s photo ID requirement “is amply justified by the valid interest in protecting the integrity and reliability of the electoral process” and that it could not “conclude that the statute imposes excessively burdensome requirements on any class of voters.”
How in the world can the DOJ simply overturn a court approved (2 courts, no less) voter ID law?? A law that was upheld by the Supreme Court?? I just don’t understand what the problem is with having to actually prove you are a citizen in order to vote. The hogwash about “disenfranchising” is just that…hogwash. And a discriminatory effect? Seriously? I’m so sorry that we are discriminating against ILLEGAL immigrants. You know, those people who are not allowed to vote in this country!!
It’s very disturbing that while some states (not WI of course) seem to be trying to preserve the integrity of elections, Washington is doing everything they can to undermine this most fundemental democratic process.
