An Ol' Broad's Ramblings

Old Age SUCKS!

After putting it off as long as possible, I finally broke down and went to get my eyes checked.  It had been 3 years, and yes, I know….at my age, I should go a bit more often.

Naturally, the ol’ eyeballs aren’t doing as well as they were 40 years ago.  sigh….  Yep….stronger prescription, no lazer for me.  So, I thought, maybe, I’d try contacts again.  Well, because of the way my eyes are, I can’t wear the new fangled bi-focal contacts.  Nagdabbit!  The mono way doesn’t work so swuft either, so, we’re trying to do the distant thing, with the required ‘reading glasses’.  Not so sure this is gonna work out either.  But, since it’s been about 5 years since I’ve worn ‘em, I’m going to give it a shot for a week.  Ya know, I’ve never had anyone put my contacts in for me before.  That was weird.  :?

Got myself some new fancy frames, some sunglasses, and a couple of pokes in the eyeballs.  What a wonderful day!  Uh huh.  Oh, and to top it all off, it seems I’ve got the fuzzy vision cuz we are starting with cataracts!

Then, to top off my wonderful day, I got a text informing me my oldest granddaughter is now legally behind the wheel of a car.

I repeat…….

OLD AGE SUCKS!

That reminds me, I need to do the same thing. Get my eye prescription re-done that is, not having a granddaughter driving.

  2. olbroad. 5 June 2009, 6:15 pm

LMAO Yeah….don’t rush the grandkid thing.

You are such an old bat!!! ;)

  4. olbroad. 5 June 2009, 6:19 pm

Uh huh….just wait smart ass!! You are catching up! :P

If it makes you feel any better, my oldest child will be driving in less than two years… and number six will be driving in 15 years and 8 months.

That probably doesn’t help much, does it?

  6. olbroad. 5 June 2009, 7:51 pm

    No dear…that doesn’t help a bit. LMAO

At first I was going to sympathize, as that I just got my very first pair of bifocals about a month ago. At least I got the progressive lenses. (Get it, progressive?)

But then I got scared about the cataracts. Things are fuzzy and you’re toting a gun. Tell Mr. Ol’ Broad it was nice knowing him. You’ll probably mistake him for a peacock.

  8. olbroad. 5 June 2009, 9:56 pm

Wisenheimer. LOL Mine are progressive ( :P ) as well. Those dadburn lines would drive me buggy. And it ain’t THAT fuzzy…..yet.

Just a month ago, eh? sigh…. I hit 40 and that was it. Like there was some kind of rule or some such. Sheesh!

  9. capper. 5 June 2009, 10:04 pm

I held on until three months shy of 44. The doctor seemed a bit surprised.

  10. olbroad. 5 June 2009, 10:06 pm

Well, ya done good! LOL I’m surprised too! :D

  11. capper. 5 June 2009, 10:28 pm

I’m not. I have always been age resistant. Hell, I can get by with shaving only twice a week still and I still have a full head of hair.

  12. olbroad. 5 June 2009, 10:32 pm

Uh huh. I use to say I was age resistant too. I mean getting carded when you are WAY past the age was pretty cool. Hit a certain age…..pfft! Hell…..hand basket!

  13. capper. 5 June 2009, 10:37 pm

I have to go to the hospital now. I’ve given myself laceration from biting my tongue.

There were just too many responses that would get me in trouble. :P

  14. olbroad. 5 June 2009, 10:43 pm

Well, then, you should be proud of me….cuz I was gonna make a similar tongue biting comment. Heh.

  15. christmasghost. 5 June 2009, 10:55 pm

Your oldest granddaughter will be driving?
Well that’s what happens when you get married when you are a mere fetus….
Hey…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

  16. GUYK. 6 June 2009, 8:26 am

four years ago I had the cataracts on both eyes removed and got new artificial lens installed…I can see for the first time in my life without coke bottle think glasses…should have done it 10 years ago

  17. olbroad. 6 June 2009, 9:03 am

@cg Yeah…that’s it…..not to mention child was only 4 when she gave birth, right? Heh.

@guy I’m gonna have to wait quite a while till I can have any thing done. sigh… Glad it worked for ya though! Gives me some hope. :D

  18. Chris from Racine. 6 June 2009, 9:15 am

Hey – I’ve had “progressive” glasses for a few years now, AND the beginnings of cataracts. And I’ve not yet hit 45 *sigh*

  19. olbroad. 6 June 2009, 9:33 am

Well dayyum woman! YOU ARE getting old! :P I think I’ve decided not to go back to contacts. Was trying to take ‘em out last night to lubricate….never did get the right one out. What a pain! That’s what I get for letting him put them in. Pfft! Then again… Hmmm…. maybe just a few pairs for special occasions? LOL

  20. Chris from Racine. 6 June 2009, 10:13 am

I don’t want to deal with contacts, I may go surgery…

And kiss my ass – I’ll always be younger than you!! :P

  21. olbroad. 6 June 2009, 10:29 am

Seems they can’t remove cataracts till they get REAL bad. How goofy is that?

Uh huh….but I’ll ALWAYS be wiser….so :P back atcha! heh!

  22. capper. 6 June 2009, 7:58 pm

    @Chris and Kate-

See what the evils of your life choices have wrought, while the good, wholesome, liberal little old me is still going good!

  23. olbroad. 6 June 2009, 8:04 pm

Pfft! Ya old fart! What brought me to this level was my LIBERAL youth. :P

  24. capper. 6 June 2009, 8:10 pm

Which only means you are living proof that wisdom does not necessarily come with age. :P

  25. olbroad. 6 June 2009, 8:29 pm

Au contraire! Means that for some of us, reality….aka real life… is a great teacher! Hey….you ever gonna catch up? :D

  26. capper. 6 June 2009, 8:34 pm

Now you’re just trying to kid yourself. I am sound and whole, in mind and body. You, on the other hand, well……

  27. olbroad. 6 June 2009, 8:41 pm

Well, I wouldn’t go so far as to say YOUR mind is all that sound…….

  28. capper. 6 June 2009, 8:46 pm

Which only proves yours isn’t sound at all. :P

  29. olbroad. 6 June 2009, 8:48 pm

Uh huh….you do know that liberalism is a mental disorder, right? :P back atcha!

  30. capper. 6 June 2009, 8:50 pm

Bah, your weak rationalizations don’t hold water to a logical mind.

  31. olbroad. 6 June 2009, 8:53 pm

Rational? Where….where???? Still waiting. I KNOW you aren’t referring to yerself.

  32. capper. 6 June 2009, 9:07 pm

Jealousy really doesn’t become you, m’dear.

  33. olbroad. 6 June 2009, 9:10 pm

    ROFLMAO Oh capper….yer sooooo funny!

  34. capper. 6 June 2009, 9:17 pm

    Yeah, well, looks aren’t everything, y’know. :D
