A Republic… IF We Can Keep It!
by J.D. Longstreet

The story is told that when Ben Franklin emerged from the Constitutional Convention an anxious lady asked him what kind of government they had given us. His famous reply was: “A republic, Madam… if you can keep it.” And, for the most part, we Americans have been trying to keep it. But “change” is in the air.

Have you noticed how the Democratic Party has stopped denying its socialist tendencies?

Months ago, as I began to write about the dangers of socialism to America, (and how the Democratic Party has become a sort of Democratic/Socialist party) I was stunned when they, the democrats, did not refute it! See, I had expected democrats to deny any connection to socialism. But they didn’t. It was then that it struck me… they don’t deny it because they can’t. Apparently, they have embraced socialism.

There are some well run socialist countries in the world. Many rank ahead of us in many key statistics. But I have no problem with you dissenting on the need of us leaning that way ourself, even if I disagree with you.

To answer your question, the reason we have not come out full force trying to distance ourself from socialism is because, I think, more people are becoming more informed about what socialism means and what it provides. If this was the 1950′s then calling me a socialist or communist (two seperate things) would be a little scary but we have evolved education wise. I remember the Reagan years and we still had our share of social programs. Social programs did not get created since November so it’s not like it slipped up on people.

I know you aren’t one but the country is leaning more left then right. But it’s all cyclical. In time we will swing back to the right when republicans get their party in order. The republican party is in such chaos that they can’t take advantage of the tea party movement and garner that into party support. If the American people are so against this trend of leaning left then it should be no problem winning republican seats back come next election.

Uh huh….name one.  What socialist country allows their people the freedom to achieve?

I’m afraid you’re mistaken.  If you follow polls of the leftist news media, yeah…I’d agree.  But the question are so fully skewed to the left, they are pretty much useless.  When you ask people if they want to be free….overwhelmingly, they will say yes.  Socialism does not allow for freedom.

I’m not a Republican, so I honestly don’t give a flip what they do, or don’t do.   The Tea Parties have nothing to do with partisan politics.  We have attendees from ALL walks of life and political persuasions.
