An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings
The Last Real Journalist?
As a young sprout, we had 3 television channels, all in black and white. Eventually, color sets came out, but we never had one. The reasoning was “why buy a new one when this one works just fine”. Watching the evening news was a ritual in our family, Huntley and Brinkley, and Cronkite are the ones I remember best. My dad would come in from work, sit down, call whoever was in the house at the time to come and watch the news with him. Sometimes, we’d pretend we didn’t hear him, or let him know we were doing our homework (snicker), but a great deal of the time, at least one of us would be sitting there with him while Mom was cooking dinner. That was when news was actually the NEWS, and not slanted opinion fluff they feed you these days. It was the ugly truth, or the sad reality, but it was usually what was really going on. I really miss the hard hitting reporters. You know the ones that actually researched a story before ever releasing it to the public. Facts. Pure facts. The Cronkites of that business are sorely missed.
Rest in peace!

My own opinion of Cronkite is not so high. I consider him the forerunner of the modern propagandists.
Yeah….but I’m a LOT older than you, and I remember him back when he was still a real journalist. I didn’t mention his more recent years cuz well, I quit watching him by that point. Figured it out, don’cha know.
I remeber watching Walt’s last broadcast. At least at that time he had some journalistic integrity. Then he came out as a “full blowen liberal”. I agree with Steve (above) At best he had the sense to wait until he retired to reveal his real direction. Maybe this was journalistic integrity.
Cronkite was a nasty old commie…period. He lived to 92 and thanks to him thousands of our young men died at 29.
I hope he rots in hell with his buddies Mao and Hitler….
If he was a “good journalist” then Michael Jackson was every little boy’s best friend………
BTW…..did you know he was a member of the new world order society and was “glad to be sitting at the right hand of Satan”????
Here it is…prepare to be creeped out.

and BTW, my dad knew old crankcase…they both belonged to the cruising club of america…and Dad [who is a real patriot] said he was a total douchebag.
C’mon, Ol’ Gal,
Cronkite never could even fill Douglas Edwards’ shoes. Is your advancing years’ Alzheimer’s kickin’ in or something?
Ok, since everyone is getting their knickers in a twist, I was not putting the man on a pedastal. Sheesh! I just remember watching the news with my dad, and he was one of the two we watched. This was in the 60’s, and yes Steve, my old timers is in high gear lately. LOL
But they really don’t have journalist anymore. Fluff and propaganda. That’s it. sigh…. Rather sad, isn’t it.
You have The Olbertard and Chris Matthews and his tingling leg. You have ABC turning its network over to the White House to run an evening of propaganda.
*chibber* Y’know, the idea that any of the old time reporter types ever saying someone gave ‘em thrills like that just boggles. And even though FDR had a mild form Obummeritis, I can’t imagine him EVER giving a freakin’ media outlet full rein over anything.
“And even though FDR had a mild form [???] Obummeritis, I can’t imagine him EVER giving a freakin’ media outlet full rein over anything.”
Wanna bet? He had the newsreels and the media and if they didn’t do what he told them to they were labeled un American.
And you do realize that that bastard Cronkite was like the scout ant cockroach you find in your pantry. He was just laying the groundwork for everything that is happening now…
Just sayin’………read up on that dirt bag FDR, you will be shocked.
I’m just sayin’ Obumbler is a WHOLE lot worse. FDR was no prize, that’s for sure. I’m definitely not a fan of socialists, past or present.
“I’m just sayin’ Obumbler is a WHOLE lot worse.”
On that we sure can agree. Have you watched the vid yet?
Shoot woman, I just got home from 2 days on the road with a 10 year old in my truck. I’m considering taking up drinking. Heh.
Ok, I remember watching that. My whole issue was that while he was reporting the news….he was reporting the news. From way back when…that’s the way I remember it. And my whole thing was sitting with my dad watching….not who we were watching. Now, they just spew the party line, and it’s no longer actual journalism.
