Once Again Obama Misstates Number of Uninsured Americans—This Time in a New York Times Op-Ed
President Obama for a third time has misstated the number of Americans who lack health insurance, this time doing it in an op-ed piece published Saturday by the New York Times.
“I don’t have to explain to the nearly 46 million Americans who don’t have health insurance how important this is,” Obama said in the op-ed about his efforts to reform the American health care industry.
In a July 22 primetime press conference, Obama falsely said there were “47 million Americans who have no health insurance.” At an August 11 town hall meeting in Portsmouth, N.H., he falsely said “nearly 46 million Americans don’t have health insurance coverage today” and that “46 million of our fellow citizens have no coverage.”
In fact, according to the latest available data from the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 35.920 million uninsured U.S. citizens and 9.737 million uninsured foreign nationals residing in the United States. Counting the uninsured foreign nationals, that makes a total of 45.657 million—or “nearly 46 million”– uninsured people in the United States.
Over guestimated by 10 million. I wasn’t aware that foreign nationals had a say in how we run our business here? How many of those remaining 35 million don’t WANT insurance, for a variety of reasons, including the idea they are young, and will live forever, aka “That could NEVER happen to me!” syndrome? How many have lost their jobs, hence their insurance, due to the current administration’s lack of economic common sense? How many are ILLEGALS who have no business being within our borders to begin with, who are swamping the emergency rooms for a cold, or a splinter? How many are eligible for taxpayer funded Medicaid, who aren’t signing up?
Last year I read that there were somewhere between 12 to 20 million illegals in the U.S.
I suspect a few have went home in the last six months but they will be back as soon as the economy picks back up.
Don’t worry, the government uses numbers like we use tissues, sometimes I think that they don’t really care what the numbers are anyway as long as their money sources are happy and keep their pockets filled with cash.

It should be noted that the report you cite has a reputation for underestimating the number of uninsured because it considers one uninsured only if they have been so for the entire year. See the grey box on p. 27 or Appendix C for a bettter explanation. Estimates of those uninsured for any given point in a year are at around 90 million.
And as for those who do not want coverage, they have it anyway. Those invincibles who get in a car wreck get treatment and it gets passed on to the rest of us through our premiums or taxes anyway.
Papa, there’s no telling exactly how many ILLEGALS are sucking off the teat of the American taxpayer. Perhaps if we could send ‘em home, and close the borders, LEGAL citizens could get the care they need, even if they don’t have insurance. Novel concept, eh?
Jim, ever heard of a little something called personal responsibility? I know it’s a rather archaic idea, but there are some of us who still believe in it. If some yahoo gets blitzed and plows into the family car, he/she should be responsible for paying any hospital bills, even if it takes 40 years. I want the government OUT of every single business, and that includes health care. As I’ve stated previously, 80/20 hospitalization/catastrophic, and we’d go a LONG way to solving the issues. The major problems started when the Killin’ Kennedy poked his nose into health care back in the 70s.

How DARE you question our President?? He only has the best interest in mind for all our 57 states! If you say He cant count, then you must be a racist! As soon as he learns to speak Austrian, hes going to lead all of us typical white people that cling to our guns and bibles into a promised land where there is no pesky constitution, cuz its just a charter of negative liberties, anyway.
