Pro-Life Advocate Murdered Outside Michigan School While Protesting Abortion

Local officials and state police are confirming that a pro-life advocate was shot and killed outside a high school in this Michigan town. The person, who is described as well-known but whose identity has not been released, was shot multiple times while protesting abortion outside Owosso High School.

Officials say the shooting occurred at 7:30 a.m. local time and most students were inside the school building at the time of the incident.

State police have also confirmed they apprehended a suspect about 8:15 a.m. at the suspect’s home in this small community northeast of Lansing.
(…)
Father Frank Pavone, the director of Priests for Life, has commented on the shooting in an email to LifeNews.com.

“We do not know the motive yet. But this is a time to console one
another, and to renew our determination to organize peaceful protests,” he said. “It is no time for fear.”

Pavone called on abortion advocates to comdemn the shooting.

“And I am waiting to hear the abortion advocates condemn this killing,” he said.

Yeah…..me too!

NEVER FORGET!

Don’t Let 9/11 Become Just Another Earth Day

Three years ago, Norwell High School social studies teacher Julie Fox commemorated 9/11 by asking her students to write journal entries recounting where they were when the planes hit and how they felt at that moment. But now, Fox tells the Boston Globe, too few students remember the day. So Fox spends class time explaining the basics of what happened on 9/11 and why. “It’s almost like teaching the Civil War,” she said.

High School students are not the only ones for whom 9/11 is becoming a distant memory. According to the Washington Post, 70% of Democrats say the war in Afghanistan has not been worth its costs (compared to 70% of Republicans who say the war is still worth fighting). Council on Foreign Relations Fellow Stephen Biddle explains: “Surely a big piece of the declining poll numbers for support for Afghanistan is that the public does not yet see the connection between Afghanistan and al-Qaida today.”

Responding to their leftist base, opposition to the effort in Afghanistan is growing. among liberals in Congress. Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), co-chair of the 82-member Congressional Progressive Caucus, said her group is unified in wanting to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. And House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told reporters yesterday: “I don’t think there’s a great deal of support for sending more troops to Afghanistan in the country or the Congress.”

One would think that President Obama would take the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks as an opportunity to educate Americans about the link between the fight in Afghanistan and the still very real threat posed by al-Qaida today. No such luck. Instead, President Obama has chosen to use 9/11 to promote his own domestic policy agenda. In a letter celebrating 9/11 as a “National Day of Service and Rememberance” President Obama writes:

We are building a new foundation for growth and prosperity, but we cannot succeed without your help. We can rebuild out schools, but we need mentors and tutors to guide our students. We can modernize our health system, but we need volunteers to care for the sick and assist others in leading healthier lives. We can invest in clean energy, but we need people to maintain energy efficiency in their homes and help create a green economy.

School construction? Health care reform? Green jobs? These are all important areas of public policy debate, but what do they have to do with keeping us safe from those who wish to inflict a second 9/11 on the American people? Debra Burlingame, whose brother was the pilot of the American Airlines jet that crashed into the Pentagon told the Associated Press: “When I first heard about it, I was concerned. I fear, I greatly fear, at some point we’ll transition to turning it into Earth Day where we go and plant trees and the remembrance part will become smaller and smaller and smaller.”

Thanks to President Obama’s www.serve.gov, that is exactly what is happening. In Oklahoma students will pull weeds, plant flowers, paint benches, and plant a tree. In Minnesota, 100 volunteers will assemble Energy Efficiency Outreach Bags. And in South Carolina AmeriCorps members will serve in a variety of projects, including garden beautification, food and clothing collections, and working with homeless and hungry people.

True volunteerism strengthens civil society. But federal government involvement undermines, not strengthens, true public service. Instead of coordinating garden beautifications, the federal government should honor the memory of the tragedy of 9/11 by focusing on policies that will make sure it never happens again.

An Eyewitness Account

11 September 2009, 9:28 am. Comments Off. Filed under History, Religion of Pieces.

I got an email from Doc a little while ago, directing his ‘list’ to read a post. This is that post:

Eight Years Ago – by Allahpundit (from Twitter early morning 9/11/2009)

Eight years ago, I remember opening my eyes at 8:46 a.m. in my downtown Manhattan apartment because…

…I thought a truck had crashed in the street outside

I remember pacing my apartment for the next 15 minutes thinking, stupidly, that a gas line might have been hit in the North Tower…

…and then I heard another explosion. I hope no one ever hears anything like it.

All I can say to describe it is: Imagine the sound of thousands of Americans screaming on a city street

It was unbelievable, almost literally

9/11

On the 8th anniversary of the cowardly attack on our nation, I once again honor one of the innocent people murdered by Islamic terrorists.

9/11/01 – Martin Morales Zempoaltecatl

zempoaltecatl_martin_morales_2a.jpg

I had never heard this name. There are others that you recognized after hearing them on the news time and time again. People like Todd Beemer, Barbara Olsen, Chick Burlingame. But has anyone ever heard the name Martin Morales Zempoaltecatl? Truth be told, I can’t even pronounce it. I decided to start my search for this young man on Google. It made sense. I typed in the long name, and came up with over 700 hits, the majority were sites listing the names of those who parished on 11 September 2001. They’re long lists. But nothing told me about the person Martin had been. He was 22 years old. Too young to die. He worked as an assistant chef in the Windows of the World. This is all the information I could find. I wanted to know more. Was he married? Did he have children who will never see their daddy again? Where did he come from, what place did he call home, and will never be able to return? I know he lived in Queens. But where in Queens? What were his dreams that will never be fulfilled? I received this picture from the 2996 group, but hadn’t really had a chance to actually look at this young man. The first thing I noticed, as I usually do, are his eyes. He has kind eyes. Was he a kind person? He must have been, he supported his parents. Then I saw a sweet, cheerful smile, and I knew he was a good person. For some reason, I see him liking children, nieces, nephews, the neighborhood kids.

martin-9-11-victim.jpg

Doing a little more digging, I found out Martin was born in Santa Catarina, Tlaxcala, Mexico. He supported his parents, Crescencio Morales, 60, and Mauricia Zempoaltecatl, also 60. Martin was the youngest of their children, and this tragedy hit them quite hard. They have since returned to Mexico. One thing I did discover, as of that article, the family had not received any of the thousands of dollars that had been given so generously by the American people. I hope that has now been resolved. I’d like to find out if the family is now able to care for their other children and grandchildren. This young man evidently wasn’t counted among the slaughtered innocents originally.

zempoaltecatl_martin_morales0a.jpg

This year, I did some more checking, and a little more information about this young man was available. It turns out Martin was not just an employee at the Windows on the World. He was an assistant chef. I’d like to believe he was a really good chef. His niece, Cynthia, sure seemed to believe so:

Martin Morales, my uncle only being 22 years old. He was working in the World Trade center. He was a great chef and a loving uncle. Being the youngest uncle, we were very close to him. Even though we didn’t find his body, his smile will always be in our hearts. We miss him very much!

One other thing I came across while searching for any new information on Martin, was the blog of a runner, Running to Remember.

I don’t know anyone directly, or indirectly affected. Eight years later, I’m divorced and remarried. The twins are now 10 and I’m looking forward to trying to have another child in the near future. But the tradegy of the day still haunts me. I have wanted to do something for those that died. It is my hope this serves that purpose.

I sincerely hope to not offend anyone with this tribute. Should you find any offense, please contact me so I can address the issue, both privately and publicly. My intention is honor each and every person who died that morning. I also have no desire to cause any more pain for the loved ones they left behind.

Last January 4, this gentleman starting running to honor those who perished on September 11, 2001.

On Wednesday, June 10 of this year, Brent Mann ran 4 miles in honor of Martin, and 3 others who perished on that sunny morning.  I haven’t been able to find out if he was able to complete his run.  He seems to have stopped blogging.  I’d like to hope that he has.

I pray Martin’s family has found peace, and will tell the new members of their family about this young man.  I pray he will never be forgotten.  I know he’ll be residing in my heart.

‘MEET ME IN THE STAIRWELL’

You say you will never forget where you were when
you heard the news On September 11, 2001.
Neither will I.

I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room
with a man who called his wife to say ‘Good-Bye.’ I
held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the
peace to say, ‘Honey, I am not going to make it, but it
is OK..I am ready to go.’

I was with his wife when he called as she fed
breakfast to their children. I held her up as she
tried to understand his words and as she realized
he wasn’t coming home that night.

I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a
woman cried out to Me for help. ‘I have been
knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!’ I said.
‘Of course I will show you the way home – only
believe in Me now.’

down1

I was at the base of the building with the Priest
ministering to the injured and devastated souls.
I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He
heard my voice and answered.

I was on all four of those planes, in every seat,
with every prayer. I was with the crew as they
were overtaken. I was in the very hearts of the
believers there, comforting and assuring them that their
faith has saved them.

I was in Texas , Virginia , California , Michigan , Afghanistan .
I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news.
Did you sense Me?

I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew
every name – though not all knew Me. Some met Me
for the first time on the 86th floor.

down2

Some sought Me with their last breath.
Some couldn’t hear Me calling to them through the
smoke and flames; ‘Come to Me… this way… take
my hand.’ Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me.
But, I was there.

I did not place you in the Tower that day. You
may not know why, but I do. However, if you were
there in that explosive moment in time, would you have
reached for Me?

Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey
for you. But someday your journey will end. And I
will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may
be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are
‘ready to go.’

I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.

God

I did not watch Obama’s speech last night.  I had better things to do, like navel gazing.  It was a lot more informative as evidenced from the text!

Madame Speaker, Vice President Biden, Members of Congress, and the American people:

Not “my fellow Americans”?  Why didn’t he just say “my subjects”?

I did hear about Rep Joe Wilson‘s outburst.  Heh.  Calling a spade a spade!  I also heard he called the White House to apologize for said outburst.  I’m seriously hoping he did NOT apologize for speaking the truth, just his bad manners.  :D   Seems his site has quite a bit of traffic this morning too.

Due to exceptionally high traffic, this site is temporarily unavailable.

Please come back shortly.

I wouldn’t mind sending him an email myself, thanking him for saying what a great many of us have been saying for 9 months now. :P

One more good reason for not watching the speech, the man has not learned a dadburn thing. He is oblivious to the will of the people, or just flat doesn’t give a happy crap. Either way, he is NOT the ‘change’ most folks were hoping for when they cast their vote. Well, unless they are avowed socialists.

1-1-head-up-ass

(Seriously, I watched a movie I had DVR’d.  Pretty good too.  The Secret Life of Bees.  I’m told the book was even better.  Guess I’ll have to get that one to add to my pile of books that must be read. :D )

Liberal Lies About National Healthcare: Fourth in a Series
by Ann Coulter

(12) Only national health care can provide “coverage that will stay with you whether you move, change your job or lose your job” — as Obama said in a New York Times op-ed.

This is obviously a matter of great importance to all Americans, because, with Obama’s economic policies, none of us may have jobs by year’s end.

The only reason you can’t keep — or often obtain — health insurance if you move or lose your job now is because of … government intrusion into the free market.
