Pediatrician accused of child porn, rape manages to set up practice in Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A pediatrician accused of child pornography and rape of a teenage patient had a troubled past, including being fired by three hospitals in Tennessee. But that didn’t get in the way of him setting up a practice in northeast Alabama.
Court records and testimony show Dr. Michael Roy Sharpe of Albertville was fired from three Tennessee hospitals — twice for allegations of sexual misconduct in the 1990s. But he still was able to practice in Alabama, where he is now accused of having sex with a 15-year-old patient.
A review by The Associated Press also found that, despite his troubled history, no state has taken disciplinary action against him.
Alabama medical licensing officials say the two sex-related claims in Tennessee were not put on a federal databank. And they dropped their more recent probe when he voluntarily surrendered his license.
You mean to tell me that the state of Tennessee never bothered to strip him of his license? And that Alabama gave him free reign to abuse more kids? Isn’t there some board or some such that grants doctors the PRIVILEGE, on a national level, to practice medicine? I wasn’t aware it was a license to abuse children.

This may shock you, but Im all for the “innocent til proven guilty” thing. Yes, he SOUNDS as if theres alot of fire behind the smoke, but we need to know for sure before destroying the mans life.
If he HAS done wrong, put his ass away. In this case, it sounds as if he has. If the allegations are false, let him resume his practice. In other words: the govt in this case needs to shit or get off the pot.
Lets get the legal ball rolling here.
Well, it seems he has been proved to wrong doing. At least that’s my understanding. It annoys the bejabbers outta me that even though he can’t practice in one state, he’s quite free to practice in another? Something REAL wrong with this picture.
He surrendered his own license.
The guy should never have been able to set up shop in a different state. There are some things that should be in a database, and child predator doctors should be at the top of the list.
Im going by the parts:
- accused of child pornography and rape of a teenage patient
- allegations of sexual misconduct in the 1990s
- accused of having sex with a 15-year-old patient.
- no state has taken disciplinary action against him.
- two sex-related claims in Tennessee were not put on a federal databank. And they dropped their more recent probe when he voluntarily surrendered his license.
So a guy is accused multiple times of wrong doing, but no charges are filed, then when he stes up shop elsewhere, people get utpset. You cant put someone in Limbo then be shocked when they dont just sit there. As I said, charges either need to be filed, or not. Him even surrendering his license doesnt mean anything. Either you are guilty, and should be locked away, or you are not and are free. We cant have “half assed” justice.
What is bothering me the most here is that no charges have been filed. I personally know people who have been sent up the river for things like this, and the authorities didnt dawdle and do nothing. They love going after cases like this, theyre easy pickings. So why arent they locking this guy up?
