An Ol' Broad's Ramblings

Ticked!

I am furious!  I had to make a trip to our local Wally World to pick up a few things.  While I was there, I thought I’d get a card for my pastor.  You’d think it would be an easy thing to do, right?  I mean, after all, this is Christmas, so there should be plenty of cards of the Christian variety.   You know the kind….”For unto you is born…“, etc.  I walked down this very long aisle, full of “Ho Ho Ho”, with Santa, reindeer, snowmen, and the like.

I walked up and down this aisle, searching.  Up, down, up, down, back and forth.  After several frustrating trips, I FINALLY found them.  All 11 of them.  Seriously!  ELEVEN cards expressing the TRUE joyous meaning of this season.  That’s it!  Out of hundreds.  You’d think in an area, where there are so many houses of worship, you could throw a rock, and hit one, that there would be more than 11!  This is the buckle of the Bible Belt for the love of pete!

Ok, OB, since you didnt get the memo:

Thanksgiving = “Lousy football games, pilgrim idolization & complain about the dry turkey day” (a reason to over-eat)
Christmas = “Santa Claus, Frosty, Rudolph, Elves, toys, disappointment over not getting what you really wanted because youre selfish, pretty lights and ornaments, and watch kids play with the box the $200 toy came in day” (another reason to over-eat)

Easter = “Easter bunny, chocolate, painted eggs, go to church because you feel you have to day” (again a reason to over-eat)

Valentines = “you have to buy expensive stuff for someone you love despite that you showed them you love them every other day of the year, because the retail world tells us we have to day”

St. Patricks = “an excuse to get drunk, wear greeen, and make an ass of yourself day”

Martin Luther King day = “another excuse for black people to get special privledges and another reason for banks to close day”

    Columbus day = “who cares?”

4th of July = “fireworks and blow shit up in the backyard day”

The rest of the holidays are filed under “…huh? what?”

It is true= way to hard to find a Christmas Card that says Merry Christmas much less one that has the Baby Jesus on it!

That’s one reason I’m not sending out cards this year.  I guess I could have ordered them, but you know how flakey I am.  Plum forgot!  sigh…

I asked the girl who check me out about the lack of appropriate cards.  She said “You’d be surprised how many people have commented on that very same thing!”  Actually, no, I wouldn’t.  I think more and more people are getting angry at the secularization.

Keep the faith Kate!  One little voice adds to one little voice adds to one little voice….etc. until thousands of little voices add up to one big voice.

    I’m trying Kathy….I really am.

I know it’s tough in this world.  Especially when Christians continue to ram into brick walls wherever they go.

  8. olbroad. 11 December 2009, 11:40 am

Unfortunately, a lot of ‘em are building those walls.

People have to WANT things like those cards, and they dont. Thats the sad part. Stores sell things there are a demand for. Obviously there isnt in this case, so refer back to my first post in this thread   ;)

Not exactly the case around these parts.  I’ve talked to others around here, and there have been some major complaints made.  So, it seems to be the stores….not the customers, that are shoving Christ out of Christmas.

I love it when people bring genius to the comment section of a post.. LOL!
SB’s break down of the holidays is not only absolutely hilarious, but dead accurate!!

I had to venture out into the retail world yesterday, not by my own choice either. I went to get our Christmas cards to mail out to various people. You will be happy to know that the Walmart here is the exact same way. Only a handful of cards expressing the true meaning of Christmas.
I had to stop at Family Dollar for something SP had to have for school that was forgotten about at Walmart. While she was getting what she needed, I went over to the card section. At FAMILY DOLLAR over half their selection were cards expressing the true meaning of Christmas. Now what is wrong with this picture?
