Road crews work around the clock

While many people in West Tennessee played in the snow Saturday, road crews and power companies worked throughout the day to repair the damage caused by Friday’s storm.

We’ve been working straight through since 6:30 yesterday morning,” said Buddy Crick, assistant superintendent with the Jackson Street Department. “We are bringing in another crew to work until 3 in the morning.”

Crick said his crews have spread more than 300 tons of salt since Friday morning. So far the crews have focused on keeping main routes open such as Hollywood Drive, Highland Avenue and Dr. F.E. Wright Drive.

Salt does not work as well on iced streets, and it takes longer for plows to clear the streets, Crick said.

Now, I admire these fine folks for doing a tough job which isn’t exactly normal for our neck of the woods. That being said….”Salt does not work as well on iced streets…”? Really. I don’t know….isn’t salt the stuff that actually does a good job on icy streets in Wisconsin? I remember many salt trucks running around, trying to make the streets drivable. Perhaps I have something mixed up in my tiny little brain?  What would you use on icy roads instead?

Jamaica – Day 11

Just a couple of observations here.

First off:

Why did I take a picture of toilet paper, you are asking?  Well, I’ll tell ya.  See where it says “Ultrasoft”?  I’m not sure who came up with this description, but evidently they actually believe sand paper is soft.  I don’t know, about you, but I’ve never found it to be so.  Actually, the TP around here reminds me, quite a bit, of the toilet paper that’s issued on military bases.  At least back in the 70s.  :?   If that’s West’s Best, they need to go back to the drawing board.

Second, since we’ve been here, I keep noticing this wood carving on the beach side, and I knew something was off about it.  Usually, I’d see it at night, and it wasn’t real clear.  Well, a couple of days ago, I was able to take a good look in the daylight, and I finally figured out what was bugging me.

Can ya see what the problem might be?  Here….take a closer look:

I don’t know…..boobs…..mustache…..??  I’d say someone has some serious hormone issues!  :?

Axelrod Not Surprised by Alito Gesture at State of the Union

A top White House adviser says it’s gotten to the point where almost any unusual reaction or outburst to a speech by President Barack Obama in the House chamber isn’t really that unusual.

Obama aide David Axelrod was talking about Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s reaction to Obama’s State of the Union address last week.

The justice made a dismissive face, shook his head repeatedly and appeared to mouth the words “not true” or possibly “simply not true” when Obama criticized the high court over a campaign finance ruling.

Axelrod says that “in this weird political season, we have become accustomed to unusual outbursts” in the House during presidential speeches.

Perhaps if we didn’t have a Clown in Chief who was constantly spewing such large piles of male bovine excrement on a regular basis, there wouldn’t be such reactions to his blatherings!

Where Are The Grown Ups?

While sitting around, waiting for the sun to come back out, I was perusing a variety of news sites. I came across an opinion piece in The Telegraph that peaked my interest, so I read it. One paragraph in particular put my ears back.

But there is an even more significant distinction between the British and American scenes. The great mistake that Mr Obama is now believed to have made in his first year of office was to have ignored the concerns of the American middle-income population. This misjudgment has counted against him in a quite spectacular way, because no mature political leader of any party should have made it. It is engraved on the consciousness of all ambitious politicians in the US that the most basic principles of national life are rooted in the ethic of the confident, demanding, easily provoked middle class. What Mr Obama referred to repeatedly as “American values” in his speech to Congress are really the values of this class: self-reliance, self?improvement, industriousness – and, as the Obama White House has found to its cost, antipathy to being bossed around by Big Government.

Mature?  One thing Barack Hussein Obama is NOT is mature.  He’s more like a kid on Christmas morning who isn’t satisfied with the huge pile of present under the tree, and wants more, throwing a tantrum when told that is IT!  Due to such bad behavior, mom and dad are now removing said presents, packing them up to return to the store.  We are ‘mom and dad’, and are fed up with the little hooligan’s tantrums.

It has always been apparent to those who were actually paying attention that this man was not the right one for the job.  Hell, I would have preferred Hillary Clinton to this toddler.  At least she has a little common sense, and political savvy.

Obama bullied his way into the White House.  Perhaps it’s time for We, THE PEOPLE, to bully his sorry self right back out.  Or, at least, make sure he can’t do much more damage past the 2010 elections, and hopefully, reverse some of the damage already done!
