An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings
What Planet??
Do you ever wonder how the moonbattiest of moonbats got elected to Congress? Yeah…me too! So, I’m wondering how the heck Alan Grayson ever even got past the primaries, much less actually winning the election. Are the people in his district mentally challenged?
Business Should Mind Its Own Business Act (Introduced in House)
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to impose a 500 percent excise tax on corporate contributions to political committees and on corporate expenditures on political advocacy campaigns.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
January 13, 2010
Mr. GRAYSON introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means
A BILL
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to impose a 500 percent excise tax on corporate contributions to political committees and on corporate expenditures on political advocacy campaigns.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the `Business Should Mind Its Own Business Act’.
500% tax on company contributions? C’mon….is he serious? Not that I’m all that crazy about companies inserting themselves into the political process, but this is nothing new. You contribute to the candidate that you believe are business friendly. That wouldn’t be the Democrats, which is probably why he came up with this harebrained idea.
Hey….does this mean the high dollar unions will have to pay that 500% tax too? Wonder if he considered them when he started drooling in his lap over sucking more money out of the private sector?

I take it from what you wrote above as well as the comic you published earlier that you were disappointed with the recent Supreme Court decision. I was too. I do not consider myself to be a liberal or a conservative, more center stage, but I was outraged by that decision. Now you can kiss immigration reform goodbye.
He may be an idiot, but he came from the slums and is now one of the wealthiest… Hmmmm, wonder if we followed the money what we would find??? Grayson also was the first President of IDT Corporation, a publicly traded billion-dollar telecommunications company.[5][6] Grayson was ranked as the 12th-wealthiest member of Congress based on financial disclosure forms with a minimum net worth of $31.12 million, according to Roll Call.[7]Grayson also was the first President of IDT Corporation, a publicly traded billion-dollar telecommunications company.[5][6] Grayson was ranked as the 12th-wealthiest member of Congress based on financial disclosure forms with a minimum net worth of $31.12 million, according to Roll Call.[7] No offense to the people of Orlando, but they knew what they were getting. Grayson was elected as a progressive Democrat, and is a Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.[16]. He is also a Bush hater! What a waste of skin!
Wouldn’t it be nice if some of the decisions made on some of these issues were put to the voters? I mean that happens at State and Local levels from time to time, why not at the Federal Level. I mean I don’t want to see government run health care either, but I would also not be against letting the voters have a say in the matter. I say let the voters have a say in immigration reform, after all it’s their tax money at stake is it not?
Tim it actually says in the constitution, that what isnt directly stated as powers given to the federal government, is left to the people, the cities and states.
But like everything else congress does, they circumvent the constitution. Its an obastacle to them, not rules to govern by.
Shadow would you care to go into specifics please?
Tim, the specifics would be in the U.S. Constitution. It’s not a real long document, and can be read in a fairly short amount of time.
Okay olbroad. I think you mean provide for the health, safety, and general welfare of the people right?
What is your response to what I said above?
In a Republic, the House of Representatives are suppose to impose the will of the people. Sadly, those currently resting their behinds in those hallowed halls are NOT doing their proposed job. What you are suggesting with the mass voting would be a democracy. Although, I agree, since the reps are NOT doing the job for which they were elected, it might not be a bad idea to put it before the people.
But in response to the specifics, the Constitution goes beyond the Preamble. It was written to limit the power of the Federal government, and the feds are circumventing at every turn.
Just my point olbroad, I think on many issues, it’s best to let the people decide. Now clearly there are some exceptions such as issues of national defense but I think that we should have more of a say on issues such as education, immigration, environment, etc.
Seems we agree on something
The fed govt isnt supposed to do anything more than build roads and defend us from invaders, foreign AND domestic.
Instead we have this giant, power mad money gobbling octopus from HELL thats trying to control everything from what we drive to what we wear and eat.
Shadow how do you feel about the National Park system?
And the constitution says postal roads and many interpret that as including airways, highways, railways, and even ship canals.
IMHO, Tim, that interpretation wouldn’t be entirely accurate, unless mail is being transported.
If we are able to return to a Republic, then perhaps many of the problems we are seeing these days would, not necessarily be solved, but on the road to repair.
National parks, fine.
Taking my tax money and buying private planes, private airports, bailing out companies that shouldnt be bailed out, social programs that the majority of Americans dont want or agree with, etc etc = bad.
