Jason Whitlock, race-baiting the Super Bowl
The old adage says that religion and politics don’t mix. Someone needs to tell FOX Sports writer Jason Whitlock that sports and politics don’t either. In his February 17 column dedicated to ranking the top ten quarterbacks of all-time, Whitlock made one of the most ridiculous, outrageous, and boneheaded statements any sports reporter has made in a very long time.
Whitlock was describing the game-clinching play of Super Bowl XLIV when Saints defensive back Tracy Porter jumped a route being run by Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne, intercepted quarterback Peyton Manning’s pass, and galloped down the field for a touchdown, securing the Saints win. For Indiana folks like me, it was heartbreaking. For the folks of New Orleans…ecstasy.
But Whitlock managed to drive a political wedge into what should have otherwise been left as a thrilling moment of sports history by writing, “A black defensive back outsmarted a beloved white quarterback. I know. That’s a truth many of you can’t handle. It makes you uncomfortable.”
Ok, so where are Al Sharpton, and the rest of the race baiting bunch on this one? Does anyone else remember this little tidbit from 2003?
“My comments this past Sunday were directed at the media and were not racially motivated,” Limbaugh said in a statement issued late Wednesday night. “I offered an opinion. This opinion has caused discomfort to the crew, which I regret.”
One comment, made by a white man, obviously NOT racially motivated versus a statement made by a black man, that was most definitely racially motivated. Can we say ‘double standard’? I knew we could! This column was written nearly 2 weeks ago. Where are the talking heads calling for the resignation of Jason Whitlock from Fox Sports??

Whitlock is hand’s down my favorite sports writer. He isn’t afraid to piss off anyone, and will state his opinion, no matter whose feathers he ruffles. He is NOT a race baiter, at least in my opinion. He has defended Limbaugh, he defened Imus. In fact he often calls out Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson for doing just that. The same four letter network that fired Limbaugh, also fired Whitlock for coming out swinging against two reporters who often appear on the network. The article referenced was debating the merits of Peyton Manning’s legacy
I read the article. I’m wondering when all the those who ramble and mumble when a white man say something anything similar are going to come out of the woodwork.
Shouldn’t Tingles, or Maddow, or Olberdouche be shouting like they usually do?
Well Olbermann is a fellow decendent of that same four letter network. But he isn’t smart enough to go after Whitlock. Maddow would go after him for being sexist, which he is…he often confesses his love of strippers. Read him more often…he will get your blood boiling, but he may also have you laughing so hard you will piss yourself
Heh. The Ick in law, no doubt, knows a WHOLE lot more about him than I do.
Sean, Whitlock is a total race-baiter. There was no need to bring race into that play AT ALL. Reggie Wayne admitted to running a route wrong; the skin color of the man playing D who took advantage has jack and sh– for relevance to the game or to NFL history, unless you’re so soaked in race that’s all you see. The only people in America who saw a white man “outsmarted” by a black man that night were Whitlock and Stormfront–and I expect Stormfront gave up on the NFL when they realized the rosters are 75-80% black every year. Everyone else saw a guy in black and gold catch a ball thrown by a guy in blue and white. Those are the only colors anyone who isn’t a racist needs to see on the football field.
(Whitlock is the guy who wrote the “Colts are RACISTS!!!!” column and used “they hire too many guys with college degrees” and “they drafted a Cuban WR” as “proof.” I’ve been wondering if he got turned down for a job with the Colts at some point (he’s from Indiana originally), because he’s had an irrational and legendary hate on for them for years. Started bashing Manning on draft day and never stopped.)
Lots of writers started bashing Manning the day he was drafted. Manning carried with him a reputation for being a big game choke artist. Whitlock has been critical of Manning no doubt, he has also sung his praises, as evidenced in numerous recent articles he has written. Sorry I don’t buy the race baiter arguement
Gracious sakes. Well, since I don’t really pay much attention to sports, of any kind anymore, I’m gonna let y’all hash this one out all on your own.
Play nice.
