Unfortunately, if you look back in relatively recent history, law abiding folks have given up their means of self defense, without a whole lot of fuss and grumble. Although, currently, I kind of doubt that would go over too well, especially in the U.S. of A.

Hi olbroad’…,
The only problem I have with Mr. Longstreet’s comment “Those facts tell us that when you mandate by law that citizens must give up their guns, law-abiding citizens will do it. They won’t like it. They will grumble and fuss, but in the end — they will give them up.” Huh…. I guess I’ll be joining the “criminal class” because I won’t…. EVER! I guess it will just have to be from my “cold dead hands”…. Maybe sad, but true. Got to stand for something, that and many other things is my “line in the sand”. Thanks for giving me the chance to state my feelings about the issue.

Pools eh? Well hell….reckon we must BAN swimming pools now. Pfft! I’d like to ban stupidity, but….. sigh…

You are right on the money. If we had the right to open carry I bet even more crimes would be stopped and our society would be better. Many people say that is the return of the old west. Well the old west was not that wild if you take the effort to read your history.
Most of these gun grabbers are spoiled people that have not really thought out the entire picture. They are running on emotion not on logic. They have transferred the acts of a few to the object. Why is having steps in your home more deadly than a gun? Why do more kids die in swimming pools than gun accidents? Are they looking for banning those items?
The right to guns – adds weight to our ability to speak out under the First Amendment.
I would encourage all to join the NRA, and your local gun rights state level group. Guns are not political. This is a basic constitutional right. Stand up for your Constitution and take some pride. Don’t let other people take your rights. Watch your representatives. If you see them not doing something right – send email, call them, write letters. Make them aware that they have strayed from the basic ideas of American independence and can do attitude.
