Potential

Do you ever wonder what that murdered baby could have done with his/her life, if only he/she had been allowed to be born. I do, think about it often. No, I’ve never had an abortion, but when I was pregnant, the thought crossed my mind. I was in a real tough spot, and I didn’t know how I’d ever be able to raise a child on my own. Shoot, I was pretty much a child myself, at 20. I even went so far as to make the phone call, asking questions. I’m really glad God grabbed my heart, and stopped me from making the biggest mistake of my life! My daughter is now 35, mother of two beautiful (pain in the hinder) girls. She isn’t famous. She doesn’t make loads of money. But she makes a difference in other people’s lives, including mine. I may give the kid a hard time, tease her unmercifully, but there has never been a doubt in my mind that I made the RIGHT ‘choice’. I AM proud of my daughter!

I wonder which one of those nearly 50,000,000 babies would have grown up, maybe to go into research, find a cure for childhood diabetes. Cancer maybe? Won a Peace Prize for actually promoting peace? Written a book that could change people’s lives? Become a father, who would teach his children right from wrong? Be a pastor, a mentor, a friend to hundreds, or maybe just a few. Touching people’s lives in ways we can’t even begin to understand?  Even a mother who bakes her children cookies?

I’m also grateful that my biological mother didn’t consider a ‘back alley’ abortion too. If she had, I would never have given birth to my wonderful daughter, never had the joy of holding my grandchildren, never learned the beauty of the world, amidst the ugly, met my wonderful husband, or be here to irritate liberals.

So.  What is the ‘potential‘ of an unborn baby?  We won’t know, because someone decided, 2 years before my daughter was born, infanticide was ok.

Don’t forget there is also the potential to grow up and blow up a federal building or fly a plane into a building. It’s a horse apiece.

I’m really not trying to make an argument for or against abortion. I feel it’s a personal matter, and one which my opinion does conform to either left or right. Just sayin’, if you’re going to wonder about the potential lost, you should also acknowledge misery avoided.

    That should read “doesn’t conform.”

It must be really sad to always see the glass half empty.  You seemed to have enough sense to realize, that if there was no evil, you’d never know there was good.
