An FYI Update

Since I forgot to link the actual bill pushing to add a tax to the “complimentary breakfast” nonsense, Why Can’t We Tax Stupidity?, I thought I’d include a little more info, which I also forgot to include.  Yeah.  It’s an old age thing.  Or can I blame it on Monday?  Hmmm…

SB 3901 – introduced by Senator Jim Kyle, D-Memphis, District 28 — Part of Shelby County

HB 3787 – introduce by Rep. Mike Turner, D-Old Hickory, District 51 — Part of Davidson County

What a shocker!  Democrats want to raise taxes during tough economic times.

Specter: Democrats getting ‘angry,’ will pass healthcare bill

Democrats in Congress are getting “angry” enough to push through healthcare reform, Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) said today.

Speaking to reporters after President Barack Obama’s healthcare event outside Philadelphia on Monday, Specter said frustration over Republican “obstruction” is making his caucus determined to move ahead.

Ya know what? I don’t care if the Democrats are getting angry. They can get angry all they want. What I DO care about is the fact they are NOT representing the interests of their constituents. 20% strongly favor this crap. TWENTY PERCENT! The AMERICAN people do not want these morons in D.C., who can’t even control their own lives, control ours. IT’S NOT IN THEIR JOB DESCRIPTION!

“I think there’s a lot more determination in the Congress now to get it passed,” he said, according to a pool report. “I really think there’s sort of reaction on the Democratic side of getting a little angry over the duration and intensity of obstruction and a lot more determination to see it through.”

In this case, the Democrat definition of “obstruction” is the Republicans remember who pays their salaries. Uh…Arlen…. ol’ buddy, ol’ pal??? That would be WE, THE PEOPLE!

“The president’s providing for more fiery leadership now,” Specter said.

“That’s the most fiery I’ve seen him since the early campaign,” he added. “When I was listening to him, I wished that he had given that in the State of the Union. If it’s the State of the Union he would have reached a lot more people.”

Oh, I’m quite sure Obama is all fired up. There are still a few folks who believe his lies, but the number is getting smaller and smaller.

Why Can’t We Tax Stupidity?

Hotels: “Not the right time” for tax on free breakfast

A chance to start the day at the breakfast bar inside Country Inn & Suites Cedar Bluff is one of the ways the west Knoxville hotel gets customers to stay the night.

“Complimentary breakfasts are a big draw. A lot of people travel and want their breakfasts included in their rate. That’s what we do,” said Country Inn and Suites Cedar Bluff General Manager Joe Valentino.

Who comes up with this stuff? Seriously!

Though all their hotels offer free breakfast, the meals’ cost get reflected in the room rates. The complimentary breakfasts cost his company more than a thousand dollars a week.

“[It costs] four to five thousand dollars a month for your typical focus-service hotel,” Valentino said.

That price tag may soon increase.

Ok, first off, there is really no such thing as a “free lunch”. Or, in this case, “free” complimentary breakfast. Does it not occur to the bozo who came up with this not so bright idea that the cost of the food is already added into the cost of the room, and therefore, has ALREADY been taxed.

State lawmakers are considering a bill that would add sales tax to the free breakfasts.

Valentino points out that his company pays sales tax when the food is bought.

The proposed legislation would also tax it when it’s eaten.

Are they going to tax it when it comes out, as well as goes in?  Oh, wait a minute.  They already do that too!  Every time you flush, you are paying tax on the utilities, etc.

According to the Tennessee Department of Revenue Commissioner Reagan Farr, “This proposal prevents erosion of our sales tax base because of judicial decisions and sets Tennessee back in line with the majority of states collecting this revenue.”

You mean Tennessee is suppose to double, and triple tax visitors to the state? Oh yeah, makes LOADS of sense. Will bring right on in, won’t it. Big business when you tax your average family heading to Dollywood, into having them rethink their plans.

Farr says he doesn’t expect the cost will affect consumers, but industry insiders say the opposite.

“It has to be passed on to the consumer. You can’t continue to absorb those costs or you’re out of business,” said Knoxville Tourism Alliance Executive Director Jill Thompson.

Since I’m one of those people who never eats the “free” breakfast, do I get taxed too? Why? I’m not making use of the food. Why should I pay an extra tax?

Thompson argues the added sales tax would soften the state’s competitive edge in the tourism industry, and at the very least, would pose new challenges to companies like Valentino’s which have already taken an economic hit.

The whole country is taking an economic hit. It’s affecting how people travel, and take vacations. They are staying closer to home. Add more taxes, and you might find people, not only staying closer to home, but at home.

“This is not the right time to do it. I don’t think there is a right time to do it. This will definitely impact decisions we make in the future,” Valentino said.

You can NOT tax your way into prosperity! I keep trying to talk the Mr into heading to Gatlinburg for a few days, or maybe a week. Lots to see over that way, and it’s really pretty. If we have to pay an extra tax at the motel, I’m rethinking my harassment about this. He’ll be pleased.

The Color Of Babies

CNN Blog Attacks Black Pro-Lifers, Continues Liberal Trend

While anti-choice activists may condemn the location of family planning clinics, such as Planned Parenthood, in these communities, this condemnation is itself further evidence of their cynicism – and of their indifference to the actual health care needs of low-income women (a disproportionate number of whom are African-American). The majority of health care services provided by Planned Parenthood, for instance, are non-abortion related and include cancer screening, STD testing, and other preventive health services. We may agree to disagree about the morality of abortion but I do hope there is no legitimate disagreement about the need for low-income women to have access to these health resources.

There is yet another element of this campaign that I find particularly unsettling. Implicit in this strategy is the assumption that the womb of an African-American woman is somehow “community property” – and that our family planning and reproductive decisions cannot properly be based upon individual choices and circumstances but must instead take into account the need to “propagate the race.” It seems as if anti-choice strategists are suggesting that African-American women need to be saved from themselves and their own freely made choices – or worse yet, that the African-American community needs to be saved from its women. Forgive me, but the time for that sort of racial paternalism is long since past.

There are real issues of concern affecting African-Americans today – inadequate access to health care, disproportionate incarceration rates, a substandard public education system (which is the only option for many of its children), and numerous others. Cynical attempts to exploit those problems so as to gain advantage in a contentious debate are no substitute for the real attention our community deserves.

You can go read the entire thing, but I wanted to point out the absurdity, that hits me. This isn’t about the color of a baby’s skin. This is about the BABY!  Does this woman really believe that Planned Parenthood is such a noble organization?  Seriously?  When you put such abortion mills in a community, that should speak volumes.  But I guess the left, no matter the color, doesn’t seem to understand this.

No one is suggesting that “African-American women need to be saved from themselves”.  (There’s that hyphen again.) I, personally, would suggest that ALL American women ‘need to saved’ from the evil that has permeated our society.  Convincing a woman that her child is nothing more than an inconvenience, or a mass of tissue, or a tumor, isn’t evil?  If this woman wants to do something for her community, then perhaps she should take a step back, and look at the REAL problems facing it, and every other community.  This is beyond a color issue.  This is a society issue.  The “Great Society” gimme mind set.  The “I don’t have to work hard to achieve success, cuz YOU OWE ME!” attitude.  The “It’s ok if I act like a slut, and get pregnant every other month cuz someone will “fix it”!” mentality.

To quote The Socialist Appeal: We also stand for the right of a woman to dispose of her body as she sees fit. Well, if SHE wants to abort herself, that’s her prerogative I suppose. But this isn’t just about HER, this is about someone else’s life. The life of a child. A separate entity.  It’s not her’s to destroy, but to nurture.

Perhaps this is the lefist/progressive/socialist/communist agenda, to ‘kill God”? God CREATED life. Destroy life, destroy God. Not acceptable!

“Comprehensive”? To Whom?

The NEW Amnesty Bill
Amnesty For Illegal Aliens On The Way Back To Congress
‘Comprehensive’ Immigration Bill That Includes Amnesty.
‘Pathway to Citizenship’ for Illegal Aliens.

by J. D. Longstreet

Just a couple of tiny snippets:

Well, this week, the President will be meeting with Shumer and Graham for a progress report on the immigration bill they have been working on.

I think we all are aware of what “revised” means to the Obama Regime. Think ObamaCare and ObamaCare 2.0. The latter was supposed to be the revised bill. It was, in fact, the original bill with a couple, or three, Republican suggestions thrown in to make it more palatable to the GOP and the American people. But, as nobody has actually seen a hard copy of the bill, doubt remains that ObamaCare 2.0 even exists.

(…)

I shouldn’t have to ask this question, but it seems I must. Have you stopped to consider how many millions more will pile onto “the dole” US taxpayers will have to support if this NEW amnesty bill passes? 12 million is a drop in the bucket to the REAL figure, which you are NOT going to hear bandied about by this administration, nor the democrat/progressive/socialists in the Congress.

Just as we believe the REAL unemployment figure is closer to 20% than it is to the 9.7% being reported by the government, and the number of jobs lost last month, we believe, is closer to 50,000 than it is to the 36,000 the government reported, we believe the real figure representing illegal aliens in America today is closer to 36 million than to the 12 million, or so, the government has been reporting.

My first response:  Are they flippin’ insane?  Then I realized, this is a rhetorical question. Of course they are. No one who has an tiny fraction of sanity would even consider a move like this, so they must be insane.

Second response: Lindsay Graham doesn’t like working in Washington.  Throw in this, and you’ve got a veritable Democrat in RINO clothing.  Wait a minute, I’m repeating myself.  Hmm….

I know, I’m going to get all the usual “raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacist” crap, but I don’t give a flip. Call me what you want, but when it comes down to MY home, I don’t much care for people breaking in, and stealing what little I’ve got left.  Got it?

What it all boils down to…. “We will give you a vote, if you vote for us!”  It’s a power thing.  Had absolutely NOTHING to do with all those ‘poor people who are just searching for a better life’!  Yeah, at the tax payer’s expense in quite a few cases.  Oh, I know there are some who really DO want to work hard, provide for their families, but those folks are the ones who usually go through the LEGAL process, and are pushed aside in favor of their ILLEGAL ‘cousins’.

J.D. goes on:

No, they are not nuts. As we have learned, they just don’t care what you and I think, or want, or NOT want, as the case may be. We don’t count with the current government. They are far smarter than we. They know far better than we what is good for us.There is very little fear of our dissenting votes in Washington, anymore.

The progressive/socialists have managed to secure the votes of the less literate among us in such large numbers as to override our dissenting votes. We warned, months ago, that the progressive/socialists had dispatched armies of “helpers/organizers” into the field to register “new” voters from among those whose livelihood depends on the government check they receive the first of each month. And it worked in 2008.

We can NOT let it work again in 2010, or 2012. If we don’t put a stop to this reckless behavior of our so called representatives, the United States of America, will likely, be no more. And that’s just not acceptable!

Notice A Difference?

Once upon a time, dissent, the left told us, was patriotic. This is their idea of dissent:

This is ours:

We want to vote them out. THEY wanted to “bomb” them out.  The next time someone wants to lob any sort of accusation on this blog towards any conservative, they really better have their facts straight.
