When Will TN Step Up?
Tennessee officials may sue over health reform
As 12 states announced plans to challenge the constitutionality of the health-care overhaul, Tennessee officials say they are weighing a similar lawsuit.
Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper’s office said in a statement Monday that Cooper had instructed his staff to “begin a thorough and detailed analysis of the health care reform legislation, which, of course, may change further through the reconciliation process.”
“As always in this office, a decision to file a lawsuit will be made after consultation with the affected departments of state government, careful deliberation regarding legal precedents, and only upon a determination that litigation is proper, prudent, and timely,” the statement said. “In the meantime, as Tennesseans have long respected, this office will be conscientious to avoid engagement in on-going political debates.
I’ve been waiting all day to hear that the TN Attorney General is joining with other states to put a stop to this fiasco, this TAX & CONTROL bill that has been shoved down our throats, contrary to the wishes of the MAJORITY of Americans! Well, I might have found out why Cooper is being wishy washy.
So, the Attorney General of the state of Tennessee is an Obama supporter? Isn’t that interesting.

Disgusting! But we’ll put Robert Cooper on the list of people to defeat next time! But do not worry – there are enough States to make an impression.
Well PH, I pray you are right. But it sure would be nice if a supposed conservative state could actually step up, like a conservative state.
Mississippi AG is a Dem. Gov. Barbour will file if AG doesn’t. We don’t want to be left behind.
Yeah, y’all have Barbour. We have Bredesen.
Here in NC we have a dem AG and Gov. I don’t think we will be filing…we might have to move south of the border (to south carolina that is). Hi Kate!
Howdy ma’am.
Yeah, odds are, NC won’t be stepping up to the plate either. sigh… I remember back when most Southern states would have been appalled by this kind of blatant abuse. I’m thinking way too many libs moved South? Just a thought.
Just came from a POET (Patriots-of-East-Tennessee) meeting and we discussed at length about a call for the states to do their duty to the citizens via Article V Constitution. “It is the Constitutional duty of the legislatures of the several states and any elected representatives therein to use the power given them by Article V of the US Constitution whenever the Supremacy Clause or any other part of the Constitution is used to infringe upon the rights of the several states and/or the people living in those states. Why else would part twp of this Article be there.” I would like to know what P/H and olbroad think of this. See web site: foavc.org or wikipedia under ARTICLE FIVE OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION. Thanks for your input.
Thanks for stopping by!
I’m not sure what you are asking. P/H is the legal scholar. I’m just an ol’ broad with an attitude, and opinion, on just about everything.
The Republican Att’y General of Virginia is filing (or filed today) the lawsuit against obamacare.
Kate, you forgot to add that you also have a beautiful pink petticoat!
We don’t want a constitutional convention (con con)! I’ll address this in class.
LOL Glad ya like it P/H. Was seriously itchy though.
Nope…we don’t need a CC. We already have a perfectly good Constitution, that would do great things IF the ‘powers that be would follow it.
