Another Member Of “The Clueless Brigade” Heard From
Sometimes, you come across something so ignorant, ya just have to respond. I came across this letter in USA Today, and felt compelled to clue this “gentleman” in on a few things.
This country should give the “Tea Party” exactly what it wants: No more taxes (“Yes, I love taxes,” The Forum, Thursday).
Then, of course, all other services that are paid for by everyone else’s taxes shouldn’t be made available to members of the Tea Party movement.
That would include Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits, our highway system, police protection, fire protection, public schools, libraries, and all other government agencies and entities that receive government funds.
We would soon see how long the Tea Party would survive in its own tax-free world.

It’s quite obvious that both the author of the original column, and Mr Rodriguez know NOTHING about the Tea Party movement at all!
No one has EVER claimed not to be in favor of some taxes, for national defense for example, or upkeep of the interstate system. This was the intent of the Founders.
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
And believe me when I tell you, we are nothing, if not PRO Constitution. The word TEA comes from Taxed Enough Already….T.E.A. Get it? It’s really not complicated, but some folks just have to have things spelled out for them.
Now, a few of those items he named, are not typically paid for by federal tax dollars, but local funds. I won’t quibble about them. What Mr Rodriguez fails to grasp is that 47% of Americans don’t even PAY taxes, which means the burden is left to the other 53%. Oh, I won’t dispute those 47% file an income tax return (at least I hope they do) but not only do they get all the money paid in from their income back, a large chunk even gets MORE than they paid, by way of tax credits. Money they actually don’t deserve coming out of other hard working taxpayer’s pockets.
Mr Rodriguez also fails to mention the many who are on some kind of aid or another, AFDC or the like, have no income other than the aid, and STILL gets a few thousand on a check that says U.S. Treasury. By the way…WE are the U.S. Treasury.
And then we have Social Security and Medicare. Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, NO, I do NOT want Granny to starve or die. However, these are two federal programs that should NEVER have been implemented, and should be fazed out ASAP. Instead of saving for retirement and rainy day illnesses, many in our society have become totally dependent on these programs. Which, if I’m not mistaken, was the intent when FDR pushed them. Both of these programs are broke. There is no money. There was NEVER a ‘lock box’. All those people who are paying into both right now, the 20 somethings, will get NOTHING in return.
So, you see Mr Rodriguez, you are way off base. You should stop listening to the main stream media, and attempt to educate yourself. It’s not paying taxes so much that we mind. It’s what those taxes are being used to fund that are pissing us off! A “stimulus bill” that is far from stimulating, a “jobs bill” that creates NO jobs, bank and car company bailouts because someone has forgotten that NO ONE, and NOTHING is too big to fail, and this tax and control “health care bill”, just to name a few. It’s a fact….like it or not….the higher the taxes, the few jobs to be had. Lower taxes, more jobs, more revenue for the federal gubmint. Once again….not that complicated.
Something else, perhaps you’d like to investigate, while you are educating yourself. The Tax Code, ALL 20 volumes of it!
I’ll bet you, Mr Rodriguez, dollars to donuts, that us evil capitalist types would survive a WHOLE lot better than you “head up Obama’s rump” types, on any given day. Tell you what….all the free market, Constitution loving, capitalist can move to the Southern part of the country, and all you socialist supporting Obamites can move to the northern part, and you can have California for free, and we’ll see which section thrives, and which one falls flat on it’s collective ass! K?
Well let me see, here in San Diego we pay our local and state taxes to pay for services we DO NOT receive. They’ve gotten rid of essential police services. Closed down fire departments. Left parks to lay fallow. So what exactly ARE my taxes go to other than line the pockets of worthless government employees and their f-ed up pensions????????

Last I checked, those are run by LOCAL governments, such as town, city, state, county, etc. NOT the federal govt.

The Tax Foundation reports that 20% of Americans now get 75% of their income from the federal government and another 20% get 45% of their income from the government.
President Obama’s stimulus law will add nearly $800 billion in new means-tested welfare spending over the next decade. That means about $22,500 for every poor person in the United States, which will cost over $10,000 for each family that pays federal income taxes.
According to the Tax Foundation, married taxpayers pay three-fourths of all federal income taxes, whereas two-thirds of single parents who file as head-of-household pay no income tax at all. According to a Heritage Foundation report, taxpayers (mostly those who are married) will spend more than $300 billion providing welfare aid to single parents (mostly women).
the unprecedented decline in marriage and the increase in illegitimacy are the major causes of our bloated government and its gigantic welfare spending.
In 2008, 40.6% of children born in the United States were born outside of marriage; that’s 1,720,000 children. This is not, as the media try to tell us, a teenage problem.
Only 7% of those illegitimate babies were born to girls under age 18, and over three-fourths were born to women over age 20. The problem is the collapse of marriage as the social institution responsible for the costs of the care of children.
Gary, I blame my generation for a lot of this. It was the ‘baby boomers’ who decided it was ok to be a slut, have babies, and live off the public. It’s embarrassing to admit, but yes, we are the cause. Promoting promiscuity of tv started a long time ago, but from what I’ve seen of so called family shows now….we were just the tip of the iceberg. It’s also up to us to stop it!
