An Ol' Broad's Ramblings
Another Disturbing Bill
John McCain has a bill, S 3081, that is more than just a little disturbing. The short title, ‘Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010’, sounds innocent enough. My first thought was that it dealt with REAL terrorists, which may have been the original intent, but after reading through the bill, I’m not so sure.
bel·lig·er·ent (b-ljr-nt)
adj.
1. Inclined or eager to fight; hostile or aggressive.
2. Of, pertaining to, or engaged in warfare.
n.
One that is hostile or aggressive, especially one that is engaged in war.
Now, this word could, quite easily, describe a LOT of people, right here in the USA. There are many types of war:
war (wôr)
n.
1. a. A state of open, armed, often prolonged conflict carried on between nations, states, or parties. b. The period of such conflict. c. The techniques and procedures of war; military science.
2. a. A condition of active antagonism or contention: a war of words; a price war. b. A concerted effort or campaign to combat or put an end to something considered injurious: the war against acid rain.
Aren’t a great many of us waging the type of war described in definition #2, A and B? I would have to say, yes….yes, we are.
There is much in this bill that should cause concern, but Section 3 is what I’d like to look at right now.
SEC. 3. INTERROGATION AND DETERMINATION OF STATUS OF SUSPECTED UNPRIVILEGED ENEMY BELLIGERENTS.
(a) Establishment of Interrogation Groups-
(1) ESTABLISHMENT AUTHORIZED- The President is authorized to establish an interagency team for purposes as follows:
Another bureaucracy? More tax payer funds? Farther down, (d)(2)(E):
(E) Such other matters as the President considers appropriate.
What other matters? This opens up one hell of a can of worms, one that should NEVER be opened! It’s always possible I’m reading this wrong, but I don’t think so. This one phrase seems to allow the president, ANY president, to imprison, citizen or not, those he deems to be “at war” with his/her policies. Not a real good idea, Senator McCain.

JD Hayworth ftw!
Likin’ JD more and more!
Since it’s late, and the brain has already shut down…. “ftw”?
Hah! I know the feeling…I work in an acronym-rich environment myself, and I have to ask somebody once a week at least what some newfangled cluster of letters means. I think “tl;dr” was the last one I needed help on. (It means “too long; didn’t read.”)
Anyhoo, “ftw” means “for the win.”
I hope the the weekend’s good to you!
McCain is surely a true patriot and God bless him for what he’s given to this country.
BUTT!
Good golly his politics drive me loopy! He lost any political support I might ever have given him with that genius bit of legislation named McCain-Feingold. Beck says one of McCain’s big heroes is Teddy Roosevelt who had an awful lot of Progressive ideas too, so I suppose I shouldn’t be so surprised. It just seems like he doesn’t think things thru to their logical conclusion & ends up with all these half-assed ideas that sound ok right up to the time they bite you right in the half-ass. IMO, that young man needs to be given the opportunity to build a library if ya’know what I mean.
(and don’t even get me started on his dimwitted daughter)
@Dan Ooooooooh! Well now, it makes sense! LOL Code speak!
@Allen I’m with ya on the McCain/Feingold fiasco. I honestly thought Bush would veto it. Found out a LOT about him then too.
It appears to me that McCain’s ‘principles’ change with the political wind. It is definitely time for him to hang up his spurs! His daughter? Dumb as a bag of hair!
McCain is NOT a patriot. You can wave the flag all day and rub your Vietnam experience in everyones face as well, and that does not make you a patriot. A patriot is someone whos actions (especially when youre an elected official!!!) are always to better and benefit your country. McCain has shown time and again his actions are only going to run us into ruin, he takes no care in what his constituants want, and frankly I think hes a complete moron who desperately needs to retire for the sake of the US. I actually worked for the McCain campaign last election and I found out firsthand they didnt really care about winning.
Just like he doesnt really care about this country. He is just working his little RINO agendas, to hell with everyone else.
Your definition of ‘patriot’ sounds a bit rigid Shadow & to say he doesn’t care about his country is a hell of a vicious thing to say. I just can’t go there with you. I think he probably loves his country very much, he’s just not terribly bright, so he gets bamboozled by the more sophisticated lawyer/shark types that have taken over our government. Then his temper and stubbornness get involved and all sorts of bad ideas come spilling out.
Speaking of brain power, it also seems pretty obvious who wears the pants in the family when he’s @ home. That bit during the election about ‘how many houses do you own?’ was freakin’ hilarious. He didn’t have clue cuz his wife is clearly the one taking care of the family finances and has single-handedly amassed the McCain fortune. (Oy, if I could find a wife that bright and beautiful I think I could rule the world. or at least feel like it!)
Overall, McCain seems like a good man. The sort I’d like to sit down and have a beer with & maybe watch a game. A better follower than leader tho and I certainly agree that it’s time for him to retire.
