A Cool Rest Area

17 May 2010, 3:23 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Travel.

Well, it appears the internet is working right well in Murphy this time around.  Well, at least, so far.  :D

We had to make the required pit stop, after a large cup of cappuccino, shortly before we arrived at the motel. Hey, when nature calls that strong….YOU STOP! I have to tell you, that is the coolest looking rest area I’ve ever seen. Very nature oriented! Ok, on the inside, it looks just like any other public toity place, but outside, kind of like a mountain cabin.

As beautiful as the mountains are, unfortunately, the area has a link to one of the saddest, and cruelest, events in American history.

It is a quite pretty area.

But I’m still trying to figure this out:  Huh?  Why is there glass in the stream?  How did it get there?

Now, call me an idjit, but if there is glass in the stream, wouldn’t there also be a sign saying, “Don’t throw glass in the stream!”?  Nope.  Not there.  Not that I wanted to go wading down there, but fer pete’s sake….  Unless someone set off a nuke in the vicinity, I can’t imagine how else it would have gotten there.  :?

Well, it’s been light blogging, and it’s gonna be even lighter the next couple of days.  Tonight we’re staying at the same motel that had a crappy internet connection in Murphy, so I’m going to be real surprised if it’s any different this time.  Oh well, I’m pretty sure I won’t die of blogging withdrawal.  :P   I hope!

Laws, Illegals, and Tennessee

17 May 2010, 7:40 am. Comments Off. Filed under Borders, Crime, Illegals.

TN bill would require those arrested to prove citizenship

State senators are debating a bill that would require people who are arrested to show they are American citizens or face being reported to immigration officials.

But a coalition of sheriffs and immigration groups are pushing back, saying the law will be costly, ineffective and likely to lead to wrongfully reporting citizens and lawful residents.

Why do these people project their own ignorance on others? Just because they are too stupid to pour piss out of a boot, doesn’t mean every one else is. If there are actually REAL sheriffs in this coalition, has any of them thought about the cost of NOT getting illegals out of the country? Do these sheriffs know that aiding and abetting criminal activity is against the law? I won’t even mention the “immigration groups”. They are nothing more than whining socialists, hell bent on the destruction of this country. Note the L.A. teacher, and this little number:

Do these people actually believe it’s ok to be invaded by criminal elements? Has any of them noticed the deaths caused by illegals, with no license, drunk out of their minds? Is that ok? How about the drugs that are being brought in over the border? Shall I mention the Muslim extremists who have been sneaking in, paying a large sum of money to coyotes, attempting to blend in with the rest of the illegals? What about the cost of health care? Hospital emergency rooms used as a free clinic, for a case of the sniffles, and God knows what other diseases that are being brought in from a population that hasn’t been vaccinated for the simplest of childhood diseases? Who do they think picks up THAT tab? Do they believe illegals pay those bills?

The Senate took up Thursday a long-dormant bill meant to combat illegal immigration by requiring jailers to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement about anyone who cannot prove they are in the country legally when they are arrested.

And the problem with this is…..???? If you go to another country, say….oh, I don’t know…MEXICO….and you can’t prove you are in the country legally, what do they do?

1. If you migrate to this county, you must speak the native language

2. You have to be a professional or an investor. No unskilled workers allowed.

3. There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools, no special ballots for elections, all government business will be conducted in our language.

4. Foreigners will NOT have the right to vote no matter how long they are here.

5 Foreigners will NEVER be able to hold political office.

6. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, or other government assistance programs.

7. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount equal to 400 times the daily minimum wage.

8. If foreigners do come and want to buy land that will be okay, BUT options will be restricted. You are not allowed waterfront property. That is reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.

9. Foreigners may not protest; no demonstrations, no waving a foreign flag, no political organizing, no badmouthing our president or his policies, if you do you will be sent home.

10. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be hunted down and sent straight to jail.

If other countries, let’s say…..MEXICO….has such harsh penalties, is it too much to ask to have similar ones right here?  I’m all for immigration….LEGAL immigration.  If you are legal, prove it!  No, it’s not the ‘papers please’ BS the left is spouting.  It’s the common sense solution to an ever growing problem.  If I’m stopped by a cop, they ask for ID.  If I am arrested, they run a check on me.  Should an ILLEGAL invader have special privileges? You want ‘fair’? Try not being a criminal, and come in the front door, where you will be welcomed and aided in assimilating to your new home. I’ll even help teach you the language.

Besides creating a paperwork burden, the law might lead law enforcement to report citizens and legal residents who just did not happen to have a passport, birth certificate or other identification on them when they are arrested, say opponents.

“It’s coming on summertime, and people are going to be arrested in bathing suits or shorts, and they’re just not going to have ID with them,” said Sumner County Sheriff Bob Barker, chairman of the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association’s legislative committee.

I wonder what the paperwork burden is for the death of a child, killed by an ILLEGAL drunk driver? You get in your vehicle to drive to a pool, or a lake, and don’t have ID, then you are an idiot. I don’t care what you are wearing. Women carry purses. It’s a girl thing. Men have wallets. If you can carry a few bucks, you can damn sure carry your ID.

Amendments adopted by the Senate on Thursday would strip out the sheriff’s departments covering roughly half of the state’s residents, including those living in Tennessee’s four biggest counties, from the law’s impact. Senators said they were moving to strip out their counties at the request of local sheriffs.

What good does it do to exempt the four biggest counties? Typically, that’s where illegals congregate. Why not just say, “We are law enforcement officers, and we don’t want to enforce the law!” As much as I admire LEOs, I have little respect for any who can’t be bothered to protect LEGAL citizens!

I commend my state Representative, Vance Dennis, and state Senator, Delores Gresham, for stepping up!  I severely CONDEMN those senators who are throwing in the amendments to exempt their counties from enforcing both the FEDERAL and state laws!

Greece Considering Legal Action Against U.S. Banks for Crisis

Greece is considering taking legal action against U.S. investment banks that might have contributed to the country’s debt crisis, Prime Minister George Papandreou said.

“I wouldn’t rule out that this may be a recourse,” Papandreou said, in response to questions about the role of U.S. banks in the crisis, in an interview on CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS.” The program, scheduled for broadcast today, was taped on May 13. Neither Papandreou nor Zakaria mentioned any banks by name.

U.S. stocks fell and the euro slumped on concern that Europe wouldn’t be able to contain the debt crisis stemming from Greece. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index declined 1.9 percent May 14, while the euro fell below $1.24 for the first time since November 2008.

Papandreou said the decision on whether to go after U.S. banks will be made after a Greek parliamentary investigation into the cause of the crisis.

Is no one responsible for their own stupidity anymore? Is everything ALWAYS somebody else’s fault?  I suppose it had nothing to do with their union/socialist form of governing, right?  “Give me more, or we’ll go on strike!”  Ok, you’ve got more.  “MORE!”  Ok, more tax dollars.  “MORE!!”  There is no more!  There must be cuts.  “STRIKE!  FIRE BOMB! MURDER!”  And it all the fault of banks in the U.S?  Uh huh.

European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet said May 6 that he was concerned about speculation in bond markets using credit default swaps. “By first buying the CDS and then trying to affect market sentiment by going short on the underlying bond, investors can make large profits,” he said.

Credit-default swaps are derivatives that pay the buyer face value if a borrower — a country or a company — defaults. In exchange, the swap seller gets the underlying securities or the cash equivalent. Traders in naked credit-default swaps buy insurance on bonds they don’t own.

So, someone is making bets on Greece succeeding or failing? Isn’t that what speculators do? Kind of like going to Vegas?

In the CNN interview, Papandreou said many in the international community have engaged in “Greek bashing” and find it easy “to scapegoat Greece.” He said Greeks “are a hard-working people. We are a proud people.”

“We have made our mistakes,” Papandreou said. “We are living up to this responsibility. But at the same time, give us a chance. We’ll show you.”

I don’t want to dispute what this guy says, but from what I’ve seen, all those who have been striking don’t look all that “hard-working”, unless you call destruction of property and murder working hard. If the fire bomb fits…… The entitlement mentality is the cause of Greece’s financial woes. Pray we can prevent such from happening here, and reverse the trend.

Facebook Sucks Pt 2

I was able to get on Facebook on my phone, until just now.  I have been disabled, for no other reason than I asked why I couldn’t connect from a different location?  This had never been an issue before, but now, they think they are protecting me?  By asking ridiculous questions about pictures I’ve never seen from someone’s ‘album’.

Eric Cantor has launched a new website.  YOU can vote on what needs to be cut from the gubmints budget!

This is kind of cool.  But what are the odds that anyone in Washington actually gives a damn what we think?  Yeah…slim to none.  Why would they start listening to us now?  They sure haven’t for the past 18 months!

Well, check it out anyway, and ‘vote’ for what you want cut from the federal budget!

We ARE At War….

16 May 2010, 7:07 am. Comments Off. Filed under Opinion, Religion of Pieces.

….with radical Islam.  And honestly, given half the chance, there are more following that religion that would join in, if they hadn’t been so cowed by it, and it’s ‘leaders’. Star Parker has a terrific column, pointing out some of the many flaws of this administration.

Who is governing America?

Attorney General Eric Holder testified the other day before the House Judiciary Committee. Republican Rep. Lamar Smith asked him what seemed to be a pretty simple question.

Regarding the perpetrators in the last three terror attacks (two, thank God, unsuccessful) on our homeland (Fort Hood, the Christmas Day bomber and the Times Square bomber), Smith asked our attorney general: “Do you feel these individuals … might have been incited to take the actions they did because of radical Islam?”

Holder feigned to not understand. “Because of …?”

Smith: “Because of radical Islam.”

Holder: “There are a variety of reasons people do these things.”

Smith re-worded the same question and re-asked it six times, with Holder refusing to acknowledge what is as obvious as the fact that I am typing these words and you are reading them – that every major incident of terror of recent years has been performed by Muslims and that all of them associate their particular theology with their acts of terror.

The real question today is who is governing America and what exactly is the agenda of those who sit in the seat of power of our own country?

Read the rest here.

When I heard that terrorism had dropped from #1, to #7 in the list of things Americans are most concerned with, I was shocked, but not as much as I should have been.  We’ve become quite oblivious, thanks to much of the MSM and the current administration.  But that hasn’t stopped the attacks, has it. In fact, they seem to have increased in a rather short period of time.  Gee, I wonder if that’s because those who declared war on US look at U.S. news, and listen to the honchos in the administration and think, “Gosh, they really don’t care if we blow up people, let’s go for it!  Allahu akbar!”

Charlotte Media Is Amazing

15 May 2010, 10:17 pm. Comments Off. Filed under 1st Amendment.

And I don’t mean that in a good way. 95% of print media is so far left, journalism isn’t even a factor anymore. Well, one in particular in Charlotte puts Newsweek to shame in it’s slant. I find it amazing anyone actually reads this rag. I’m talking about The Charlotte Observer. Here are just a few example of their coverage of the NRA shindig, which has brought the city somewhere in the vicinity of $25,000,000.

There was the op-ed I commented on yesterday, of course.

There’s this piece about Sarah Palin.  9,000?  I’m fairly sure, since the arena holds nearly 20,000, there were more than 9K.  Either way, it was a rather disjointed piece of writing, reminiscent of a ‘live blogging’ type thing.

And this little number about the 20 protesters is priceless.  Some of the comments are fairly entertaining as well, but thankfully, there are a few people in the area capable of rational thought.

Instead of concentrating on this evening’s event (which we skipped), it seems the author of this piece couldn’t come up with enough material, he had to merge the previous two I listed, into this one.  10,000?  Just the lines I saw starting at 5:00 had to be more than that, and the buses just kept on coming.  We also saw a large number of stragglers, so, just my opinion, I still think lefty purveyors of semi news have problem with numbers.

Let’s not forget those ‘letters to the editor‘.  Are there really so many mind numbed robots?

The only piece I came across that wasn’t negative in some way or another, was this one.  Read it for yourself.  There is such a thing as smiling tears.

NOT A Happy Camper!

15 May 2010, 8:19 pm. 4 Comments. Filed under 2nd Amendment.

The Mr and I got all decked out, in a business casual manner, made our way downtown/uptown, or whatever they call it, thinking we are going to having dinner with like minded 2nd Amendment supporters.  Once there, we see this ridiculously long line of people, dressed in shorts and t-shirts, waiting to get in.  I’m a bit confused by the manner of dress of the majority of the folks, but didn’t think much of it, until I got to talking to a lady who was sitting next to me, in the shade, on a concrete curb.  (The Mr got christened by a bird.)  It turns out, we spent a small fortune, not for dinner and speakers, but to sit in a freakin’ arena, the same place we sat yesterday, for way too many hours.  The more we talked about it, the more livid the Mr got.

When we bought our tickets, it offered a variety of ‘levels’, including the purchase of an entire TABLE!  Now, if they offer tables, doesn’t that mean there is food involved, as there were for EVERY previous NRA convention?  You’d think so, wouldn’t you.  Well, someone, in all their brilliance, found out that Charlotte didn’t have the facilities, nor a catering capabilities to handle such a large crowd.  So, we paid a ridiculous amount of money to sit in the bleachers?  To add insult to injury, not only were they not providing the expected rubber chicken dinner, but if you did want food, you had to PAY for it!  Excuse me?  I don’t freakin’ think so!

When the powers that be at the NRA realized the problem, why didn’t they cut off the sale of the banquet tickets?  Most would have enough sense to include the phrase, “Seating is limited.  Order your tickets early!” or something to that effect.  We DID order ours early!

After much discussion, we decided neither of us wanted to sit in this place, again, and starve.  So, we blew it off, came back to the motel, changed clothes, and found a terrific Greek restaurant.  On our way back to the train, we ran into a couple of “official” NRA types.  The Mr didn’t hold back.  He shared his opinion with those two gentlemen, quite graphically.

We want a refund!  At least half would do!  Trust me, they’ll be getting an earful, in the not too distant future.  We don’t mind giving the NRA money now and then, to support the cause, but this was inefficiency at its ‘finest’!

There is an upside.  At least I hope so, unless someone messed that up too?!  Ted Nugent is doing his seminar tomorrow!

Saturday Afternoon – NOT Doing Any Laundry

15 May 2010, 1:46 pm. 2 Comments. Filed under Just Cuz.

This is the time I’m usually getting my laundry done, and snooping through the blogs for good stuff to link.  Well, not today.  I’m busy getting all gussied up for the big shindig this evening over at Time Warner whatever it’s called….dinner with Glenn Beck, Newt Gingrich, and a few other folks.

The gussying isn’t helping.  It’s still me….short, fat, old and wrinkled!  Sure wish I could just wear jeans and a t-shirt.  SO much easier!

What Part Of ILLEGAL…… (pt 9million and some)

The nation glares at Arizona

Arizona just won’t learn. Two thousand and ten isn’t the first time that the state has invited a boycott by pursuing a culturally insensitive (or openly racist) policy. Led by Stevie Wonder, Americans boycotted the state in 1987 and 1988, after Gov. Evan Mecham (R) rescinded Arizona’s recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. “You folks don’t need another holiday,” he explained to a group of African American community leaders. “What you folks need are jobs.” Mecham then proceeded to throw gasoline on the fire by defending the use of the word “pickaninny” to describe African American children.

Actually, it’s the leftist non journalists that just won’t learn.  While Mecham made himself look like a total ass, Gov. Brewer is trying to protect the LEGAL citizens of her state.  Since the federal government won’t do it’s job, someone has to, and it’s about time someone stepped up to the plate, and hit a home run!

Though Arizonan public officials have toned down their verbal idiocy since Mecham and the MLK Day controversy, Americans of every stripe have ratcheted up the outrage that once again bears down on the Grand Canyon State. This week, the Los Angeles City Council voted 13 to 1 to ban most official city travel to Arizona and to avoid future contracts with Arizonan companies. With its resolution, Los Angeles joins San Francisco and Oakland as major cities that have passed similar anti-Arizona resolutions. In Illinois, school officials at Highland Park High School in suburban Chicago have decided not to let their girls basketball team travel to Arizona to compete in a tournament, and the Illinois House has passed a resolution condemning the law. And the upcoming NBA Western Conference Finals series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns promises to be electric for reasons that have nothing to do with the enticing Kobe Bryant vs. Steve Nash backcourt matchup.

When are the lame stream media going to tone down THEIR idiocy?  The massive stupidity that has been espoused by, not just the media, but ignorant politicians is getting down right pathetic.  For a school to deny it’s players a chance to play in a championship game is politicizing something that is NOT political at all, is beyond “rational debate”.  It’s lunacy.  I wonder where Los Angeles thinks their power will come from if Arizona decides to shut off the tap?

So America finds itself divided, with seething glares and stares directed at Phoenix from all corners of the nation. As more cities pass resolutions that preclude the conducting of official business with Arizona companies, Arizona’s economy will go hungry and Arizonans will find their state lurching closer and closer to “pariah-state” territory. We can only hope that the public leaders of the Valley of the Sun learn their lesson this time.

These morons have taken a security issue, and turned it into one more divisive issue.  It’s not the law that is dividing, it’s assjacks like this!  Read the freakin’ bill!
