Corker slams banking bill at Nashville stop

Republican Sen. Bob Corker said in a speech Monday to the Rotary Club of Nashville that the banking reform bill pending in Congress is bad legislation, but he nonetheless expects it to become law.

Well, of course it will! As with every other BAD bill we’ve had shoved down our throats!

Corker said he does not expect to vote for the financial services bill after trying to broker a compromise between Senate Democrats and Republicans. Efforts at bipartisanship have been doomed in recent years, as both parties have refused to introduce centrist legislation, he said.

Bob has become a serious disappointment to Tennessee conservatives.

“I think people would come together around middle-of-the-road policies,” he said. “You think I’m going to oppose a good, middle-of-the-road policy that takes our country forward? No.”

See, this is what Bob isn’t getting. We don’t want ‘a good, middle-of-the-road policy’! We’d very much like you, and your cohorts to stop tinkering! We don’t need to go ‘forward’ in such a manner. We NEED you clowns up there in D.C. to get the hell out of the way!  There is right, and there is wrong.  Wrong is what we keep getting from the Swamp.

Democrats say the legislation passed by the House and the Senate will make Wall Street more accountable, prevent future financial market meltdowns and protect consumers from “unsafe” financial products, such as subprime mortgages.

You mean those same meltdowns that were actually encouraged by the stupidity in Congress? The idiocy of these people still astounds me, although, by now, it shouldn’t.

But Corker said the bill will make it harder for businesses to borrow money, make American banks less competitive internationally and give federal and state officials too much power over financial markets.

Well….yeah! That’s the whole idea, Bob! If I, sitting down here in Podunk TN, can see this, why can’t you figure it out? And you were actually working on this? Uh huh.

Corker said Democrats had “moved the goalposts” rather than agree to compromises he suggested to make the banking bill more acceptable to congressional Republicans. Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd said in a statement last week that the bill incorporates many ideas from Republicans and that he hopes to receive more input from them in the conference committee.

I’d really like to see a good chat between P/H and Bob! Heh. If that can’t, or won’t happen, then perhaps he should read this, and share the info with his fellow Senators.

“In this conference, the minority can be as relevant as they choose to be in these discussions,” he said. “I welcome constructive input as we work to finalize the essential reforms we need to ensure the long-term stability of our financial system. But I will not weaken this bill.”

Actually, it’s NOT the government that will stabilize the financial system, but the private sector.   It’s NOT the government’s job!   I’m thinking Corker is one of the 100 reasons that the 17th Amendment should be repealed.  :?   Since both houses of Congress have no idea how to balance a check book, they obviously have NO business telling others how it’s done.
