The Arrogance of Steve Cohen
Cohen to focus on infant mortality, discrimination, jobs
When he returns to Washington next week for a summer recess special session, Steve Cohen will be savoring a sweet victory over Willie Herenton but also preparing for a third term tackling infant mortality, employment discrimination and creating jobs.
1- Doctors deal with infant mortality.
2- Congress doesn’t “fix” discrimination.
3- Congress doesn’t create jobs.
He’ll also be looking forward to a race against Republican Charlotte Bergmann in November, he said during a wide-ranging interview Friday over breakfast at The Peabody. But he said he won’t debate Bergmann, a candidate with what he calls a “right-wing” agenda.
So, Cohen is saying he won’t debate a woman, Charlotte Bergmann, who supports the Constitution? I wasn’t aware that document only applied to the “right wing” folks. Well, I suppose that makes sense…..to a socialist. However, it doesn’t really make sense to rational THINKING people.
He dismisses his general election opponent, who won the Republican nomination Thursday, as misguided and irrelevant. “Neither she nor Sidney Chism understand the African-American voter. If she understood (them), she wouldn’t be running on an extreme, right-wing, tea party platform that works totally against the interests of the African-American community.”
That’s a real interesting statement coming from a white guy from New York, talking about a black woman from the South. If anyone knows about the hyphenated ‘community’, it would be said black woman from Memphis. However, the Democrats, no matter their skin tone, have this really strange idea that only THEY know what’s best for a certain group of people. If that’s not arrogance, I don’t know what is!
