An Ol' Broad's Ramblings
Like Catfish?
During the four weeks leading up to this weekend’s World Championship of Catfishing, anglers have been fishing from the Tennessee River competing in the Catfish Derby to land the biggest catfish each week.
I don’t know about you, but when I hear the word “derby”, I think some sort of race or sport. Kentucky Derby – horses…roller derby – fools on roller skates, that kind of thing. Oh, and we mustn’t forget the derby hat.
But I would never have associated fish with a derby.
Can’t you just see someone raising the rail….”and OFF they go!”
But the stakes are about to be raised when the National Catfish Derby World Championship of Catfishing begins at 6 a.m. Aug. 21. Scales open at 8 a.m. and the winner determining weigh-in takes place at 3 p.m.
I’ve seen some big catfish in my lifetime, so I reckon there could be some whoppers.
This year over $14,000 in cash prizes will be given away. The winning team is awarded $5,000. The best weigh-in by a woman angler is given the lady angler award and $250.
The seniors award and $250 is given to a competitor 65 years of age or older with the best catfish weigh-in. The best weigh-in for a competitor 17 years of age or younger will be given the youth award and $250.
Ok. Wait just a cotton pickin’ minute! Why do the ladies only rate $250? What if some lady pulls in the biggest butt ugly fish of the whole tournament? Shouldn’t SHE rate the big prize? Ok ok ok. I know how it works. Just strikes me as sexist. Heh.
The tournament is open to everyone. Participants can pre-register for the tournament from 3-9 p.m. Aug. 20 at Pickwick Landing State Park.
Entry forms and payment may also be dropped off at Team Hardin County. The number there is (731) 925-8181. Further information is available at Ken Freeman Outdoors by calling (731) 234-1888.
So, if you’re into sitting and watching the water go by, with some fancy string hanging off the end of a pole, ya oughta come check out the Derby. Will I be there? Are you nuts? I hate fish!

Hehehehe!

Hey lady……..I thought the same thing as you, when I read that about the ladies only rating $250 bucks! What the?!
I have to agree with you on this……..LOL, but then I agree with you on everything you post.
By the by…….I got’s a question for ya, if you wouldn’t mind??
I’m getting ready to purchase a website, but I’d like to have one where the hosting and the domain are provided together. Mind if I ask you how yours is set up?? Don’t respond here…….you can email me if you would please.
Good heavens! You must be as nuts as I am if you agree with EVERYTHING! LMAO
To be perfectly honest, I don’t have a clue. I bought the domain name from GoDaddy….I think. Then turned it all over to the computer gurus. Do you actually think I have a clue what goes on behind the scenes? ROFLMAO
ROFLMAO!! Yep……..nuts would be a good word for it!
) And, keep those posts coming!
Awww, shucks, and here I thought you were a computer wiz! LOL! Must be nice to have your very own computer gurus at hand!
Anyway, I really like your website. LOL, tell your gurus that they are doing a bang up job!
I’ve been looking at a couple of internet companies that combine domain and hosting services. I figure it’d just be simpler that way.
I think though, that ‘thou doest protest too much’. You’re probably more competent than you realize.
Trust me…. I can stick a widget or two on the side bar, but past that….??? Heh. I keep telling ‘em I need to learn to do backups, updates and such, but then….I’m just a girrrrrl! LOL
Ohhhhhhh lordie! That bad huh? Men! You can’t live with em, and you can’t…….oh wait, yes…..you CAN live without em!! (evil grin).
Well, I’m no computer wiz myself, but I managed to put myself through two years of an ‘Online’ University, and got the degree to prove it!
Something I never got around to when I was young, lol……..too busy having babies and being a housewife and mother. I always wanted to go to College, but honestly thought I didn’t have the smarts for it.
I surprised myself, and found out I wasn’t as dumb as my ex-hubby used to tell me I was, LOL! He had a little bit of a controlling nature, you might say. (rolling eyes)! Anyway, thanks for the quick response lady.
LOL No…not really. Kind of hard to learn stuff when one is in WI and the other is in CA.
Yep, the rugrats can definitely put the brakes on plans, can’t they. But hey….ya did it! THAT is a major accomplishment! Wish I had finished. But ya know…like is an amazing education! Heh.
