An Ol' Broad's Ramblings
Huntin’…..Sort Of
This afternoon, the Mr and I loaded up shotguns, shells, and folding stools, all decked out in camo, with the intent of shooting some doves at Vance Dennis‘ annual Dove Shoot.
Naturally, food came first! Poor Vance was being overwhelmed by smoke from the grill. It was rather amusing to watch him trying to wave away smoke while trying to get the burgers off. They were rather tasty, so, personally, I think it was worth his irritation.
There weren’t as many folks this year as there were last year. It’s a Wednesday, after all, and most folks actually have to go to work! With the exception of Ashley’s mom, who stopped by for a short time, she and I were the only females in sight.
After munching down, it was time to head out to the field! The Mr and I were late out again, so got our same spot from last year. We sat. We talked. We watched the dragonflies. We talked. I had a conversation with “Homer”.
Did you know that butterflies tickle when they lick at you? Yup. They do!
Honestly, the only time I even held the shotgun was to load it and unload it.
I was starting to wonder if it was time to vaporize some dragonflies. Didn’t see ONE SINGLE DOVE! Oh, the other guys got some, but evidently, put ‘em all down before they could reach us.
Being the old codgers than we are, and full of water, it was time to leave. In a hurry.
We get home, and what do we see in the front yard? Yep….you got it! DOVES! sigh… Oh well… maybe next year!
