Top Ten Reasons America Won’t Miss the 111th Congress
The Foundry
The 111th Congress is officially over, and according to Gallup, it’s also officially the worst Congress in the history of polling. Yet despite its 13% approval rating there are those who are hailing the 111th Congress for its myriad legislative “accomplishments.” Not surprisingly, many of those touting those “accomplishments” are the very members of Congress who voted for the legislation in the first place. Starting at the top with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), you find a woman who is not at all ashamed of the legislation she has passed, despite the disastrous poll numbers. Pelosi says she is “very, very proud of the work that was accomplished by this Congress.”
The American people, though, think differently, and they have already issued their verdict on the 111th Congress by way of an earthshaking election in November. If you take a look at some of Congress’ big-ticket “accomplishments,” you might understand where they’re coming from. Here’s a look at 10 major pieces of legislation coming out of Congress the last two years and why Americans might not be so pleased:
Just a Few More Hours
Yep. It’s that time of the year! The end! And personally, I’m quite grateful to see this one come to a close. Is it the last year of the decade, or the beginning of the last year? Some folks will dispute that, but I’m more inclined to think we’re on the edge of the beginning of a new decade. Whatever….2010 is creeping towards it’s end! Thank you Jesus!
There’s going to be a lot of “year that was” type commentary going around. (The Wall Street Journal is a good start for your reading “pleasure”.) Yep….it was quite a year, alright! And not exactly one that most would like to remember. Politically, it was a nightmare, with the last few weeks as the climax. It’s that dream ya have of falling, and falling, and falling…. waking up right before ya hit bottom….on 11/2. Unfortunately for us, the nightmare continued on for way too long. Oh, I know….some folks out there think it was just a great year, or at least a step in the ‘right direction’ for them. Well, the rest of us don’t agree. We, the rational, logical types happen to prefer liberty over tyranny. How did we ever get saddled with so many who prefer someone else to run their lives?
The list is so long, and y’all know the damage that needs to be reversed, starting with ObamaCare, so i won’t go into it. Suffice it to say, if the GOP doesn’t grow a BIG pair, we can kiss them goodbye! We will either be stuck with the socialist Democrats as the “ruling party”, or we will see a meteoric rise of a completely NEW political party, one that remembers the Constitution, and will govern by it. (Uncle Ted has some good advice for the 112th Congress.) I’m cautiously optimistic, with a lot of skepticism thrown in, here and there. But to be perfectly honest, I don’t have much faith in those who have been in D.C. so long, they have forgotten what it is to live in the REAL world, and that covers BOTH parties. We shall see. But the power that be better remember….we ARE watching them, and we will NOT put up with anymore of their caca de toro!
On the personal front, I am SO happy this year is ending, and wish I could say all the issues that we’ve been dealing with are over now. I’d REALLY like to say it, but it’s not true. Some of those issues are pouring into 2011 with a vengeance! sigh… But, perhaps, in the next week or so, it’ll all be dealt with, and we can get back to what we consider almost normal.
I’m not going to go into details, but suffice it to say…prayers wouldn’t be a bad idea for a positive outcome. Thanks!
I don’t make resolutions anymore. I realized a long time ago, either I was going to do something, or I wasn’t, and it didn’t matter if I decided on the first day of a new year, or the two hundred and first. I am who I am, and that’s all there is to it!
Like it, or lump it. I ain’t going to make changes just to please someone else, who, in the grand scheme of things, don’t mean diddly in my life! I will, however, try to accommodate those who really DO matter. My prayer….“Please Lord, don’t let me embarrass You today!” I don’t always succeed, but I do try my best!
So, as we move into this new year, and new decade, I pray the best for you and yours! (Weren’t we suppose to have flying cars by now?)
