More Thinking Out Loud

16 December 2010, 11:15 am. 9 Comments. Filed under Congress, Feckless Weasels, Opinion, Politics, Taxes.

I’m not sure the left can be taught.  I keep reading how they are all bent out of shape about “tax breaks”, “tax cuts”, yada yada.  Well, are they not aware these are NOT cuts?  Nothing would change.  The rates would stay exactly as they are now.  Period.  The biggest problem I see where they are whining about increasing the deficit with keeping the tax rates the same, is their spending problem.

You see….if you don’t have money….you don’t spend it.  It’s really quite simple.  Does the average person go out and buy a Rolls Royce when all they can afford is a Malibu?  Of course not.  The banks wouldn’t lend them the money for the Rolls, and we shouldn’t be footing the bill for all the ills of the world either.  We don’t have the money.  It appears to me that the left is not very forward looking, in the grand scheme of things.  Sadly, there are some on the ‘right’, who are actually on the ‘right’, but more to the left of the middle in a great many areas, who have folded to the clarion call of “LET’S GO SHOPPING!”

The federal government does not have one single dime to it’s name.  Nothing.  Zip.  Zero.  What they are spending on their fatback projects is OUR money.  Money they take from OUR pockets, put in to a big pile, and decide whose fatback is more worthy, and what they’ll get in return for said LARGE lumps of money.  Usually, it’s more political power, and provides nothing for the common good of the nation.

Defense and roads. That’s pretty much it. How they ever got the idea that the taxpayers in one state should pay for some project in another state, that has nothing to do with their common good, is totally beyond me. And it needs to be stopped! NOW! Didn’t we say so in November? I thought we had, but I guess, as usual, no one is listening. I suggest the start by cleaning the wax out of their ears.

Here are a few examples of how they believe they should spend my money (source):

$1.7 MILLION was requested by outgoing WI Rep. Obey for a training center at a Tech school. Now, while this may be a noble gesture on his part, for his district, it does nothing to enhance the folks in say, South Carolina, or Alaska. Why should the residents of either state pay for something they will never be able to use?

I’m really sorry that Spokane, WA has a blighted area, but perhaps Murray and Cantrell should remember all cities have some blighted areas, to the tune of $2 MILLION, and it really is up to the citizens of the area to fix the problem. Yet Murray only requested $200,000 to help our vets? Veterans ARE a national treasure, and anything we can do to aid them, after they have given so much to, and for, us, should and MUST be done.

A cool $1 MILLION for La Raza? I don’t flippin’ think so!

Oh, the list is long and varied, but this will give you some idea of just how they are screwing the taxpayers.  If they are concerned about deficit spending, the first thing to do…..STOP SPENDING!

(The Washington Times has a pretty good editorial this morning, Lame Duck on Steroids, well worth the read.)

Just HAVE to add this one!

BREAKING: Rep. Emanuel Cleaver Earmarks $48 BILLION to Pal Who Runs Child Day Care Center From Home With His Wife

Like A Condom, The First Amendment Can’t Always Protect You
by Ann Coulter

First of all, I feel so much more confident that the TSA’s nude photos of airline passengers will never be released now that I know the government couldn’t even prevent half a million classified national security documents from being posted on WikiLeaks.

President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder will be getting around to WikiLeaks’ proprietor, Julian Assange, just as soon as they figure out which law the New Black Panthers might have violated by standing outside a polling place with billy clubs.

These legal eagles are either giving the press a lot of disinformation about the WikiLeaks investigation or they are a couple Elmer Fudds who can’t find their own butts without a map.

Since Holder apparently wasn’t watching Fox News a few weeks ago, I’ll repeat myself and save the taxpayers the cost of Holder’s legal assistants having to pore through the federal criminal statutes starting with the A’s.

Border Patrol Agent Killed in Southern Arizona

A U.S. Border Patrol agent was fatally shot after he encountered several suspects in southern Arizona, officials announced Wednesday.

Agent Brian Terry was killed late Tuesday near Rio Rico, Ariz., according to a statement released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials.

At least four suspects are in custody and another is still being pursued.

We have a war going on, right on our own border, and yet the federal government FAILS to uphold the law.  We are fighting a war on the other side of the world against a bunch of 12th century thugs to protect people who can’t, or won’t, stand up against them.  Haven’t we lost enough of our sons and daughters in a foreign land?  Isn’t it past time we protect our own?

My most heart felt prayers with the family and friends of this gentleman!  May God Bless them, and give them strength.

TEXAS PREPARATION

There’s old story out of Texas. Seems a guy cruises thru a stop sign, or whatever, and gets pulled over by a local policeman. Guy hands the cop his driver’s license, insurance verification, plus his concealed carry permit.

“Okay, Mr. Smith,” the cop says, “I see your CCW permit. Are you carrying today?”

“Yes, I am.”

“Well then, better tell me what you got.”

Smith says, “Well, I got a .357 revolver in my inside coat pocket. There’s a 9mm semi-auto in the glove box. And, I’ve got a .22 magnum derringer in my right boot.”

“Okay,” the cop says. “Anything else?”

“Yeah, back in the trunk, there’s an AR15 and a shotgun. That’s about it.”

“Mr. Smith, are you on your way to or from a gun range…?”

“Nope.”

“Well then, what are you afraid of…?”

“Not a damn thing…”

Congress – MASSIVE FAIL!

Call Reid’s Bluff
The Foundry

Gallup released a poll this morning showing that the American people dislike this 111th Congress more than any Congress ever. Specifically, a full 83% of Americans disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job while only 13% approve. That is the worst approval rating in more than 30 years of tracking congressional job performance.

Why do Americans so despise this Congress? The reckless way it spends other people’s money, for starters. One would have thought that after getting “shellacked” at the polls this November, Congress would have gotten the message. No luck. Majority Leader Harry Reid introduced a $1.27 trillion 1,924 page omnibus spending bill last night that contains 6,000 earmarks worth $8 billion. Oh, and all this has to be approved by midnight Saturday or the government shuts down.

Morning Coffee Consumption

The 23% in favor of civilian trials actually surprises me. This wasn’t an armed robbery at your local 7/11. This was an act of war they are accused of, and as such, should be tried in a military tribunal. If it were up to me, they would have be executed on the spot, but then, I have major issues with people trying to murder me and mine.

Seriously? *shakes head* Well, we know Time is no longer relevant in the real world, so I guess it’s not all that surprising.

Definitely a Democrat.

With Memphis’ high unemployment rate, this is definitely GOOD news!

Politicians leaving the sinking ship?  Let’s just hope it’s not all for show.  There are already enough RINOs that need to be dealt with.

Oh, I bet they have a whole lot more than 200.

You can’t make silk out of a sow’s ear, and you can’t force a peace where no peace is possible.

I’m getting more and more suspicious of Nashville’s mayor.  Wondering how he ever got elected?  Not only does he support criminals, but now he believes he has a right to force immorality on a private CHRISTIAN oriented school?  I don’t bloody well think so!

Anyone else find it odd that city zoning laws trumps the care of the homeless?   I wonder how many people freeze to death in the frigid Wisconsin winters because churches aren’t allowed to open their doors, and do the job Jesus commanded them to do?

Sick pigs!

One reason I have lost all interest in the NFL….over sized, over paid children, never truly punished for their crimes, and allowed to return to the game after an occasional brief stint behind bars.  No leadership!  No real consequences!

Gee, what a shame!  The baby murderers can’t find a place to slaughter the innocent/snark

They want to charge people for driving into their city?  Only a radically liberal bunch could ever think up something so utterly ridiculous!

We are so far in debt that our great grandchildren won’t be able to pay it off, even if those weasels did stop spending, and we’re sending $6 MILLION dollars to help Lebanon’s economy?  Are they freakin’ kidding me??????

I’m confused.  If you don’t train, how are you suppose to be fit?  Is the Air Force going P.C.?  One of those, ‘don’t wanna make anyone feel bad cuz they aren’t as strong as the rest of the troops?  HUH?  What?  Everyone I knew in the military back when complained about the mandatory PT, but all appreciated it when the need arose.  Maybe I’m missing something here?

Democrats must really hate Americans.  What other explanation is there for their theft?  Forcing people into poverty with their reckless maneuvering?  Obviously, they didn’t get the message, and must be reminded, perhaps a bit more forcefully?

Country singer Mark Wills plays for wounded soldiers, one at a time

The Army private fiddled with the bandage covering the wrist where his left hand used to be and joined Nashville country star Mark Wills in singing Wills’ hit song “19 Somethin’.”

The young soldier, recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center after losing a hand to a rocket-propelled grenade in Afghanistan, smiled shyly as Wills teased him about his singing.

Such moments define the Musicians On Call program and are the reason Wills visited Walter Reed on Monday to aid the program’s bid to start a Washington chapter early next year.

A fundraiser for the new chapter was set for later Monday evening at the Recording Industry Association of America’s Washington headquarters. Reps. Marsha Blackburn of Brentwood and Jim Cooper of Nashville were scheduled to attend as honorary co-chairs of the new chapter.

Musicians On Call, with chapters in Nashville, New York City, Miami and Philadelphia, brings volunteer performers into hospital rooms to provide patients with the healing power of live music.

For more info, Musicians On Call.  Seems like an extremely worthy venture.  They don’t just go visit our wounded warriors, and it’s not just country stars, but if ever there was a need for a chapter in D.C., I’d say it was too long in coming.

Ummm…. who is Lady Antebellum?

Dean: TN immigration legislation would hurt Nashville economy

Mayor Karl Dean asked Tennessee lawmakers Monday not to approve immigration-related legislation that could hurt the city’s economic development efforts.

“I’m asking them, as the mayor of Nashville, not to do anything that will put our city and our state at a competitive disadvantage,” Dean said in a speech to the Rotary Club of Nashville. “Being a diverse city, a city that is perceived as a friendly, welcoming place, is key to business recruitment. Our hospitality industry and the success of our colleges and universities depend upon it.

I beg your pardon? There are no LEGAL residents of Nashville who will be more than happy to have a job in the hospitality industry?

“We need to be serious right now about jobs and prosperity and education, and we can’t do that if we tie our hands by creating a global reputation as an unwelcoming, unfriendly state. … It’s about doing what’s right and what’s in the best interest of our city’s economy.”

I don’t know ANYONE who doesn’t welcome LEGAL immigrants….well, unless said legal immigrants expect us to adapt to THEIR culture, instead of the other way around.  However, we SHOULD be considered very unfriendly, and unwelcoming to those who choose not to follow the law!

Yes, we DO need to be serious about jobs.  I wonder how many kids would LOVE an after school job but can’t get one because someone has decided that an illegal needs it so much more?  Just askin’.  And, about that education?  Well, I have NO issue providing an education for children of LEGAL residents, and I don’t know anyone who does.  However, why should we be required to pay for the education of someone who broke in the back door?  No, the kids aren’t to blame, but the parents sure are, and should NOT be rewarded by giving their children an education at OUR expense.

If I had my druthers, I’d have this clown arrested for aiding and abetting criminals!  But hey…that’s just me.

Federal judge in Va. strikes down health care law

A federal judge in Virginia has declared the Obama administration’s health care reform law unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson is the first judge to rule against the law, which has been upheld by two others in Virginia and Michigan.

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli filed the lawsuit challenging the law’s requirement that citizens buy health insurance or pay a penalty starting in 2014.

He argues the federal government doesn’t have the constitutional authority to impose the requirement.

The federal government has been doing a LOT of things they do not have the constitutional authority to do, but that hasn’t stopped them. Perhaps, now, we can get things back on track, and abolish ALL the unconstitutional crap they have been foisting on us in the last few……decades?  I know this war isn’t over, but it’s a damn good victory.
