Waiting….and Waiting

10 February 2011, 2:55 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Middle East.

If you happened to be watching the news this morning, you would have heard that Mubarak is going to make an announcement tonight.  Well, it’s definitely ‘tonight’ in Egypt (11pm).  So….???

Listening to him speak right now….not going to step down. Ok….got it. Why does the phrase “free and transparent election” in September sound SO familiar?

Can we say POWDER KEG?  I knew we could.

A Few Oddities
By Ben Stein

I am endlessly amazed at how backwards we humans get things in our lives. Just let me give you two very basic examples, one of which is a crime against humanity.

I keep reading in the New York Times that Mayor Bloomberg, a billionaire health nut, is on a campaign against having too much salt in foods in New York City restaurants. His belief is that New Yorkers and visitors shorten their life spans by eating too much salt and therefore raising their blood pressure in a dangerous way. If he took control over the salt content in New York restaurants, he could save a few dozen lives per year, he believes.

But, wait a moment. I also read in the New York Times that New York City is one of the abortion capitals of the nation, with a much higher rate of abortion than most other parts of the nation. And Mayor Bloomberg is a great fan of “…a woman’s right to choose…” to abort her baby.

Read whole column here.

The column is a couple of days old, but I don’t think anyone can dispute the left’s hypocrisy is a 24/7/365 characteristic.

A Change?

Egyptian President to Reportedly Respond to Protester Demands

The head of Egypt’s ruling party says he expects President Mubarak to respond to protester demands.

The New York Times is reporting that President Hosni Mubarak could step aside as soon as tonight and hand over control to his new vice president.

Well, seeing another dictator take a nose dive isn’t a bad thing. The problem is….with what do ya fill the void. I wonder if those doing most of the protesting, getting injured and dying, are aware they might get MUCH worse than what they have now?  Just asking.

Are We Stupid?

Weekly Jobless Claims Drop to 3-Year Low

The number of people applying for unemployment benefits plunged last week to the lowest level in nearly three years, boosting hopes that companies will step up hiring this year as the economy strengthens.

Applications sank by a seasonally adjusted 36,000 to 383,000, the lowest point since early July 2008, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

Unemployment applications reflect the level of layoffs, but also can indicate whether companies are willing to hire.

Well, I guess we must be…..IF we buy into the gubmint numbers. You see, once a person’s unemployment benefits end, they aren’t applying anymore, are they. And if they aren’t applying, their numbers are dropped. Dropping numbers….makes things look a whole lot brighter, doesn’t.

Unfortunately, that’s not the reality. Not only have people run out of unemployment benefits, they haven’t found a job either. What do they do? Well, I wonder what the number of people applying for welfare these days might be? I haven’t really seen too much on that front, have you?  We do know that more people than ever are receiving food stamps.  Wouldn’t that be an indication that things aren’t so peachy?  I don’t really think the REAL unemployment rate, somewhere around 16%, is an indication of an improving employment picture, do you?

Major Problem!

10 February 2011, 8:21 am. 6 Comments. Filed under Blog Stuff.

When I turned on my computer this morning, there was an update for the Flash player thingy.  No problem right?  Just download it, and all will be well.  WRONG!  I downloaded, went to post something….and…….I waited……and waited……and waited…..  Page wouldn’t load.  It kept getting stuck on feedjit.  After an hour of waiting, the admin page FINALLY loaded.  Well, ok.  I go to post.  And waited……and waited……  Well, you get the picture.   I finally removed the feedjit widget, and the blog itself loaded fairly quickly.  Not so in the background.  In other words, this side of the site.  After 3 hours, it finally occurred to me…..that upgrade of the flash player just might have something to do with the problem.  So, I uninstalled and rebooted.  Yup!  That was the problem.  Unfortunately, I can’t play any videos without the upgrade.  WTH???  Can’t post with it.  Can’t do videos without.

I have a major headache now.  Where’s my guru????  I need a nap.

flameout

And now photobucket is giving me attitude????  *insert a few choice words here*

Ann on The Feckless Media

Dear Mainstream Media Reporter Who Wasted My Time
by Ann Coulter

I’ve been finishing my next book and only able to catch bits and pieces of the news this month, but, based on what I’ve heard from the mainstream media, I’m pretty sure the conservative movement is now being led either by Jared Loughner or GOProud’s president, Chris Barron.

In honor of the gays who have come out of the closet as Republicans to be one of the 140 sponsors of CPAC 2011, I thought I’d run one of the interviews I gave before speaking to GOProud last September, which the reporter never ran after wasting my time.

This is also in honor of The New York Times reporter who wasted my time by writing an article — or at least a headline, which is as far as I got — on my speech to the gays that specifically required knowing absolutely nothing about me.

Moreover, I’m feeling like the tea party is stealing my thunder again this week, so it’s time to suck up to the gays! (That’s from the Times’ headline.)

Fun Times In Podunk :/

9 February 2011, 1:55 pm. 2 Comments. Filed under Just Cuz, Opinion.

I had to get out of the house this morning.  I had no choice.  It wasn’t because of the supposed coming snow storm.  The need for toilet paper is a year round thing, don’cha know.  So, I’m off, fairly early for me,  with 3 specific stops in mind.

First stop. No problem.  Easy in and out.

Second stop. Wally World.  Now we all know that any trip to Wal Mart is an adventure, and this one ended up being about the same.  When I first went in, there were very few people wandering around.  Naturally, everything I need is from one side to the other, and since I’m old and slow, it takes me a while.  By the time I had gathered the needed items on my Wally World list, plus some extra….naturally, there were fairly long lines to check out, and only 3 to do the checking.  Other than the 20 or less lines….they were fully manned, of course.  Few people had 20 or less.

This being the South, the threat of a possibility of snow, brings out the ‘best’ in folks, don’t ya know, all looking for those staples of life…..milk, bread…..and beer.  *shakes head* Of course, this being the South, no one does anything in half measures, either.  :D   If you are going to get one gallon of milk, ya might as well go ahead and get 2 or 3, plus a few cases of beer while you’re at it, right?

After finally getting my purchases paid for, and the cart loaded up to leave, I noticed a fairly young woman with 2 small children walking out at the same time.  I can’t help but wonder if the young female has all her marbles?  First, it’s flippin’ cold out there!  I mean….for southwest West Tennessee….it is COLD!  25 degrees with a wind chill…..well….COLD!  DAMN cold!  I noticed this foolish female because she has no coat on.  Well, that’s her issue.  What totally set me off, the toddler had no coat on either, and the baby in the carrier?  No coat.  I noticed this because the baby wasn’t covered with a blanket either.  Honestly, I was surprised to see the baby had on booties!  If she hadn’t gotten into her vehicle and taken off, I MIGHT have had to say something….REAL loud.  What was surprising, evidently, the older woman with her was granny.  Granny was bundled up just fine for the weather conditions.  Why didn’t granny smack said young female around and make her put some warm clothing on those kids?

GRRRRRRRR…..

Third stop. Another fairly easy in and out.  There are some things I can’t find at Wally World, so have to make an extra trip to Kroger.  :?   While pulling out, the big money truck decided he was bigger than me, so had NO problem pulling out right in front of me.  Dude didn’t even bother looking to see if anyone was coming.  *grumble grumble grumble* But no problem.  Temper remains in check.  I just smile.  *idiot*

Now, comes the fun part!  Driving home.  Sounds fairly simple, right?  Not when it comes to Savannah, TN drivers.

Scenario:

Two left turn lanes.

Example:

Clearly marked, on both the road itself, and the sign below the left turn signal lights.  Two said signal lights.  Doesn’t look complicated to me.

In the far left turn lane, a man in a four door overpriced GM product.  In the near left turn lane, beautiful, brilliant, blogress.  The light changes to green, 2 left turn arrows, lit brightly, for all to see.  Both vehicles proceed to make the cautious turn to the left, progressing safely…..UNTIL….  Said middle aged male in the overpriced GM vehicle decides to ignore the rules of the road, clearly posted, and pull into the lane of above mentioned beautiful, brilliant, blogress, who, is thankfully, quite observant when behind the wheel of a vehicle, causing said BBB to slam on the brakes, thus avoiding becoming a permanent fixture on the idiot middle aged male’s rear bumper!  Said dimwit male even had the gall to look surprised when lovely lady laid on the horn!

JIMINY CRICKETS!  Please….would someone tell me just WHY there are so many blithering idiot drivers concentrated in such a small town?  SHEESH!

Needless to say, I have survived my foray into the wilds of Savannah, Tennessee, and will keep my hinder planted, safely, in my own little world out here in Podunk!  For the time being.

I’m BAAAAAAAACK!

9 February 2011, 8:14 am. 6 Comments. Filed under Blog Stuff.

This actually turned out to be more than 72 hours, but that’s alright.  I totally ENJOYED my time away from the computer.  I wasn’t even tempted, with one exception.  I heard something, and automatically went to look it up, and…..no computer.  Well, that’s alright.  Evidently, it wasn’t all that important, cuz now I don’t remember what it was.  Or maybe that’s just that age thing again.  :?   I didn’t going into withdrawals.  :D

What did I do during my time away?  Praying, some Bible study, and a lot of reading!  :)   One book I would HIGHLY recommend…. Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream by David Platt.

Read it! You’ll understand why it should be read by every single Christian, pastors and church members in the country! :)

I also read a book I wouldn’t recommend.  It was sci fi, but so bloomin’ repetitious, in dialog, scene setting, etc….should have been half the length. :? Interesting story concept, but irritatingly, and unnecessarily long.

I’ve also started another one called The Hangman’s Daughter. So far, a third of the way through, it’s quite interesting.

I love my Kindle!  :D

I’ll be quite honest.  I almost didn’t turn this thing on this morning.  So, instead of disappearing completely, I’ve decided every now and then, I NEED to take a day or two once in a while away from this confuser, it might be do worlds of good.

One other thing…..I didn’t watch much news at all.  I think my blood pressure has recovered.  LOL  When something becomes an obsession, you tend to forget about the things that are truly important in your life.

Now, on to the next phase of my fast.  This is gonna be MUCH harder.  :D

2/6 – 2/9

5 February 2011, 11:59 am. 15 Comments. Filed under Blog Stuff, Faith, Opinion.

Starting on Sunday, 6 February, midnight, I will be closing my computer.  No blog.  No email.  No Facebook.  No Twitter.  Well, I don’t really do much on Twitter anymore, except tweet posts, so that’s not really an issue.

Yep, I will be stepping away from the contraption.  Why?  Well, it’s a choice.  A ‘fast’ from what tends to become an obsession now and then.  We ALL need to step away from the things that are not really all that important to our spiritual well being, and concentrate on those things that are the greater priorities!

For the moment, I have decided on a MINIMUM of 3 days, 72 hours.  That might extend a day or two, all depending on where I am at the that time.  But not to worry, odds are, I will return.  :D   Kind of hard to get rid of me.  Sort of like a bad penny.  Heh.  Or, perhaps, a mold that just keeps coming back?  :?

A Path Of Destruction

I know I’m not the only one disturbed about the way the Obama administration is handling the situation in Egypt right now. I’m sure not the first to draw a comparison between 1979 and 2011. I remember 1979 all too well.

Perhaps the most dangerous analogy between Iran in 1979 and Egypt in 2011 is how the dangers of a new radical Islamic regime are understood. As noted earlier, many academics and officials tried to argue that Khomeini could be a partner for the US. The New York Times reported earlier this week that at a meeting with Middle East experts convened by the National Security Council on Monday, White House staff members “made clear that they did not rule out engagement with the Muslim Brotherhood as part of an orderly process.” (source)

At least no one has stormed the embassy…….. so far.  Have we learned nothing from history? Is Obama working so hard to be WORSE than Carter that he really can’t see the forest for the trees?

We have one ally in the Middle East.  ONE.  I don’t give a flip if the pundits claim there are a few others.  No, Pakistan is not our ally.  Neither is Turkey.  Iraq is not a budding democracy.  NONE of them.  In reality, even Egypt never has been.  They have had their own agenda, even if they have been a bit of a stabilizer in the region. But how stable could they be with a dictator in charge? Stability doesn’t come from the end of a gun, or a torture chamber. It doesn’t come from silencing opposition.

Let’s face it. These are not rational people in the region. Does anyone really think the pipeline explosion was just a fluke?  Do rational people attack, and kill, those who are trying to get their story out to the world?  Apparently, the number of people willing to help those being attacked are fewer than there should be, and some who should be the first to come their aid are extremely reluctant.

Does Obama really believe he can ‘work with‘ the Muslim Brotherhood, should they be the ones to seize power?  If he really hates the U.S. and Israel, I suppose he does.  If he loves this country, as he says, and does support Israel, as he says, as every American should, then, definitely not.  Honestly, I can’t even give him the benefit of the doubt anymore.  He’s thrown way too many people under the bus for his own personal political expediency.  If he truly is a Christian, which I find doubtful (I don’t actually believes he is anything but a narcissist), then he will stand up for Israel, and the U.S., and stop playing footsy with those who would destroy both.

Hamas is a terrorist organization.  Hamas IS the Muslim Brotherhood.  The Muslim Brotherhood birthed Hamas.  One should NEVER doubt their goals!

“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it”

I don’t think it really matters to them which is destroyed first, Little Satan, or Big Satan, as long as their goals are met.  Destruction of the Western world is the ultimate goalIslam will be the tool.

Update on Rylee

4 February 2011, 3:45 pm. 2 Comments. Filed under Faith, Friends & Family.

Unfortunately, it’s not good for little Rylee.  Mom updated Caring Bridge this morning.  All I can ask is for continued prayer for this young family.

We found out tonight that Rylee has a non-curable genetic disorder called 3p deletion syndrome. Basically that just means part of her 3rd chromosome is missing. She is unique in that there is not another recorded known case like hers.
