Wanna Buy A Town?

For $799,000, you can buy town of Scenic

Scenic, once known as a Wild West town next to the Badlands, now finds itself in an unlikely place: listed for sale by the woman who has owned much of the town for years.

And she is hoping to get as much as $799,000 for 46 acres of West River land that includes 12 acres of a town that holds fond memories but finds itself in danger of becoming another Western ghost town.

“The businesses and land has always been family-run, but now, it’s time for someone else to come in and bring it back to life,” said LeeAnn Keester, the daughter of Twila Merril, who has listed most of the town of Scenic for sale. “It’s just me and my mom now, and now, with her health being what it is, it’s just too much for us.”

The town of Scenic was established in the early 1900s to serve as a stopping point alongside the railroad that went through the town, said Leo Stangle, who has lived in the eastern Pennington County town since 1949 and owns Gopher Choker, a pest-control business.

Have you ever said….”If I was in charge….”, or “If I ran the show…”?  Well, here’s your chance!  I mean, if you own the town, shouldn’t you get to make the rules?  :D   Ok, perhaps not to any extreme extent, but still you must be able to have a say in things, right?

So, I’m curious.  If you owned your own town, how would you run it?  Would you turn it into a hippie commune, based on the liberal ideology?  Or would it be totally free market, or something in between.  What type of laws would you put in place?  I’ve actually given this a wee bit of thought since I read this story, and ya know what?  I don’t think I’d want that much responsibility.  :D

BUT….I can think of a few things I’d do.  First, I’d be really discriminatory. Heh. Not against color or religion or anything, but against liberals. I wouldn’t allow liberals in my town. Rude, eh? Well, shoot, look at what they’ve done to Detroit! Liberals kill economic growth, so there wouldn’t be any allowed. You don’t work, you don’t eat. Simple as that.

Of course, neighbors would help neighbors in time of need, so there wouldn’t be any interference by those nasty ol’ federal gubmint types. Kids would be taught gun safety from an early age. That would be law. And justice would be swift. YOu kill, you die. You steal, your work off the debt to the one you stole from, and MAYBE you’ll get to stay. But odds are, there wouldn’t be much crime since EVERYONE would be armed, so that might not be an issue.

Education would be dealt with on a local level.  No federal indoctrination!  Kids would be taught TRUE history.  They’d learn to add, subtract, multiply, divide, how to SPELL, grammar, and how to speak properly, along with necessary skills to actually make a decent life for themselves.

Well, that’s just a few things I came up with for my town. There is more, but I’m really curious…  How would you run YOUR town? :D

    ” I wouldn’t allow liberals in my town. ”

I trust you are referring to ‘leftists’; that is, progressive liberals.  :)

I would put a big cross in the middle of town. There is one in Effingham,Illinois that I would copy.

Well, yeah!  No progressive commie ba***rds allowed!  LOL

We’ve got a big cross right on our city limits.  Ok, no where near as big as the one in Effingham, but you can sure see it from the other side of the river.  :D   Can we add a Star of David?  Like a cross inside the Star?  I wear one.  Pretty cool.

I think a Star of David would be fine.

    A Buddha too.

I’ve always wanted my own country, my sovereign little island nation in the South Pacific… But a town might be a good starting point until I can trade up.

I would run mine by electing you the mayor and one of three on the rule-making committee.
