An Ol' Broad's Ramblings

Books
You might be asking yourself, “What in the world is the Ol’ Broad doing since she hasn’t been spending all her time on the computer, posting stuff?” Ok, probably not. But I’m gonna tell ya anyway. I have been reading. A LOT. Now, I typically read a lot anyway, but I mean I have been READING. Darn near everything. I’m a slow reader by nature, but I managed to finish two books over the weekend, and start a third. Some of what I read is crap, but entertaining. Some is pretty dadburn good. So, I thought I’d recommend a few, just in case you’re an obsessive reader too.
Since I’ve read more than 70 books since January, obviously, there are others I seriously enjoyed, like Orson Scott Card and Stieg Larsson stuff, and some totally sucked. There are even a couple I can’t get through. REALLY bad…writing, story line, shallow characters and such. I hate starting a book and not finishing it, no matter how bad it is, so I’m sure, eventually, I’ll get through ‘em.
Oh yeah….can’t forget the one Chris sent me:
Winter Garden One of those with a main character you LOVE to hate. (At least I actually READ what she sends.

Put the security of the nation at risk or raise taxes. This is the sour “deal” liberal lawmakers are offering in exchange for insufficient spending cuts, according to reports of this weekend’s debt negotiations in Washington.
The framework that Republicans and Democrats are close to approving would raise the debt limit by at least $2.1 trillion and get Obama and congressional Democrats past their target date: Election Day 2012. In return for this generous political cover, Democrats would agree to a modest $1 trillion in supposed cuts spread out over 10 years; $350 billion of those “upfront” savings come from gutting national security resources.
A trillion dollars over 10 years is not sufficient to impress credit rating agencies, which have threatened to downgrade America’s credit status unless Congress enacts real measures to reform spending and lower the deficit. In fact, on Friday, Moody’s announced that neither the Boehner plan nor the Reid plan had sufficient cuts, saying: “Reductions of the magnitude now being proposed, if adopted, would likely lead Moody’s to adopt a negative outlook on the AAA rating.” The current plan does not improve upon either of those earlier plans.

Where Are The Americans?
While to be honest, I haven’t paid as close attention to this whole debt fiasco as I should have, I have been watching the antics of those in D.C. and have come a simple conclusion: There are very few Americans in either House of Congress, and there sure isn’t one in the White House. You see, they are either Democrats or Republicans, and that’s how they identify themselves. Not as Americans, putting America’s future first and foremost, but as a member of a party who wants the most out of the American people without any thought to the consequences of their actions. The Dems want their entitlements and more taxes and spend, spend spend. The Republicans…well, I’ll be damned if I can figure out what the establishment GOP is after, although they seem to enjoy their spending sprees as well. The only ones I can figure out are some the Tea Party backed members.
Apparently, the only ones who actually HEARD us in 2010 are the newest members. We said knock off the spending binges. They have been trying to get through to the ‘elders’, with some limited success, but apparently, not enough. “This is the way it’s done in Washington” mentality reigns supreme. Having watched the temper tantrums of the POTUS, the irrational proclamations of Harry Reid, and the pathetic delusions of Nancy Pelosi, I can only say….. God help us all! Compromising with such people is NOT a grown up thing to do, and I’m afraid this nation is going to be worse off than it has been for the last 4 years with Dems in control.
I would suggest to those diehard GOP establishment they listen to their newest members if they expect there to be a Republican Party in the future. WE, The People are pretty fed up with your ‘business as usual’. NO more spending, it’s not your money. The government has NO money! It’s steals ours and wastes it on programs that do nothing but promote poverty, and regulates businesses to oblivion.
My advice to the Democrats would be to knock off that class warfare bullsh*t, and that race card crap makes you all sounds like morons. WE have mostly gotten beyond color, why won’t you? Those ‘millionaires and billionaires’ are the ones that create the jobs y’all have so successfully eliminated. It’s time for y’all to get the hell out of the way!
Let’s put it this way, in the immature terms you may understand:
You ain’t the boss of me! I am the boss of YOU! Now pay attention, or you will find your sorry selves in a heap of hurt!
