How Harry Reid Manufactured a Crisis Over Disaster Aid
The Foundry

Listening to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) or reading The New York Times yesterday gave the impression that disaster relief victims were suffering from a lack of government aid.

“Without additional funding,” Reidwarned, “thousands of people who have lost literally everything they owned will be forced to go without food and shelter.”

The New York Times, reporting from Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, noted, “Uprooted and desolate, hard-working people in this part of the country expect a bit more from their government.”

Yesterday, with Reidonthebrinkofforcingagovernmentshutdown, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced thatthingsarentsodire. The agency has $114 million on hand for the remainder of the week, enough to get through the end of the fiscal year on September 30.

So the agenda of the tax-and-spend crowd is now clear. President Obama created the problem by overusing FEMA on disasters a record 222 times so far this year where federal aid was not essential. Then liberals manufactured a crisis and exploited disaster relief victims in order to keep expanding the size of government. What’s worse is that the some members of the media played along with it.

Lose The Union! Improve The Schools!

Obama Circumvents Congress on Education Policy
The Foundry

For the past few decades, the federal government has continuously increased its power over local schools, through funding with strings-attached, with depressing results. Since the 1970?s federal spending on education has nearly tripled, yet student achievement has remained flat and graduation rates have not improved. However, that increased spending has had a major impact on the amount of red tape, paperwork and administrative costs imposed on local schools and teachers, taking valuable time away from their core mission-educating children.

While federal policymakers are busy spending billions to make matters worse for public schools, they’re also busy preventing students from having better choices, at the behest of powerful teachers unions. While charter, parochial and private schools offer better results and graduation results, President Obama and his allies are trying to prevent children from enrolling in them through cost-effective aid for school choice that measurably puts them on a path of success.

In many cases, Washington lawmakers who themselves enjoyed school choice opportunities as children are seizing that same opportunity from inner-city kids–as they attempted to do with the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program–in order to place those children back into failing and often dangerous public schools with the odds stacked against them.

1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.

3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

Herman Cain Wins Florida GOP Straw Poll

Businessman Herman Cain won the Florida straw poll Saturday, beating Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the GOP presidential frontrunner who just two days earlier delivered a debate performance that was widely panned.

Cain finished with 37 percent of the vote, while Perry trailed with 15 percent. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney followed with 14 percent while former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum drew 11 percent. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul finished with 10.5 percent, while former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman finished with 2 percent.

Last Night’s Debate

23 September 2011, 11:18 am. 8 Comments. Filed under 2012, Opinion, Republican.

Well, I watched, thinking to learn something new about each of the candidates.  Boy, was I disappointed!  Same ol’ same ol’.  Sheesh.  I’ll be perfectly honest, I really hope neither Romney nor Perry ends up as the nominee.  I don’t know about you, but I am pretty much fed up with those two always sniping at each other like bullies on the playground.  This does not speak to me of leadership!  The pettiness is just too dadburn much for any thinking ol’ broad!

Who did impress me?  Well, as much as I hate to admit it, Newt was the winner.  That is one smart cookie, and he doesn’t take any guff from anyone.  I like that.  If I could get past his baggage…..  sigh…  I’d say Herman Cain was second runner up, with Rick Santorum coming in third. As much as I like Michelle Bachmann, she is starting to grate my nerves.  She is an extremely intelligent woman, but why does she have to sound like she’s whining all the time?  sigh….

Now, I know there are going to be a lot of people who disagree with me, but I’m looking at substance, principles, things that are important to me.  Calling each other unelectable ain’t too Kosher IMHO.  I’m thinking that both Romney and Perry will be losing more and more support in the coming months.  I don’t care if the GOP is all gung ho for either one of them.  Look what they foisted on us the last go ’round,  UGH!

The other 3, Johnson, Huntsman, and Paul?  Let’s just say I’d rather see Hillary Clinton as POTUS than any of them.  And believe me, that is saying a great deal, considering I’d rather not see the Clintons anywhere NEAR the White House ever again!

Thanks to Shoebox and SteveEgg at No Runny Eggs for a good time last night.  Watching that kind of torture is always a lot easier when among friends.  :D

More Disaster From ObamaCare

The Latest Obamacare Implosion
The Foundry

Inefficient programs that don’t solve problems and are passed against the will of the American people seem to be the Obama Administration’s forte. Now their high-minded aspirations of a health care revolution are quickly unraveling as fatal glitches in Obamacare become apparent.

Next up for implosion? The Community Living Assistance Services and Supports Act, otherwise known as the “CLASS Act,” which creates a government-run long term care insurance program too costly to sustain. At a time when entitlement programs in America have spun out of control, liberal proponents of Obamacare were pushing a new one that had no hope of staying afloat. Now, they are trying hide the fact that they were wrong as another bungling layer of Obamacare is exposed.

Inner Peace

If you can start the day without caffeine,

If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,

If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,

If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,

If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,

If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,

If you can conquer tension without medical help,

If you can relax without alcohol,

If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

…Then You Are Probably………

Restraint?

22 September 2011, 10:28 am. Comments Off. Filed under Israel, Middle East, Religion of Pieces, UN.

UN chief urges Israel ‘restraint’ over Palestinian bid

UN leader Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday urged Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to act with “restraint” and “wisdom” over the Palestinian bid for full state membership of the United Nations.

Israel has angrily rejected the Palestinian campaign, threatening unspecified diplomatic reprisals. “The secretary general urged the prime minister to act with responsibility, wisdom and restraint towards the Palestinian approach to the United Nations,” said UN spokesman Martin Nesirky.

Why is it always Israel who is urged to ‘show restraint’?  Are they the ones who are continuously lobbing bombs into civilian neighborhoods?  No, don’t think so.  Are the Israelis always throwing rocks at their neighbors in Gaza and the West Bank?  Hmmm…  Nope, don’t believe so.  Is it Israel who has declared to destroy their neighbors?  Ummm…  Nuh uh! Was it Israelis who broke into a home and slaughtered an innocent family?  Definitely not!   As a matter of fact, just the opposite.  Israel has shown EXTREME restraint when dealing with the Palestinians.  A great deal more restraint than any nation on the planet!  So, I would suggest to Mr Ban Ki-moon that he started facing reality, and urge major restraint to the Pallies.  “Urge” them to cease and desist their violence towards the Israelis, and accept the fact, they aren’t going away!

Peace Isn’t Possible When The Other Side Wants To Destroy You

Obama Falling Short on Israel
The Foundry

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is taking his people’s bid for statehood to the United Nations this week with a speech set for Friday, followed by a formal application for membership to the U.N. shortly thereafter. If Palestine succeeds in its unilateral efforts, it would be detrimental to U.S. interests in the region, isolate Israel, and deal a major setback to Israeli–Palestinian peace prospects.

Palestine’s move comes despite intense U.S. diplomatic efforts and words from President Barack Obama warning that “efforts to delegitimize Israel will end in failure.” The President has vowed to veto any such attempt in the U.N. Security Council and, in a speech yesterday to the U.N., he reaffirmed his support for Israel and a peace process that ensures its security. Heritage’s Brett Schaefer, though, writes that the President’s words were marred by a soft-pedaling stance toward Palestine.

President Obama proffered a more robust defense of Israel than has been his want, perhaps driven by a desire to bolster waning support among American Jewish voters. Even so, he still maintained a false moral equivalence between the Palestinians and Israel, stating, “That truth – that each side has legitimate aspirations – is what makes peace so hard. And the deadlock will only be broken when each side learns to stand in each other’s shoes.

Ann on The Death Penalty and Libs

21 September 2011, 5:21 pm. Comments Off. Filed under Opinion.

Mumia’s The Word
by Ann Coulter

For decades, liberals tried persuading Americans to abolish the death penalty, using their usual argument: hysterical sobbing.

Only when the media began lying about innocent people being executed did support for the death penalty begin to waver, falling from 80 percent to about 60 percent in a little more than a decade. (Silver lining: That’s still more Americans than believe in man-made global warming.)

Fifty-nine percent of Americans now believe that an innocent man has been executed in the last five years. There is more credible evidence that space aliens have walked among us than that an innocent person has been executed in this country in the past 60 years, much less the past five years.

But unless members of the public are going to personally review trial transcripts in every death penalty case, they have no way of knowing the truth. The media certainly won’t tell them.
