The Case Against Mitt Romney
by Steve Baldwin
Much has been written about Romney’s chameleon-like worldview but very little has been written about his actual record while Governor of Massachusetts. In a world in which slogans, sound bites and “plans” are the common currency of campaign communications, it would be wise for voters to peel back the curtain of campaign propaganda and look at a candidate’s actual governing record. This is even more necessary when it comes to Romney, given his notoriety over revising his views on just about every major issue. After all, history informs us that a person’s record is a far better indicator of how they will govern than is poll-driven campaign rhetoric.
The reality is that Romney’s record may go down in history as one of the most liberal gubernatorial records compiled by any Governor of either party in modern history. Indeed, the evidence is strong that Romney can be said to be the father of gay marriage, of Cap and Trade, and of government-controlled health care. How can one have played such a key role in the promotion of three of the left’s most important issues and yet become the GOP frontrunner? That’s the million-dollar question we all should be asking ourselves.
The standard narrative regarding Romney’s handling of the Goodridge same-sex marriage decision is that the State Supreme Court forced Romney to implement same sex marriage in Massachusetts. But that’s not what happened. Massachusetts is unique in that its state constitution specifically lists marriage as a policy area reserved to the legislative branch, but the court illegally tried to order the legislature to change the marriage statutes. However, even the liberal dominated legislature resisted the unconstitutional encroachment on its enumerated duties and refused to change the marriage statutes. Amazingly, to this day, the statutes continue to refer only to male/female marriage despite efforts made every legislative session since 2004 to change it.
Contrary to Team Romney’s propaganda, the legislature never acted on this issue, yet Romney repeatedly referred to the court opinion as “law.” And though the court never ordered the governor to do anything, Romney came to their rescue and unilaterally ordered his Town Clerks and Justices of the Peace to marry same sex couples. Homosexual marriage exists in Massachusetts today solely due to Romney’s executive actions. This constitutes one of the most outrageous examples of executive branch activism in modern history.
Honestly, I really wish the media and talking heads would stop calling Mitt Romney the ‘front runner’. The only thing I see him running in front of is the conservative bus that is going to run right over him! If the talking heads would stop shoving him down our throats, this wouldn’t even be an issue! The more people will learn, for themselves, the better informed they would be about ALL the candidates, and there is no way that Romney would be our nominee.
In a national poll on Tuesday, Romney was actually trailing Newt Gingrich by 7 points. Does this sound like he is the ‘front runner’? What Romney is, is a Massachusetts Republican. That is not the same as the “R”s in the rest of the country. The New England area is far from conservative, and for any “R” to win in that state, they HAVE to be liberal. I’m not really sure why they don’t just switch parties, and let those of us who ARE conservative, have our party back.

Like it or not, Newt Gingrich is right. Barack Obama IS ‘The Food Stamp President’. If, as he claims, our economy is SO much better, why are there so many people depending on the government for a hand out? Hmmm…???? Because Obama flat out lies, that’s why! Those who are disputing the statement aren’t looking at the numbers. And as we all know…numbers don’t lie. They can be manipulated, but they don’t lie! And FYI….the color of the recipients skin is totally irrelevant! The fact that AMERICANS have been pushed into poverty by Obama’s policies IS!
Finally, as for the question of race — which has ignited some of the backlash against Gingrich — about 34 percent of beneficiaries are white, 22 percent are black, 17 percent Hispanic, 7 percent Asian or Native American, and 20 percent “race unknown.” (source)
If I can understand how the Capital Gains tax works, you’d think that just about anyone could. Evidently, that is not the case. If people are going to be taxed through the teeth for investing, why bother to invest? No investors, no Wall Street. No Wall Street, no business. No business, no jobs. Get a grip people! Be glad we are free to succeed in this country, and stop demonizing those who do! Sheesh!
Mitt Romney’s Taxes and True Reform
How many times should your money be taxed? One time? Two times? Three times? Four? Sounds like a ridiculous proposition, but that’s the true story of capital gains taxes in America, and it’s one that’s not being told in the continuing debate over Governor Mitt Romney’s taxes.
For more than a week, the media has focused on the subject of just how much Romney pays in taxes. On Tuesday, the governor released his tax returns indicating that he paid about 15 percent in taxes last year. At first blush, that sounds like a low rate, especially considering that Romney is admittedly worth millions. But as with all things in politics, there is more to the story.
As most Americans know, marginal individual income tax rates in America range between 15 and 35 percent. However, Americans making money from investments typically earn dividends. They face a lower rate to reduce the tax barrier to investing and growing businesses. For Americans in the lowest two income brackets, the tax rate on dividends is zero. For all the rest, the dividend tax rate is 15 percent — hence Romney’s rate.
The bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg is being criticized for saying Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini would love the country’s public school system because it teaches all children one set of beliefs.
Bishop Joseph P. McFadden made the remark while advocating for school vouchers during an interview last week with Dennis Owens, an anchor with WHTM-TV (ABC27).
“In totalitarian governments, they would love our system,” McFadden said to during the interview. “This is what Hitler and Mussolini and all those tried to establish a monolith so all the children would be educated in one set of beliefs and one way of doing things.”
McFadden’s words sparked outrage from the area chapter of the Anti-Defamation League and a rebuke from the legislative director of the ACLU of Pennsylvania.
Why would there be ‘outrage’ when someone speaks the truth? Hitler would love our public school system. The statement has nothing to do with the Holocaust, but with a man who believed himself to be some sort of god, and made sure the school kids were taught lies and distortion to promote his agenda. Isn’t that what our public school system does? Only teaches the THEORY of evolution, when intelligent design should be included. It teaches kids that ‘global warming, aka climate change’ is a FACT and all the polar bears are drowning. (My 13 granddaughter told me this, and believe me, we had quite a discussion after that little tidbit.)
Hitler made sure students were taught the Jewish people were inferior, and not to be trusted. The Nazi schools totally distorted German history, to make the war against their own citizens some glorious quest. Aren’t U.S. schools teaching that those who fought and died to create this great country were bad people? So tell me…..where is the untruth in the Bishop’s statement! You can’t, because it happens to be TRUE! The ACLU and the Anti-Defamation League need to get their collective heads out of their collective hinders and see our public school system for what it truly is…..government/union indoctrination! Same as what Hitler and Mussolini pushed.
