Put Up Yer Dukes!
Book Review
Every once in a while, I have to do a book review. I read a LOT. And I do mean a WHOLE LOT! I promised one of the authors I would give him an honest review, good or bad, and that’s exactly what I am going to do! 
The title, in case you can’t read that, is Only Son, written by Shawn D. Goodwin and Pamela Meister.
So, who is Shawn D. Goodwin? None other than Wyatt Earp of Support Your Local Gunfighter fame, who I link to quite often on my Saturday Laundry thingamajig. How about Pamela Meister? Well, she, ladies and gentlemen, is quite the writer as well, known for her work at Big Hollywood, American Spectator, Family Security Matters, and frequently linked by other big name publications.
I’ve always liked a good murder mystery. I read quite a bit of Agatha Christie in my younger years, then it was Ed McBain (aka Evan Hunter), and a few others that peaked my interest. My tastes in books change from time to time, and I tend to move on to other genres for a while, then circle around.
There are some books that will take a while to get into, and others that will grab your attention right from the opening lines. Only Son caught my attention immediately. Now, I’m not going to tell you the book is of the same caliber as an Agatha Christie novel. As best I know, neither author is British, and definitely live in the modern world. After reading through the first few chapters, the name Ed McBain popped into my mind, and never left.
I’m not going to give spoilers or anything. I will say, if you enjoy a good escape novel, with murder at the center, then I think you’d enjoy this one. For first timers, they’re pretty darn good. Of course, I don’t review books for a living, if I did, I’d find a lot of the ‘best sellers’ at the bottom of a heap on the floor. What others find entertaining, and what I find entertaining, are not always the same. I don’t go in for a lot of sex, four lettered words, or sappy bodice rippers. I like a good solid story that actually goes somewhere.
Ok…here comes the honest review. I really liked this book. That is until the last couple of chapters. It was like they were trying to hurry up and finish, and skipped a few vital points. 
grrrrrrr But I won’t tell ya which ones, cuz in all seriousness, this was a good read. I mean, yeah, you can figure out what’s what, but up until that point I kept thinking a minimum of 4 stars, maybe even 4 1/2. It’s an easy read, not too complicated, and it gave me a bit of that ‘theater of the mind’. I could see it being made into a TV movie, IF they do a bit of a rewrite that would translate better to the wee screen.
HOWEVER…. “I guess.”???? Wait……what? You better tell me y’all are working on a follow up! Otherwise, I just might have to take a trip up to Pennsylvania! 
So, what I’m going to do is give y’all……
Yup….3 1/2 ‘golden guns’. Hey…it’s a cop book…. with a murder. Guns seemed appropriate.
NOTE: (which has nothing to do with the content of the book) One thing I would like to ask….who set the price on the paperback version? Criminy! That’s pretty high for a paperback. Actually, even the Kindle version seemed rather high for unknown authors. But, oh well.
I’d also like to know who does the proof reading on the Kindle versions of just about EVERY book. This one didn’t have that many typos…one word was left out, but that was all I came across. BUT…in between chapters, there were up to 6 blank pages. I don’t think anything was left out, because it moved from one chapter to the next rather smoothly, but it was really annoying. I know, it’s not the writer’s fault. This is a common complaint of a LOT of Kindle users.

I’m guessing they have no idea how totally absurd they sound to REAL people? Then again, they probably don’t even care they come across as complete morons and total jackasses. They are ever so much smarter than the rest of us, right? 
Maxine Waters needs to take her corrupt ugly ass on home….leave the big decisions up to the grownups. The children have been in charge long enough.

Of Whom, Or What, Are They Afraid?

You know, for people who profess not to believe in a god, or even in the existence of God, some of these non-religious people sure seem to be frightened of SOMETHING.
Hardly a week goes by that we do not see evidence of their near overwhelming fear.
In America, non-religious are free to, uh, do whatever it is they do instead of worshiping a deity. Apparently, that sort of lifestyle in not, well, very fulfilling. How else to explain their seeming need to interfere with the choice of other Americans to worship the deity of their choice.
Now, I know they use the excuse of being concerned over the lack, in many situations, of separation between church and state. But, in my opinion, that is simply a “cover.”
As I see it, atheists simply USE the so-called constitutional declaration that church and state should never meet, let alone come it contact.
New Pics
Yesterday, Spud was a whole month OLD. I was going to post these last night, but ya know what? I was plum tuckered! I actually got a lot accomplished…well, for me it was a lot. For normal people, it was very little. Heh. Hey…I just had surgery, and I’m old and falling apart. I’m lucky I get ANYTHING done! 
So, since it’s been more than 2 weeks since I posted any pictures of the infamous Spud…..
Looks like he’s got an on/off button. Wonder if it works? *snicker*
I’m finding it more than just a tad annoying that neither my daughter, nor my granddaughter, aren’t sending more pictures. Sheesh. And I KNOW there is a flash video in that house, cuz I bought it! A few action shots would be nice. Of course, with a month old kid, there isn’t a whole lot of action, but still…..
THAT’S A HUGE HINT BRAT! *shakes head* Kids. sigh….
Democrat Wants To Watch Cheney Execution
“Moderate Caucus” chair urges Cheney’s execution
Rep. Chuck Kruger (D-Thomaston), the Democrat chair of the Maine legislature’s Moderate Caucus, used his Twitter account to express his view that former Vice President Dick Cheney should be executed. This comment has led some to question the validity of Kruger’s moderate credentials.
Kruger made the statement through his Twitter account this past summer, saying, “Cheney deserves same final end he gave Saddam. Hope there are cell cams,” a reference to technology that would allow Kruger to watch the proposed execution of the former Vice President of the United States.
It’s quite apparent to me that this ‘man’ has NO business holding ANY elected office. Town dog catcher would be above his mental abilities. I would suggest the people of Maine start a very serious campaign to rid themselves of such an embarrassment. If the person who said such things, perhaps calling for the execution of Clinton, or Gore, or even Obama and Biden, had a ‘R’ behind his name, there would be such an uproar, we would still be hearing it 100 years into the future!
Why wasn’t this brought out when the ‘tweet’ first appeared in last August? He wants to “have fun with this“? He apologized….this morning. Six months later. If it hadn’t come out, do you really believe there would have been an apology? Nope….me neither! Joking about putting the former Vice President in a cell with a closed circuit camera so he could watch him get the ‘same treatment as Saddam Hussein? Not amusing under any circumstances. Obviously, this moron isn’t aware just how evil Hussein really was!
I realize that many people in the New England area believe themselves to be superior to the rest of the country, but guess what! You aren’t, and having such a state representative proves y’all have no class either! Notice I said many…not all. There are some decent folks from that part of the country, and I’m really sorry they have had to put up with people such as Kerry, Kennedy, Snowe, and this asshat, “Freddy” Kruger.
I am offended! I would be offended if he had said it was Biden who should be strung up! I am offended that this type of person is in an elected office. I am offended that he hasn’t turned in his resignation and stepped down from his seat in the Maine legislature. I am offended that such people even exist at all!

North Korea’s Rogue Missile Launch

In defiance of international pressure, North Korea last night launched a long range missile, underscoring the belligerent regime’s continuing threat to U.S. interests and regional stability in Asia.
The launch comes as the rogue nation is continuing its transition to new leadership under dictator Kim Jong-un, who replaced his father Kim Jong-il after his death in December. In addition to the missile test, it has been reported that North Korea may also be in the “final stages” of preparations for another nuclear test, leading to escalating tensions that could spur Jong-un to undertake more provocative military actions.
This is despite promising on February 29 to agree to a ”moratorium on nuclear tests, long-range missile launches, and uranium enrichment activity at Yongbyon and [would] allow the IAEA to monitor the moratorium on uranium enrichment while productive dialogues continue.” The Obama Administration was criticized for accepting this vague statement as a bilateral agreement without insisting on a detailed joint document that clearly laid out both sides’ commitments. Today, we see the result as North Korea is claiming that its test did not violate the terms of the agreement.

Well, except I’m not of Italian descent. Let’s see….if I was a hyphenated American, I would be Irish, Native American (aka Indian) and a wee smidge of French. But that’s way too many hyphens. Come to think of it, one hyphen is too many. So…. I AM AN AMERICAN! Whose skin tone just happens to be….well, kind of beige, actually.
