Yanno… Some time ago I was working at a restaurant, and this kid told me he was Mexican American, so I asked him where he was born, and he said, “South Phoenix.” To which I replied that he was no more a Mexican than I was a German.
I think he wanted to say something more but, he realized I might be tempted to hold his head under water in the sink he was standing at… That boy was chock full of common sense.
I am Kevin vonMoses and I am an American.
^5 If I had to put in hyphens, it would be pretty long! Like most Americans, I’m a mixture of a lot of geographical heritages. Irish-Native American-French, and who knows what else! When I’m asked what I am, if there is an ‘other’, I always, in BIG capitol letters, put AMERICAN. I always try to refer people to John Wayne’s The Hyphen. It’s a shame so many have forgotten just what this country is SUPPOSE to be!
