An Ol' Broad's Ramblings
To say I’m disappoint with a few results, and the actual turnout for our state primary would be an understatement, ESPECIALLY in Hardin County. Ok, so it’s not a real well populated area. Shoot, the whole county has fewer people than most small cities, with only about 26,000 full time residents. The whole state ‘house’ district 71 has less that 60,000 people. So, when I saw THIS….
…at the TN.gov website, I was more than disgusted with the whole kit’n kaboodle! Less than 7,000 people cared enough to actually vote? Out of 60,000? And that’s the WHOLE district? I’m fairly sure there are a lot more people of voting age in the area! Those 5 votes made all the difference. It SHOULD have been a MUCH wider margin. Apathy! Plain and simple!
The turnout for local issues was even more pathetic! A whopping 17 votes (370-353) defeated a raise of the sales tax in the county seat, Savannah, which, by the way, is where most people in the county go to shop, so it affects us all.
This primary also re-enforced the FACT that those with the most money, who can spend freely on a campaign with commercials, etc, will win. Not the most qualified, it’s the money…plain and simple. That, and the FACT that people just don’t give a happy crap, and failed to do their homework on each of the candidates on the ballot! None seem to check out an incumbent’s voting record. If they had, we wouldn’t be stuck with RINO Bob Corker again.
I found some other major disappointments around the state….Diane Black overwhelmingly defeated Lou Ann, and my bud, Charlotte Bergmann will not be the Republican on the ballot for U.S. Congressional district 9. Apparently, the doctor, George Flynn, was pretty much self funded. Yep….it’s the money that gets the votes. Since I know nothing about him, I can’t say whether or not he is qualified. I KNOW Charlotte is.
And, I must add this little tidbit…. WBBJ out of Jackson has the worst election results coverage I’ve ever seen. The ONLY person they reported on was some guy who won a judge’s seat. That’s is. Kept saying “you find all the results on our website”. Seriously? Not even a ticker running across the bottom like MOST stations have…just a report from an overly noisy celebration. I think someone should inform them not everyone who watches their station lives in Jackson.
Yep…. I can honestly say, I am appalled by the apathy shown in this primary! Like I posted yesterday, if you didn’t vote, you don’t get to complain about the results! You have only yourself to blame!
