Before Shooting: Southern Poverty Law Center Put Family Research Council on ‘Hate Map’
The man who shot a security guard at the Family Research Council (FRC) on Wednesday was “given a license” to do so because of groups such as the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) that have labeled the FRC a “hate group,” said FRC President Tony Perkins.
The SPLC has posted what it calls a “Hate Map” on its website that points to the FRC as a “hate” group located in Washington, D.C..
I’ve refrained from commenting on this shooting because I wanted to know more details. I wasn’t going to jump to any conclusions. Who do you think I am? MSNBC? ABC? Brian Ross?
So, now we know, don’t we.
The map and SPLC listing of “hate organizations” equates groups such as the Family Research Council, which promotes the traditional Christian view of marriage and sexuality, with racist groups that violate Christian teaching on human dignity.
They equate a PEACEFUL, pro life, pro family, Christians values organization with such groups as the Nation of Islam and the New Black Panther Party, who actually do hate, and has stated time and again their desire to murder…men, women, children, and BABIES? Does anyone see a bit of ignorance showing it’s ugly face here? Are the people at the REAL hate group all atheists? Because it’s obvious, they have no idea what is actually IN the Bible from which true Christians learn their values.
“And I believe the Southern Poverty Law Center should be held accountable for their reckless use of terminology that is leading to the intimidation and what the FBI here has categorized as an act of domestic terrorism,” he (Tony Perkins) said. “There’s no room for that in a society such as ours that works through differences that we have on issues in public policy through a peaceful means.”
The SPLC has promoted fear and hate. Yes, I believe they are complicit. Because I don’t agree with someone’s stand on something, if I don’t agree with their values, or lack there of, doesn’t mean I am going to label them and promote hatred towards them. Unfortunately, that is exactly what this organization does, on a regular basis. Yes, they do point out some ACTUAL groups that are hateful, and have no place in a civilized society, but, IMHO, they are no better than those who want to murder someone because of their color. They are bottom feeders, and should be held to account!
The suspect, Floyd Corkins, had been volunteering for the last six months at The DC Center for the LGBT Community. The DC Center released a statement condemning the violence, which was signed by 40 other local and national LGBT groups.
“We were saddened to hear news of the shooting this morning at the offices of the Family Research Council,” read the statement. “Our hearts go out to the shooting victim, his family, and his co-workers.”
I applaud the DC Center for speaking out against such actions. It shows class and compassion. Will the SPLC do the same? I’d honestly be surprised if they did. Christians don’t hate gays. The idea that we do is promoted by radical activists, such as the SPLC. Disagreeing with someone’s lifestyle does not equate hate. If that was the case, there there are several people I think quite highly of I would be hating, instead of loving them dearly!
CNSNews.com on Thursday left repeated messages with the Southern Poverty Law Center seeking an interview to discuss the Family Research Council and its designation on the SPLC’s “Hate Map.” The SPLC, however, did not respond before this story was posted.
If they ever do respond, I’ll be extremely surprised. The spokesperson for this disgusting bunch, Mark Potok, who you see on a various pundit shows, is one of the most arrogant, intolerant, hateful, and spiteful people I’ve ever had the displeasure of hearing. If they don’t respond, I would have to say that they agree with such acts of domestic terrorism.
