Death Threats Sent to Pollster
After releasing this morning’s numbers showing McCain ahead in Ohio and Florida, the Strategic Vision polling company received several death threats through the contact e-mail on the company’s web site.
David Johnson, the CEO of Strategic Vision, shared the messages with National Review Online.
One of the messages stated:
My goodness, your polls stinks. There are 3 polls that have Obama by double digits and only yours has Obama down. WOW!. How come your poll is the only one giving Palin high favor ratings? I think you nee dto be careful tonight when you get in your car and might want to check underneath your car. SCRAP YOUR IDIOTIC POLLS OR ELSE!
Another stated:
A poll that gave Sarah Palin and Barack Obama the same favorability rating is wrong off the bat. Be careful going outside tonight because you might not see tomorrow.
A third message stated:
Why would your presidential election poll results be so drastically different from every other reputable poll taken over the same time period? Are they that dumb or are you guys that smart? Smart guys wind up dead.
The company has contacted the FBI and appropriate authorities, Johnson said. There was, thankfully, nothing in the messages that indicated that the sender had actually sought out the location of the company or its employees. Johnson noted that while the messages came from different addresses, they all came within a short period of time, and that it was possible they were from the same person.
Johnson said he’s not fearful, but taking appropriate measures.
“It’s probably just a bunch of nut cases, but this is first time we’ve ever experienced something like this,” Johnson said. “It’s highly, highly unusual. We get messages in the vein of ‘your numbers are wrong, the other guy’s numbers are right’ all the time. But this has never happened before.”

Honestly, I haven’t been watching a lot of news lately, but you’d think news like this would have cropped up somewhere, wouldn’t you?
Testicle-Harvested Stem Cells Prove Versatile
Cells taken from men’s testicles seem as versatile as the stem cells derived from embryos, researchers reported Wednesday in what may be yet another new approach in a burgeoning scientific field.
The new type of stem cells could be useful for growing personalized replacement tissues, according to a study in Thursday’s issue of the journal Nature. But because of their source, their highest promise would apply to only half the world’s population: men.
Embryonic stem cells can give rise to virtually any tissue in the body and scientists believe they may offer treatments for diseases like Parkinson’s and diabetes and for spinal cord injuries.
The testicular cells avoid the ethical dilemma of embryonic stem cells, which are harvested in a process that destroys the embryos. For that reason, some people, including President George W. Bush, oppose their use for ethical or religious reasons.

Favoring One Over The Other
Plant workers: Fairness at stake in prayer dispute
Melissa Infante sat in her car smoking a cigarette, knowing she was supposed to be packaging meat at the JBS Swift & Co. plant where she’s worked for nearly two years. But she’d walked off the job Thursday morning to protest a schedule change she believes unfairly catered to Muslim workers at the plant, shrugging off warnings from supervisors that she could be fired. “To me, it’s just not fair,” Infante said.
Has the plant made similar adjustments for Christian workers? How about Jewish employees? Buddhists maybe?
On Monday, hundreds of Muslim employees were the first to walk off the job, saying they weren’t being allowed to take a break to pray during the holy month of Ramadan. Break times were then altered on the second shift so the Muslim employees, mostly Somali, could make their fourth of five daily prayers at sunset.
Well, then, wouldn’t that open up 300 new jobs for NON Muslims?
Then hundreds of non-Muslim workers walked off the job in counterprotests Wednesday and Thursday morning. Later Thursday, plant managers did an about-face, saying the new break times weren’t working. Company officials have not returned repeated calls from The Associated Press, including a message seeking comment left Thursday.
Every single NON Muslim should have walked out. Not just a few hundred…..EVERY SINGLE ONE! At every single Swift plant in the country!
About 2,500 people work at Swift’s Grand Island plant, not counting managers. That includes about 500 Muslims who mostly work the second shift, employees said.
Infante wasn’t sympathetic to the Muslim employees, saying her husband, who works the second shift, has had to pick up the slack for co-workers who leave the line for prayer.
Does her husband get paid extra for taking up the slack? I seriously doubt it.
Jama Abbi watched through the chain-link fence that ran the length of the plant. He’d walked off the job Monday in solidarity with his fellow Muslim workers, but unlike most of them, Abbi couldn’t bring himself to return.
“This job is already hard as it is,” he said. “It doesn’t need people to make it harder.”
But it’s ok for Abbi to make the job more difficult for those who aren’t asking for special priviledges, right?
Jacinto Guerrero kept in his pocket a list of needs, a scrap of paper containing words scribbled in Spanish. Breaks at normal times, no religious discrimination, same benefits and privileges, it read. Guerrero said he comes to work to do his job and so should everyone else. “You and your religion – it’s between you and God,” he said. “You don’t need to show it to everybody.”
One cave in leads to another, then another, then another. Here something that will let Swift know where the country stands…..their wallet!
Looks like the Mr is going to have to find another brand of beef patties to cook on the grill!

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research bills itself as a nonpartisan, free-market think tank, implying serious public-policy study. But it actually spends most of its time sniping at Democrats to please right-wing funders.
Now, I’ll be honest. I kind of avoid The Nashville Scene because I have found it to be extremely left wing. I want facts. Realities. It doesn’t matter which side of the aisle someone is on, if they can’t be bothered to report objectively, I can’t be bothered to waste my time. Such is the case with this little hit piece.
It’s run by Drew Johnson, a skinny twentysomething who makes an unlikely saboteur. Until a few days ago, when he visited the orthodontist, his smile revealed a mouthful of braces. Wearing the stylish suits he favors (he’s known as GQ Drew on the blogosphere), he could pass for a high school kid on prom night.
Now honestly, I’ve never heard of him referred to as “GQ Drew”. And as for his braces? So what? I wonder how many adults have gotten braces when they can finally afford it? This is relevant….how?

Alaska Gov. Palin to be Named as McCain Running Mate
A senior campaign official in the John McCain campaign confirmed to FOX News on Friday that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee will name Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.
Palin emerged earlier in the day as the hot name in the VP sweepstakes after reports circulated that two short-listers — Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty — were out of the running.
Adding fuel to the Palin candidacy was a report that a charter aircraft from Anchorage owned by a McCain supporter had arrived at a small airport outside Dayton, Ohio, where McCain has scheduled a noon ET rally to announce his choice.
FOX News reports the jet flew to Flagstaff, Ariz., on Thursday before heading for and landing in Middletown, Ohio. The airport manager
McCain campaign staff prepping the Dayton event told FOX News that all indications are that Palin would be the VP choice.
I might be able to get excited about this young lady! She just might give McCain’s campaign the energy it REALLY needs!
What happened to the noon time announcement? Can’t anyone stick with a plan anymore. Jeeeez!

A Brilliant Petition!
Gawfer is a genius! Why? Because of this petition to the Republican National Committee!
After this year’s primary (2008), it became apparent that GOP voters are no longer in control of who represents the party. Discouragement sets in when a candidate who doesn’t do well in a seemingly insignificant state drop out before another state’s primary occurs.
The purpose of this petition is to encourage the RNC to create a one day National Presidential primary that will allow every registered Republican the opportunity to vote for the GOP candidate that best represents their beliefs before the candidate chooses to drop out of the race.
Not only were those of us on the right slapped down, the Democrats didn’t really get to choose their candidate either. Perhaps someone on that side should start a similar petition?
If you believe that the process has been taken away from “WE, the People”, go sign the petition. Let’s send THEM a message! Because if you get right down to it, has become an “us against them”, hasn’t it.
